  • The present research is concerned to study the effect of fractional parameter and rotation on the propagation of Rayleigh waves in an orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic media with three-phase-lags in the context of fractional order theory of generalized thermoelasticity with combined effect of rotation and hall current. The secular equations of Rayleigh waves are derived by using the appropriate boundary conditions. The wave properties such as phase velocity, attenuation coefficient are computed numerically and the numerical simulated results are presented through graphs to show the effect on all the components. Some special cases are also discussed in the present investigation.

  • The present work is considered to study the two-dimensional problem in an orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic media and examined the effect of thermal phase-lags and GN-theories on Rayleigh waves in the light of fractional order theory with combined effect of rotation and hall current. The boundary conditions are used to derive the secular equations of Rayleigh waves. The wave properties such as phase velocity, attenuation coefficient are computed numerically. The numerical simulated results are presented graphically to show the effect of phase-lags and GN-theories on the Rayleigh wave phase velocity, attenuation coefficient, stress components and temperature change. Some particular cases are also discussed in the present investigation.

  • The present research is focused on the study of plane harmonic waves in a two-dimensional orthotropic magneto-thermoelastic media with fractional order theory of generalized thermoelasticity in the light of two-temperature and rotation due to time harmonic sources. Here, we studied three types of waves namely quasi-longitudinal (QL), quasi-transverse (QTS) and quasi thermal (QT) waves. The variations in the wave properties such as phase velocity, attenuation coefficient and specific loss have been noticed with respect to frequency for the reflected waves. Further the value of amplitude ratios, energy ratios and penetration depth are computed numerically with respect to angle of incidence. The numerical simulated results are presented graphically to show the effect of fractional parameter based on its conductivity (0<α<1 for weak, α=1 for normal, 1<α≤2 for strong conductivity) on all the components.

  • For the development of the practical methods of structrual analysis of typical VLFS. Orthortropic plate theory and a grillage beam theory and modeling techniques are studied and relevant numerical analysis are carried out. For the design of pontoon type VLFS, an efficient and reliable structural analysis techniques must be established, and as corresponding methods, two approaches mentioned above were studied in view point of their applicability and efficience. For that purpose, structural idealization is performed to make overall structural analysis first, and the structural behaviors of the model in the airplane landing simulation are evaluated. Through this study it is found that the structural idealization using orthotropic plate and grillage modeling are porved to be adequate and the numerical analysis results for real VLFS yields acceptable deformations in the corresponding simulations.

  • In this paper, the transient response analysis of the trapezoidal corrugated plate subjected to the pulse load is investigated by the theoretical method. Three types of pulse loads are considered: stepped, isosceles triangular and right triangular pulse loads. The corrugated plates can be represented as an orthotropic plate. Both the effective extensional and flexural stiffness of this equivalent orthotropic plate are considered in the analysis. The plate is stiffened by concentric stiffeners perpendicular to the corrugation direction. The stiffening effect is represented by the discrete stiffener theory. This theoretical results are validated by those obtained from 3D finite element analysis based on shell elements. Some numerical results are presented to check the effect of the geometric properties.

  • In this paper a 3-D continuum damage mechanics formulation for composite laminates and its implementation into a finite element model that is based on the layer-wise laminate plate theory are described. In the damage formulation, each composite ply is treated as a homogeneous orthotropic material exhibiting orthotropic damage in the form of distributed microscopic cracks that are normal to the three principal material directions. The progressive damage of different angle ply composite laminates under quasi-static loading that exhibit the free edge effects are investigated. The effects of various numerical modeling parameters on the progressive damage response are investigated. It will be shown that the dominant damage mechanism in the lay-ups of [+30/-30]s and [+45/-45]s is matrix cracking. However, the lay-up of [+15/-15] may be delaminated in the vicinity of the edges and at $+{\theta}/-{\theta}$ layers interfaces.

  • A new continuum damage theory (CDT) has been proposed by Lee et al. (1996) based on the SEEP. The CDT has the apparent advantage over the other related theories because the complete constitutive law can be readily derived by simply replacing the virgin elastic stiffness with the effective orthotropic elastic stiffness obtained by using the proposed continuum damage theory. In this paper, the CDT is evaluated by the numerical experiment comparing the mode shapes and natural frequencies of a square plate containing a small line-through crack with those of the same plate with a damaged site replaced with the effective orthotropic elastic stiffness computed by using the CDT.

  • Advanced composite structures are too difficult for such design engineers for construction and some simple but accurate enough methods are necessary. The simply supported laminated plates are analyzed by the specially orthotropic laminates theory. This method, however, may be too difficult for some practising engineers. In this paper, the result of analysis for such plate by means of the beam theory with unit width is reported. The plate aspect ratio considered is from 1 : 1 to 1 : 5. Most of the bridge and building slabs on girders have large aspect ratios. For such cases further simplification is possible by neglecting the effect of the longitudinal moment terms($M_x$) on the relevant partial differential equations of equilibrium. In this paper. the influence of the aspect ratio on the natural frequency of the specially orthotropic laminated plates is studied and it is concluded that the method used is sufficiently accurate for engineering purposes. The result of this paper can be used for simply supported laminated plates analysis.

  • In the present work, the buckling analysis of micro sandwich plate with an isotropic/orthotropic cores and piezoelectric/polymeric nanocomposite face sheets is studied. In this research, two cases for core of micro sandwich plate is considered that involve five isotropic Devineycell materials (H30, H45, H60, H100 and H200) and an orthotropic material also two cases for facesheets of micro sandwich plate is illustrated that include piezoelectric layers reinforced by carbon and boron-nitride nanotubes and polymeric matrix reinforced by carbon nanotubes under temperature-dependent and hydro material properties on the elastic foundations. The first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) is adopted to model micro sandwich plate and to apply size dependent effects from modified strain gradient theory. The governing equations are derived using the minimum total potential energy principle and then solved by analytical method. Also, the effects of different parameters such as size dependent, side ratio, volume fraction, various material properties for cores and facesheets and temperature and humidity changes on the dimensionless critical buckling load are investigated. It is shown from the results that the dimensionless critical buckling load for boron nitride nanotube is lower than that of for carbon nanotube. It is illustrated that the dimensionless critical buckling load for Devineycell H200 is highest and lowest for H30. Also, the obtained results for micro sandwich plate with piezoelectric facesheets reinforced by carbon nanotubes (case b) is higher than other states (cases a and c).The results of this research can be used in aircraft, automotive, shipbuilding industries and biomedicine.

  • The buckling of stiffened plates is considered using a finite element method. In this paper stiffened plates are treated as orthotropic plates and by appling Mindlin's plate theory the effects of shear deformation to buckling loads are considered. In general, it is found that for moderately thick plates Mindlin's plate theory gives lower buckling load than those obtained using classical thin plate theory.
