  • The separation of rare earths minerals is very difficult because of their similar chemical properties. The rare earth minerals are used as the mixed rare earth minerals or the misch metal without separation to each element. However, the high purity rare earths are recently produced commercially to each element so they there are used as the materials for high tech. Based on the characterization results for the raw minerals, we have developed a combined process containing gravity seperation, magnetic seperation and flotation. The result obtained from this study is monazite concentration of TREO grade 69.11% and Recovery 56.02%.

  • This review describes the involvement of different microorganisms for the recovery of uranium from the ore. Mainly Acidithiobacillus forrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Leptospirillum ferrooxidans are found to be the most widely used bacteria in the bioleaching process of uranium. The bioleaching of uranium generally follows indirect mechanism in which bacteria provide the ferric iron required to oxidize $U^{4+}$. Commercial applications of bioleaching have been incorporated for extracting valuable metals, due to its favorable process economics and reduced environmental problems compared to conventional metal recovery processes such as smelting. At present the uranium is recovered through main bioleaching techniques employed by heap, dump and in situ leaching. Process development has included recognition of the importance of aeration of bioheaps, and improvements in stirred tank reactor design and operation. Concurrently, knowledge of the key microorganisms involved in these processes has advanced, aided by advances in molecular biology to characterize microbial populations.

  • Froth flotation has been carried out in order to produce roasting-molybdenite concentrate from molybdenite ore in the Shin-yeomi mine. In our study, roasting-molybdenite (Mo 0.43%) from Shin-yeomi mine was recovered by varying the conditions of regrinding time, dosage of collector and alkalinity. Liberation and flotation efficiency more were effective at regrinding time of six minutes than at single grinding. Mo recovery curves increased considerably as dosage of kerosene increased, whereas Mo grade curves decreased gradually. The separation efficiency of molybdenite was effective when the dosage of collector (kerosene) was adjusted to 300 g/t. The molybdenite concentrate was agglomerated in the range of pH 5-7 and its separation efficiency increased to pH 9-10. The concentrate of 49.5% Mo grade ($MoS_2$, 82.6%) with 81.5% recovery from Shin-yeomi molybdenite ores was obtained under conditions of 20% pulp concentration, 300 g/t kerosene 325 g/t frother (AF65), 2.5 kg/t depressant ($Na_2SiO_3$), pH 9-10 and four cleaning times. In the future, a trial run that can separate up to 50% Mo grade from Shin-yeomi molybdenite ores will be performed.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the effects of oropharyngeal sensory stimulation on a functional oral intake scale, ore-pharyngeal swallowing functions, and aspiration pneumonia symptoms with nasogastric tube insertion in stroke patients. Method: This study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. The subjects or the study were 32 patients who were hospitalized in Kosin Gaspel hospital. The experimental subjects were stimulated for $10{\sim}20$ minutes, 1 time per day. The intervention was implemented for 2 weeks. Result: Participants in the experimental group significantly received a higher score in ore-pharyngeal swallowing function than those in the control group. However the participants in the experimental group only got a high score in the function oralintake scale which doesn't imply a statistical significance. In addition, they didn't geta remarkably higher score in aspiration pneumonia symptoms than those in the control group. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that oropharyngeal sensory stimulation is effective in promoting recovery oro-pharyngeal swallowing function of nasogastric tube insertions in stroke patients.

  • The Kuroko-type seafloor massive sulfide deposits found in the western Pacific have been considered to have potentials for economic recovery of Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, and Pb. In this study, a preliminary model was developed for the technical and economic evaluation of them. The FRSC site on Lau Basin in the Tonga EEZ was selected as a target. In this study, no construction In for the metallurgical processing subsystem was accounted for. Instead, it was assumed to sell the Cu, Zn, and Pb concentrates to the existing sulfide customer smelter. The low total investment costs for the development make the venture very attractive. However, the result of the economic feasibility evaluation is still less attractive with the mean metal yield of the Kuroko on land. It is considered that commercial mining may be plausible if the richer metal yields are applied to the development. Quantitative information for metal yield is necessary for a more accurate evaluation. However, the important resource potential information regarding the amount of ore body, the inside structure, and the metal yields have not yet been clarified sufficiently. h addition, the flotation of ore body using seawater has not been tested yet. It is necessary to solve these problems through the experimental R&D and a survey.

  • Most of limestone mines in Korea have been developed by a open-cut mining method in consideration of a deposited condition of ore, ore recovery, safety, economic efficiency, etc.. But it has produced environmental problems such as dust flying, blasting noise & vibration, and spoil of farmlands due to slope failure of waste rock mass caused by access road construction, fragmentation & crush of rocks, blasting, transportation, and mineral processing. In this study, it has been suggested for measures to reduce mine hazards caused by open- cut mining of limestone nines.

  • In this present work, the froth flotation of lithium ore from Boam mine located in Wooljin, Kyungbuk has been carried out to produce high-grade lithium concentrate. The sample ore-Lepidolite mainly contained silicate mineral (quartz, muscovite) and calcite. In consequences of the experiment, it has been possible to obtain relatively high-grade lithium while using anionic acid (oleic acid) to remove calcite before the froth flotation for lithium concentrate. Among the amines collectors (Armac-T, Armac-C, Armafloat-18, Armafloat-1597), Armac-T has been relatively effective than another ones. Under the optimum condition (collector : Armac-T 100g/t, frother : AF65 50g/t, depressants : $Na_2SiO_3$ 600g/t and Lactic acid 100g/t, pulp density : 20%, pH 5.5, number of cleaning : 2), it has been obtained relatively high-grade lithium concentrate ($Li_2O$) with recovery of 80.3% and with grade of 4.33%.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of mechanical factors such as agitation speed and air rate in fly ash flotation. Specifically, we used thermal power plant fly ash with unburned carbon content of 3.4 to 3.7%. The effect of pH, agitation speed, collector dosage, and frother dosage - the key factors of froth flotation - showed unburned carbon recovery and unburned carbon content of 63% and 34%, respectively, when the dosage of safflower oil used as collector was 800 g/ton, pH was 7, agitation speed was 1,200 rpm, and frother dosage was 400 g/ton. The SEM/EDS analysis of fly ash in that case indicated that the spherical fly ash particles lowered the unburned carbon content as they floated with the air bubbles without being dissolved in the unburned carbon or settled in the ore solution. The other experiment of changing the mechanical factors such as agitation speed and air rate resulted in unburned carbon recovery and unburned carbon content of 74% and 67%, respectively, at air rate of 8 L/min and agitation speed of 900 rpm. The recovery and unburned carbon content increased as the low agitation speed and additional air injection decreased the strength of the eddy current in the ore solution and consequently prevented the floating of fine fly ash particles with unburned carbon. In addition, the recovery rate and unburned carbon increased further to 80% and 70%, respectively, showing the best performance when the agitation speed and air rate were lowered to 800 rpm and 6 L/min, respectively.

  • As the competition of acquiring foreign resources of advanced countries and developing countries intensifies, South Korea which imports most of the mineral resources, started to re-develop domestic mines for molybdenite ore, in order to secure stable natural resources and decrease foreign currency expense. In this study, as a result of performing XRD and composite analysis on Dongwon NMC's (the sole producer of molybdenite ore in Korea) final concentrate(Mo 50.4%), Quartz, Grossular and Hedenbergite exists as impurities and size analysis showed that in relative coarse particle range of 60~140 mesh was formed with high grade over 57% Mo. Also, a test was performed to confirm the possibilities of increasing the grade and recovery of Dong won NMC's final ore. As a result, Mo 58.6% ($MoS_2$ 97.83%) was obtained with 87.47% recovery at a condition of 15 minutes grinding time, Kerosene as collector 0.1 l/ton, AF as Frother 65 7.2 l/ton, wash water of 630 ml/min and air flow rate of 1,197 ml/min.
