250 winning products from 1985 to 1997 in the Korean market were examined in order to find that what kind of product attributes have been major determinants of commercial success in the market. The major determinants are different with product categories. For example, function has been the most important determinant in electric home appliances, while portability has been the most important in telecommunication products. The results will be a cue to the future direction of new product development.

The objective of this paper is to present an efficient and practical approach to the automatic classification of power quality(PQ) disturbances, where and orthogonal polynomial approximation method is emloyed for the detection and localization of PQ disturbances, and a feature vector, newly extracted form the bispectra of the detected signal, is utilized for the automatic rectgnition of the various types of PQ disturbances. To demonstrae the performance and applicabiliyt of the proposed approach, some simulation results are provided.

Statistical Process Control (SPC) is recognized as one of the most important tool of quality control (QC), and is one research focus in order to implement SPC quickly and effectively using computer technology and network environments. This paper proposes the principle and topology of embedded SPC based on the Internet/lntranet, emphatically discusses the embedded data sampling block, embedded network interface and SPC strategy. An example of application is given.

This article tries to develop an instrument for assessing the quality of housing environment by using 67 housing environment variables. The method of factor analysis is used to explore the dimension of the quality of housing. As the result, 5 dimensions of housing environment are extracted. They are, according to the order of their importances, house structure and indoor environment, outdoor facilities and natural environment, indoor facilities and economy, public facilities and social relationship, and convenient facilities and residential feasibility.

We proposed eight dimensions and their constituents of product advantage in the last issue. In this study, using the dimensions and constituents, gap analyses are conducted on some product categories(; desktop computer, PCS terminal, and washing machine) in order to know what dimensions or constituents are major areas to be improved. For the purpose of strategic use of the dimensions of product advantage, Kano analyses are also applied. Based on the results of the gap analyses and Kano analyses, the future directions of new products development for the selected products are suggested.

Even though advocates of TQM emphasize the role of TQM more than before, the interest of the public at large have decreased in recent years. In order to explain the perceptual gap between the advocates and general public, three questions were considered: 1) Is TQM a dying fad\ulcorner 2) Does TQM focus on a particular facet of management\ulcorner 3) Does TQM pursue incremental improvement, while reengineering pursue breakthrough innovation\ulcorner It is also discussed how can we extend the horizon of TQM so as to integrate new management theories into the framework of TQM.

In order to find out the customer requirements and to develop new products more effectively, the Kano model and QFD(Quality Function Deployment), AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) developed and applied. But, Many companies difficult to select the CTQ(Critical to Quality) of new product. Especially the life cycle of cell phone is very short. In this thesis, the Kano model and AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) for finding the CTQ(Critical to Quality) for customer satisfaction are suggested. It is explained and discussed with the example of cell phone.

In order to improve the quality of Takju, the effect of combined use of Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus kawachii in brewing was investigated. The quality of Takju which was brewed by the combined use of Aspergillus oryzae CF7-koji and Aspergillus kawachii CF1-koji in equal amount was better as cmapared with that brewed by existing method using Aspergillus kawachii-koji only as koji. But the good result did not obtained when the koji was made by mixed culture of Aspergillus oryzae CF7 and Aspergillus kawachii CF1.

In order to know the situation of statistical Quality Control in Korea, we have surveyedabout 4, 500 manufacturing companies in Korea. Among the first 4, 500 manufacturing companies, 2, 586 companies have answered for the questionairs of the sample survey. In this research a statistical analysis is conducted for the 2, 586 companies and diagnosis of the situation of Statistical Quality Control is Korea in presented in terms of levels of development and degrees of implementation.
