Determining the motion using optimal technique about traveling time and trajectory planning has been studied often in recent years, but the study of determining the optimal robot dimensions is rare, the authors attempt to find out the least driving torques and energy as the optimization of link length ratio referred to 2R SCARA and 3R robot manipulators. For the given linear path with triangular velocity profile, the inverse kinematic and dynamic problems are examined in order to lead into solution of problem, which is suggested for optimal design of link lengths. Accordingly, optimal link length ratio is obtained with respect to each case.
Waypoint guidance is a technique used to steer an autonomous vehicle along a desired trajectory. In this paper, a waypoint guidance algorithm for horizontal plane is derived by combining a line following guidance law and a turning guidance law. The line following guidance is derived based on LQR while the turning guidance is designed using rendzvous problem. Through simulation, the proposed method shows a good performance.
In this paper, we present a remote control strategy for vehicles moving in an intelligent Vehicle Highway System(IVHS). We study a method for optimal off-line scheduling of a limited communication channel that is used for lead vehicle control in a platoon. The deviated distance from the desired trajectory is used for defining a cost functional that measures the performance of the system with communication constraints in relation to the desired system without communication constraints. The optimal communication sequence is obtained by simulations.
In this paper, we propose an optimal method for the tracking a trajectory of the end-effector of flexible robot arms with multiple joints. The proposed method finds joint trajectories and joint torques necessary to produce the desired end-effector motion of flexible manipulator. In inverse kinematics, optimized joint trajectories are computed from elastic equations. In inverse dynamics, joint torques are obtained from the joint equations by using the optimized joint trajectories. The equations of motion using finite element method and virtual work principle are employed. Optimal control is applied to optimize joint trajectories which are computed in inverse kinematics. The simulation of flexible planner manipulator is presented.
This paper is concerned with the control problem $$ \dot{x}(t) = F(x) + u(t)G(x), t \in [0,T], x(0) = 0, $$ where F and G are smooth vector fields on $R^n$, and the admissible controls u satisfy the constraint $$\mid$u(t)$\mid$ \leq 1$. We provide the sufficient condition that the bang-bang trajectories having different switching orders intersect.

As a part of trajectory modulation to increase system survivability and terminal effectiveness, impact angle control is required in the terminal phase of tactical missile systems. The missile systems are not allowed to have high altitude to reduce probability of detection by sensors of missile defense systems. In this paper, an analytic form of a time-optimal control law is suggested in the case of constrained missile maneuverability and impact angle under the assumption of a zero-lag autopilot. The control law is obtained by establishing optimal missile-target engagement geometry in the vertical plane. Extension of the law for missiles with autopilot response lags requiring a numerical solution is studied by introducing an iterative algorithm for optimal switching time determination of which the initial switching instants are obtained from the analytic solution. Also suggested is a closed-form impact angle control law derived by an energy-optimal approach. The performances of the proposed guidance laws are evaluated by a series of computer runs.
This paper proposes a design of the tracking controller using artificial neural network and the compare the result with a result of optimal controller. In practical use, conventional Optimal controller has some limits. First, optimal controller can be designed only for linear system. Second, for many systems state observation is difficult or sometimes impossible. But the controller using artificial neural network does not need mathmatical model of the system including state observation, so it can be used for both linear and nonlinear system with no additional cost for nonlinearity. Designed multi layer neural network controller is composed of two parts, feedforward controller gives a steady state input & feedback controller gives transient input via minimizing the quadratic cost function. From the comparison of the results of the simulation of linear & nonlinear plant, the plant controlled by using neural network controller shows the trajectory similar to that of the plant controlled by an optimal controller.
The usual procedure for the optimal design of ship's steering system is to minimize a chosen quadratic performance index, which isdetermined from the view point of economic run. However, the optimal control synthesized in such a straightforward fashion is unsatisfactory because ship's parameters differ from their nominal values due to uncertainties and errors in measurement and/or simplifications in mathematical modelling, and/or the variation of the ship's loading condition. In an attempt to resolve this difficulty, this paper presents a method for designing a low sensitive optimal steering system in a way as to minimize not only given performance index but also the sensitivity of the performance index and trajectory sensitivity. It is also shown that the optimal control so obtained will result in a system whose performance index and transient response are low sensitive to small varation in ship's time constant.
This paper presents a novel on-line trajectory optimization framework based on automatic time warping, which performs the time warping of a reference motion while optimizing character motion control. Unlike existing physics-based character animation methods where sampling times for a reference motion are uniform or fixed during optimization in general, our method considers the change of sampling times on top of the dynamics of character motion in the same optimization, which allows the character to effectively respond to external pushes with optimal time warping. In order to do so, we formulate an optimal control problem which takes into account both the full-body dynamics and the change of sampling time for a reference motion, and present a model predictive control framework that produces an optimal control policy for character motion and sampling time by repeatedly solving the problem for a fixed-span time window while shifting it along the time axis. Our experimental results show the robustness of our framework to external perturbations and the effectiveness on rhythmic motion synthesis in accordance with a given piece of background music.
The generalized linear impulsive correction problem is applied to make a linear programming problem for optimizing trajectory of an orbiting spacecraft. Numerical application for the stationkeeping maneuver problem of geostationary satellite shows that this problem can efficiently find the optimal solution of the stationkeeping parameters, such as velocity changes, and the points of impulse by using the revised simplex method.
