Transverse Vibration Control of an Axially Moving String by Velocity Boundary Control (속도경계제어를 이용한 축방향 주행 현의 횡진동 제어)

  • In this study, the time varying boundary control using the right boundary transverse motion is suggested to stabilize the transverse vibration of an axially moving string on the basis of the energy flux between the moving string and the boundaries. The effectiveness of the active velocity boundary control is showed through the FDM simulation results. Sliding mode control is adopted in order to achieve velocity tracking control of the time varying right boundary to dissipate vibration energy of the string effectively. Optical sensor system for measuring the transverse vibration of an axially moving string is developed, and the angle of the incident wave to the right boundary, which is the input of the velocity boundary controller, is obtained. Experimental research is carried out to examine the validity and the performance of the transverse vibration control using the suggested velocity right boundary control scheme.

  • In switched reluctance motor(SRM) drive, it is necessary to synchronize the stator phase excitation with the rotor position. Therefore the rotor position information is an essential. Usually optical encoders or resolvers are used to provide the rotor position information. These sensors are expensive and are not suitable for high speed operation. In general, the accuracy of the switching angle is dependent upon the resolution of the encoder and the sampling period of the microprocessor. But the region of high speed, switching angles are fluctuated back and forth from the preset values, which are cause by the sampling period of the microprocessor. Therefore, the low cost linear encoder suitable for the practical and stable SRM drive is proposed and the control algorithm to provide the switching signals using the simple digital logic circuit is also presented in this paper. It is verified from the experiments that the proposed encoder and logic controller can be a powerful candidate for the practical low cost SRM drive.

  • Although conventional analog linescan cameras are used widely, high-speed, high-resolution Cameralink standard will lead the area of frame grabber industry such as factory automation. In this paper, we are developing embedded frame grabber testbed without PC which will give an another solution to image processing applications. Therefore, we designed hardware schematics and programmed FPGA device with VHDL in order to interface Cameralink standard linescan CCD camera. In the future, our embedded on-chip controller could be applied to various image processing systems such as medical imaging, especially optical coherence tomography, machine vision and industrial electronics.

  • The position of the rotor in a spherical motor is usually measured by encoders. When using a encoder, It is possible to measure the angle in a very high resolution. However it is limited to measure a single-DOF using one encoder. So it is required to use 3 encoders to measure a 3-DOF. In order to connect the encoder and the motor, an additional mechanic linkages. Because of these reasons, it is difficult to apply it in various systems. Where the friction and inertia is increased when operating the motor. It could cause a negative effect in dynamic characteristic. In this paper present dual-image sensing system capable of measuring 3-DOF motions in real time eliminating the mechanical linkages. In addition we offer methods of converting sensors outputs to rotation angle which is used in the controller.

In this paper, a low cost linear encoder suitable far the practical and stable SRM drive is proposed and also the control algorithm to generate the switching signals using a simple digital logic is presented. The validity of the proposed linear encoder with a proper logic controller is verified through the experiments.

  • LED-based lighting motivated by significant energy savings provides an opportunistic development of widespread free-space optical communications. Their transceivers have a variety of competitive advantages over RF including high bandwidth density, reliability, lower energy consumption, and long lifetime. But, it is difficult for existing buildings and structures such as ships and vehicles to install the communication cable to the ceiling. In this paper, controller area network (CAN)-based LED lighting communication systems were proposed. Results indicate the viability of developing inexpensive CAN interface modules and transceivers might be embedded in lighting products to support the indoor wireless networking.

  • In this study, we have developed a new UV$({\lambda}=355nm)$ laser micromachining technology by direct ablation method without masks. This technology allows that 3D micro parts can be fabricated rapidly and efficiently with a low price. And it has a benefit of reducing fabricating process simply. Due to micro parts' fabrication, such technologies need the control of XYZ stages with high precision, the design of optical devices to maintain micron spot sizes of laser beam and the control technology of laser focus. The developed laser manufacturing process for laser micromachining is that, after extracting coordinates of shape data from CAD model data, a beam path considering manufacturing features of laser beam is created by using genetic algorithm. This generated manufacturing process is sent to stage controller. In order to improve the surface quality of micro parts, we have carried out experiments on iteration manufacturing and beam step-over by using a minimum focus size. Moreover, we have fabricated a micro-channel through the developed laser micromachining technology and verified it through the results.

A High Performance Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Servo System Using Predictive Functional Control and Kalman Filter

  • A predictive functional control (PFC) scheme for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo systems is proposed in this paper. The PFC-based method is first introduced in the control design of speed loop. Since the accuracy of the PFC model is influenced by external disturbances and speed detection quantization errors of the low distinguishability optical encoder in servo systems, it is noted that the standard PFC method does not achieve satisfactory results in the presence of strong disturbances. This paper adopted the Kalman filter to observe the load torque, the rotor position and the rotor angular velocity under the condition of a limited precision encoder. The observations are then fed back into PFC model to rebuild it when considering the influence of perturbation. Therefore, an improved PFC method, called the PFC+Kalman filter method, is presented, and a high performance PMSM servo system was achieved. The validity of the proposed controller was tested via experiments. Excellent results were obtained with respect to the speed trajectory tracking, stability, and disturbance rejection.

  • Aviation obstacle lights including controller for the safe night aviation service have applied to high voltage transmission line of which height is from $60{\sim}180 m$, Fresnel lens made by Augustine Fresnel have been applied to light houses, These Fresnel lens were applied to aviation obstacle lights and have been universally used, It was reported that Fresnel lens for aviation obstacle light was used in the first place in Korea in 1987, LEDs have recently been applied to aviation obstacle lights, So, the optimum physical design is essential to the design of aviation obstacle light. In this study, optical and three dimensional modeling of LED module and globe lens were performed, And thermal analysis due to LED thermal source and service thermal condition in high voltage transmission line was performed and was analyzed comparing with experiments, The optimum design process of medium intensity LED aviation obstacle lights was constructed with three dimensional modeling, thermal analysis, and thermal experimental technique.

Real-time SMA control for wire frame-based 3D shape display (와이어프레임 기반의 3차원 형상제시기의 실시간 SMA 제어)

  • We developed wire frame drive unit based on SMA for the 3D Shape display. Our basic concept is wire frame combination connected with a chain form which can create various shapes and it compared with pin array mechanism which is not able to display mushroom shape. It imitates antagonist mechanism of human musculoskeletal system. we create similar motion using repair-relaxation mechanism and locking mechanism by SMA. Therefore, in this paper, we propose SMA control solution for actuating repair-relaxation mechanism and locking mechanism. In our control system. we use optical sensor and quantitative angle between wire frames for closed loop control. And we supply amplified current for SMA by circuit composed of transistor and apply PWM signal to circuit for efficient control. So, wire frame drive unit enable diversity angle control based on sensor data. And then combination of wire frame drive units will create various objects.
