Implementation of 4-Wavelength Optical Transceiver with Excellent Transfer/Isolation Characteristics (높은 채널 분리 특성을 가지는 1550nm 대역 4 파장 광모듈 및 광중계기 제작)

  • A 4-wavelength optical transceiver system is designed and implemented by using 4 OADMs (optical add-drop multiplexers), WDMs, and optical transceivers. In this new system, the wavelengths of 1510 nm and 1530 nm are used for upload and download signals, respectively, as well as the wavelengths of 1550 nm and 1310 nm which have been utilized in a 2-wavelength optical transceiver systems. The 4-wavelength optical module shows very encouraging pass characteristics of about - 5 dB and isolation characteristics of less than -40 dB, which is configured with two OADMs, 4 couplers, and WDM couplers by fusion splicing. Noise figure (NF) of the one-stage balanced amplifier designed and fabricated for receiver module is 0.38 dB and the amplifying gain is 14.2 dB. S$_{11}$, S$_{22}$ and input, output VSWR are -28.81 dB, -32.08 dB, 1.05 : 1, 1.08 : 1, respectively.y.

  • In this paper, in order to analyze property of frequency response in optical microphone, system was implemented. The capacitance microphone and fiber-optic transmission path type fiber-optic microphone (FOM) have weaknesses in directivity, size, weight, and price. However suggested optical microphone can be constituted by cheap devices, so it has many benefits like small size, light weight, high directivity, etc. Head part of optical microphone which is suggested in this paper is movable back and forth by sound pressure with the attached reflection plate. Operating point is determined by measuring the respond characteristics and choosing the point on which has maximum linearity and sensitivity while changing the distance between optical head and vibrating plate. We measured the output of the O/E transformed signal of the optical microphone while frequency of sound signal is changed using sound measurement/analysis program, Smaart Live and USBPre, which are based on PC, and compared the result from an existing capacitance microphone. The measured Optical microphone showed almost similar output characteristics as those of the compared condenser microphone, and its bandwidth performance was about 300[Hz]-3[kHz] at up to 3 [dB].

  • In this paper, we proposed E-plane structures to obtain the high insertion loss at stopband and show that T-equivalent and K-inverter of Triple E-plane structures are better than those of All-Metal Insert E-plane structures. To show the characteristics first order bandpass filter are designed and tested at X band.

  • A new CAD program for double E-plane bandpass filters is developed based on the variational analysis method and the passband correction method combined with the synthesis procedures. By taking the widths of three narrow waveguide equally, we can design bandpass filters with best stopband characteristics.

A new surface film with an inner light scattering layer was newly developed to improve gray scale inversion.   • The characteristics of optical waeguides and IDT electrodes fabricated for acousto-optic tunable filters (AOTE) used for optical communications were analyzed. A $Ti:LiNbO_3$ in-diffusion method was employed for the formation of the optical waveguide with a dimension of width $8\mu\textrm{m}$, length $30000\mu\textrm{m}$, and thickness $1150{\AA}$. The diffusion was carried at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 8 houss to pattern the optical waveguide with Ti. The resulted waveguide exhibited a single mode at a 1550nm wavelength range and its propagation loss was less than 0.5dB/cm. The width of IDT, with 10 SAW periods, was $5000\mu\textrm{m}$, S11 reflection characteristics and impedances of th eelectrodes deposited with Au were analyzed using a network analyzer; $48.1\Omega$ at th ecenter frquency of 193MHz for Au deposition thickness of $1500{\AA}$ and $50.7\Omega$ at the center frequency of 192MHz for au deposition thickness of $1600{\AA}$.

  • The recent issue of optical pickup actuators is to apply optical storage devices to mobile devices such as a cellular phone and PDA. It requires actuators to become smaller than conventional types. As the size becomes smaller, the magnetic force is reduced and the assembly of optical pickup actuators becomes more difficult. In addition, its dynamic characteristics are changed. In this paper, methods to improve magnetic forces and dynamic characteristics are suggested and the optimal result of the plate spring design is obtained. A diamond shape magnet and the fine pattern coil (FPC) are used to improve magnetic forces and damping elements are attached to decrease the peak magnitude of the mode instead of using structural damping, mostly for the purpose of improving the accuracy of the finite element simulation. To get more stable dynamic characteristics than conventional ones, a plate spring is applied to the optical pickup actuator and it is optimized with topology and parameter optimization to obtain the concept and the detail design, respectively.
