  • This paper addresses a new blind channel equalization method using fourth-order cumulants of channel inputs and a three-layer neural network equalizer. The proposed algorithm is robust with respect to the existence of heavy Gaussian noise in a channel and does not require the minimum-phase characteristic of the channel. The transmitted signals at the receiver are over-sampled to ensure the channel described by a full-column rank matrix. It changes a single-input/single-output (SISO) finite-impulse response (FIR) channel to a single-input/multi-output (SIMO) channel. Based on the properties of the fourth-order cumulants of the over-sampled channel inputs, the iterative algorithm is derived to estimate the deconvolution matrix which makes the overall transfer matrix transparent, i.e., it can be reduced to the identity matrix by simple recordering and scaling. By using this estimated deconvolution matrix, which is the inverse of the over-sampled unknown channel, a three-layer neural network equalizer is implemented at the receiver. In simulation studies, the stochastic version of the proposed algorithm is tested with three-ray multi-path channels for on-line operation, and its performance is compared with a method based on conventional second-order statistics. Relatively good results, withe fast convergence speed, are achieved, even when the transmitted symbols are significantly corrupted with Gaussian noise.

  • High performance $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ heterostructure metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) were fabricated using well-controlled delta-doping of boron and $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$/Si heterostructure epitaxal layers grown by reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition. In this paper, we report 1/f noise characteristics of the SiGe pMOSFETs measured under various bias conditions of the gate and drain voltages changing in linear operation regions. From the noise spectral density, we found that the gate and drain voltage dependence of the noise represented same features, as usually scaled with $f^{-1}$ However, 1/f noise was found to be much lower in the device with boron delta-doped layer, by a factor of $10^{-1}_10^{-2}$ in comparison with the device fabricated without delta-doped layer. 1/f noise property of delta-doped device looks important because the device may replace bipolar transistors most commonly embedded in high-frequency oscillator circuits.

  • Dry oxidation and wet oxidation processes of silicon have been examined experimentally. The oxidation temperatures were 1.10$0^{\circ}C$, 1.15$0^{\circ}C$, and 1.200 $^{\circ}C$, and oxygen flow rate was changed from 0.2 liter/min to 2.8 liter/min. From the experimental measurements, oxidation temperaturel time and oxygen flow rate have been tabutated for oxide layers 0.1$\mu$ - 1.0$\mu$ in thickness. The quality of the grown oxide layer has been investigated In terms of the dielectric constant, breakdown voltage, fixed surface charge densify (Qss/q) and mobile charge density (Q /q). From these measurements, it is concluded that the quality of the oxide layer is sufficient to expect the normal operation of MOS transistors.

  • A sublimation model of the freeze drying process, which accounted for the removal of free water, was presented and used to study the operation conditions of freeze driers for carrot juice. It was found that the shortest drying time was obtained when the condenser temperature and chamber pressure were kept at heir lowest values and the plate temperature was controlled independently so that the scorch and melting constraints were both held throughout the drying period. The effect of sample thickness on the drying time was significant. Optimal policies were investigated experimentally in laboratory freeze dryer.

  • The usage of constant velocity (CV) joint is effective for motorboats on gliding regime of the motion. During transition on the gliding when angle of the CV differs from null on driving and driven composite shafts there are moments of the second order. Excitation of oscillations of the second order moments occurs when driving shafts transmits a variable torque. which generates through CV joint a lateral moment acting on the bearing. As a result of oscillations from a resonating harmonic of a shafting the harmonic with the greater or periodically varying amplitude for power condition trough transferring to nominal power 144kW. Beating conditions coincide with third mode having frequency 45.486 Hz. In that case there is high increasing of the equivalent stresses. The forming of the stiffness of the composite material is concerned to use most orientation of the layer angle in the range of $\pm$60 degrees relatively of shaft axis. Application of that angles for layer orientation gives possibility to avoid high disturbance of the shafting for motorboat transition regime.

  • A number of universities around the world provide various undergraduate and graduate programs for digital forensic. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer program suitable for senior students in the IT and law departments to learn multi-disciplinary convergence subjects. We have first analyzed the key ingredients of digital forensic and then the current programs in several universities. After describing the qualifications anticipated for digital forensic specialists, we have critically analyzed the courses currently offered in the IT and law departments. Based on the analysis and discussions, we have proposed an IT+law program and two flexible operation schemes of the program for securing the desired level of convergence education.

  • We have analyzed sea surface temperature and salinity data collected in the western Pacific Ocean by using an automated Thermosalinograph (TSG) installed on the RV Onnuri during May - June of 2001. The TSG data exhibit characteristics of water masses distributed in the near surface layer of the cruise area very well. Especially, they reveal the diurnal surface temperature cycle and the effect of rainfall on temperature and salinity in the equatorial region, showing the effectiveness of the use of TSG. Problems to be improved for the better TSG operation are the method of water sampling and calibration of TSG sensors. Installation of a pressure gauge in the TSG system and periodical sensor calibration are strongly recommended to ensure reliability of data.

  • Because of being produced a great deal of excess sludges from biological wastewater treatment process, the subject regarding treatment and disposal of them has been significantly handled in real plants. It should be considered the alternative treatment with easy operating and cost effective process in rural areas. For the thickening of wasted activated sludge from small scale wastewater treatment facilities, thus, the provisional sludge thickening system was developed by the application of mesh filter module. Three meshes with different pore size(100, 150, $200{\mu}m$) were prepared for filter modules that were used to withdraw effluent from thickening system. A filter module with $100{\mu}m$ mesh was chosen as the most effective thickening material in the viewpoint of volume reduction and effluent quality: the volume reductions of initially injected sludge with 3,600 mg/L and 9,100 mg/L were 95% and 85%, respectively, and the filtered effluents were enough good to be shown below 1.0 mg/L of SS and 1.0 NTU of turbidity. Since the filtration of thickening was influenced by the cake layer formed on mesh filter module and this system was operated in the combination of sludge thickening with gravity settling, the filter modules with smaller pore size and the larger floc size were required for long term operation safely.

  • With the reactor operation conditions - 4.3 wt% $^{235}U$ initial enrichment, burn-up 55,000 MWd/MTU, average power 34 MW/MTU for three periods burned time for 539.2 days per period and cooling time for 100 hours after shut down, to set up the condition to determine the minimum height (depth) of spent fuel storage pool to shut off the radiation out of the spent fuel storage pool and to store spent fuels safely, the dose rate on the specific position directed to the surface of spent fuel storage pool induced by the neutron and gamma-ray from spent fuels are evaluated. The length of spent fuel is 381 cm, and as the result of evaluation on each position from the top of spent fuel to the surface of spent fuel storage pool, it is difficult for neutrons from spent fuels to pass through the water layer of maximum 219 cm (600 cm from the floor of spent fuel storage pool) and 419 cm (800 cm from the floor of spent fuel storage pool) for gamma-ray. Therefore, neutron and gamma-ray from spent fuels can pass through below 419 cm (800 cm from the floor) water layer directed to the surface of spent fuel storage pool.

  • The internal oxide scale of twelve superheater and reheater tubes were tested which were serviced for 30,000~120,000 hours in thermal power plants. The oxide scale was formed in three layers. The Cr-rich area was observed beneath the original metal surface. The hematite ($Fe_2O_3$) phase was formed on the outer surface. The intermediate layer was magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$). The thickness of Cr-rich layer was about half of the total scale. All layers grew during the operation hour of the plant. The thickness of thickest scale was 0.2mm in superheater tubes. This can increase the tube metal temperature about $7^{\circ}C$ more than initial state. $7^{\circ}C$ tube metal temperature can reduce tube life about 30%, but the boiler tube's design margin is big enough therefore it has been analyzed that it would not effect on the life span.
