  • The author had collected the full mouth stone model of 277 persons from 20 ages to 60 ages and studied the attrition pattern of posterior teeth paying attention to the teeth cusps on the stone model. All of the attrition patterns were classified by age, sex and analyzed. The results are followings : 1. Attrition patterns of posterior teeth were divided into 64 forms.(expept 3rd molar) 2. There was no significant difference between right & left. 3. Generally early attrition pattern of younger age and late attriction pattern of older age were more prominent in men being compared with sexual difference. 4. Being compared with age group, early attrition pattern showed decreasing tendency and late attrition pattern showed increasing tendency by aging.

  • The subject of the paper is for the study about the implication and the changes of design and functions in the underwear by the change of the times from late 19c until present time. Researching on documents and magazine's articles, and interviewing with women older than 60s is used for the period of previous 1960s. researching on documents, advertising, newspaper, and interviewing with the persons concerned is used for the period of after 1960s. Analysis showed periodical change in underwear is divided into that the changes of the time is divided into 1890-1950 start to Westernization in underwear, 1957-1969 Ready made in underwear. 1950-1969 Variety in underwear, 1980-1989 Fashioning, functioning in underwear, 1990-present Withdrawing from fundamental notion in underwear. The time of 1890-l950 showed the biggest change in an external form in underwear. In 1950-1969, notions of beauty in underwear ultimately swatch from Oriental sense to Western sense, In 70s, underwear achieved the early stage of fashioning. In 80s, Underwear became one of fashion item. In 90s, underwear achieved higher quality and variety. The basic notion of underwear was destroyed by exposing underwear.

  • This research aims to study the changes In gastrointestinal function attributed to aging In human. The thresholds for recognition and detection of flavors became elevated and salivary gland acinar cells decreased in the old age. But most esophageal function remained relatively Intact. Although gastric emptying time has been slowed with aging, the total intestinal transit time did not differ. Atropic gastritis due to H. pylori in old man decreased secretion of acid and Intrinsic factor and absorbability of calcium and iron. Pancreatic secretion is droned in older persons. Prevalence of gallstones rised with age. Liver size and portal blood flow decreased significantly with age. Mucosal surface area has been reported to be slightly diminished in the aging man. Glucose transporters decreased and Insulin tolerance Increased. Absorption of aromatic amino acid is diminished with age. Dietary protein In that aging human increased fecal nitrogen excretion. Vitamin A tolerance increased. Vitamin D receptor concentration decreased and resistance to 1,25-(OH)2D3 action increased. Permeability of aging small Intestine Increased. Zinc balance dirt not differ Copper absorption appeared not to be significantly affected by age. Neurotensin secretion decreased thus slowed colonic peristaltic movements and Intestinal mucosal growth.

  • Presbycusis or related-age hearing loss is approximately 30 percent for people aged over 65 years. The purpose of this study was to compare the relationship between the Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly and the Berg Balance Scale for predicting and screening risk of falls in people over 65 years with diagnosed presbycusis. Thirty-five subjects all lived at the nursing home in Wonju. Disability caused presbycusis was measured using the Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly, and static and dynamic balance was measured using Berg Balance Scale. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation. Statistically significant differences were noted between two clinical meausres (r=.862, p<0.001). In conclusion, the results suggest that presbycusis may be able to predict dangerous falls in older persons.

  • Among older persons falls are the leading cause of death resulting from injury. The research was conducted to investigate the effects of transitional floor surfaces and visual field obstruction on gait mechanisms in the elderly. Ten college students and ten elderly individuals participated in the experiment. The results indicated that walking on transitional floor surfaces and carrying a light load changed the elderly individuals biomechanical parameters of gait mechanisms more significantly than their younger counterparts in terms of slip severity. The result implies that the types of floor material placed in the homes of elderly individuals and in public places should minimize transitional floor surfaces and the elderly individuals should be made aware of the danger of slipping even when carrying a light load.

  • To identify possible associations with concentrations of ambient air pollutants and daily mortality in Busan, this study assessed the effects of air pollution for the time period 1999-2000. Poisson regression analysis by Generalized Additive Model were conducted considering trend, season, meteorology, and day-of-the-week as confounders in a nonparametric approach. Busan had a 10% increase in mortality in persons aged 65 and older(95% Cl : 1.01-1.10) in association with IQR in $NO_2$(lagged 2 days). An increase of $NO_2$(lagged 2days) was associated with a 4% increase in respiratory mortality(Cl : 1.02-1.11) and CO(lagged 1 day) showed a 3% increase(Cl : 1.00-1.07).

  • Recently, in Korea the birthrate is declining and the average life span has been increasing. Thus, compared to the previous periods nowadays, older people are required to work. Even elderly people are rejoining the workforce. Korean companies set the retirement age between 55 and 60 years of age, however, accidents occur frequently. Thus, it becomes necessary to evaluate the ability of the elderly person. Since the required function of the worker varies from job to job the evaluation of the capability must also be conducted according to the desired functions. One of the methods used in this study is the continuous control knob to evaluate the tracking control ability to investigate the relationship of manual dexterity and age. The result of the study Indicates that the manual dexterity decreases with age. However, there are differences among individuals. The individuals lifestyle affected the manual dexterity of that individual. As a result, a company may use the manual dexterity as an measure to evaluate the elderly persons work ability.

  • Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) causes not only pain during walking but also walking disorders. Therefore, intervention for older patients with OA is important. Objective: To study investigated the effects of kinesio taping (KT) on pain and walking ability in elderly persons with knee OA. Design: One group, pre-post design Methods: This study enrolled 12 community-dwelling elderly people with knee OA. KT was applied on the surrounding structures, including the patellar and bilateral lateral ligaments. Assessment was made using the visual analog scale and GAITRite system to measure pain and walking ability during KT and non-KT conditions. Results: In this study, compared to the non-KT condition, the KT condition showed a significant improvement in walking ability and pain reduction during walking (velocity, cadence, step length, and stride length) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that knee KT has a positive effect on pain reduction and walking ability of the elderly with OA.

  • Herpes zoster (HZ) affects about one in three persons in their life time. Compared with the general population, older adults with immune senescence and individuals who are immunocompromised therapy are at increased risk for HZ, and its debilitating complications. To prevent HZ, two HZ vaccines, zoster vaccine live (ZVL) and recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) are available. RZV is The Korean Society of Infectious Diseases revised guidelines for HZ vaccine in 2023, and recommended to vaccinate with RZV for adults ≥ aged 50 years and for severely immunocompromised adults aged ≥ 18 years. RZV is more effective for prevention of HZ than ZVL. RZV is nonreplicating and is thus safe in immunocompromised patients. RZV has clinically acceptable safety profile. This review will help clinicians update knowledge about RZV and identify eligible subjects who may benefit from HZ vaccinations.
