  • A relationship between the water quantity and the inflow pollutant loads of BOD, TN, and TP in So-okcheon of the upper Keum river in 2000 was investigated in this study. Daily streamflow of So-okcheon needed to compute the pollutant loads was estimated by the DAWAST model, because there is no measurement of the discharge. From a relative function of the inflow pollutant loads using DAWAST, BOD can be estimated by the relation of $y=145.31x^{1.06},\;TN\;by\;y=598.11x^{0.90}\;and\;TP\;by\;y=39.60x^{0.89}$.

  • Carboniferous and Cretaceous rock samples were collected from 3 and 12 sites respectively in the vicinity of the Okcheon Zone. Mean directions of characteristic component magnetizations from Carboniferous rocks along the Honam Shearzone reveal that the Okcheon zone was considerably rotated and deformed during Triassic. The amount of rotations were clockwisely $80.3^{\circ}$ in Mungyeong and $42.4^{\circ}$ in Hwasun areas. Mean directions of characteristic component magnetizations obtained from Cretaceous Yeongdong and Neungju Basin were identical to those from the Gyeongsang Basin in the Yeongnam Block indicating no relative motion between them since Cretaceous. Cretaceous paleopole position from 4 locations, $204.9^{\circ}E$ in longitude and $65.1^{\circ}N $ in latitude.

  • The aims of this study are the characterization of runoff from nonpoint source, the analysis of the pollutant loads and an establishment of a management plan for nonpoint source of Okcheon. For this purpose the basin of the stream So-okcheon was selected to the investigated. During the period from May 29 to July 21 in 2003, the water automatic sampler system has been installed in Okkagkyo and parameters such as SS, COD, TOC, TP and TN were analyzed. The pollutants of nonpoint source seem to be washed out along the stream water in the beginning of rainfall, remain in water and cause the stream pollution. The runoffs during heavy rainfall, especially, much higher concentration of SS than those during dry period. With respect to the annual loading of pollutants of the nonpoint source, the COD was 124 ton/yr, TOC 396 ton/yr, TN 1,429 ton/yr and TP 4.2 ton/yr in the year 2002. With respect to the pollutants loading of the nonpoint source, the COD was 375 ton/yr(95% of the total COD loading of 394 ton/yr), TOC 844 ton/yr(96% of the tatal TOC loading of 876 ton/yr), TN 1,985 ton/yr(96% of the total TN loading of 2,062 ton/yr) and TP 37.1 ton/yr(92% of the total TP loading of 40.3 ton/yr) in the year 2003.

  • The study area is located in between Susanri and Hwanggangri where the formations of Okcheon group and Chosun group supposedly come in contact so that the area is structurally very import. Present study reveals that the meta-volcanic rocks distribute from south to north along contact zone of Okcheon and Chosun groups in the center of the area. Meta-volcanic rocks seem to be originated from the andesite or andesitic basalt rocks which was known to be Surchangri formation consist of phyllite and black slate by previous workers. The meta-volcanic rocks intruded along the fault zone one existed between Okcheon and Chosun groups but obliterated at present by the intrusion of volcanic rocks. The fault seems to be overthrust, and one of the positive evidences of thrust fault is the Yamisan nappe structure in Yamisan near Susanri. This interpretation coincides with O.J. Kim's work which states that the Precambrian Okcheon group is largely overturned and thrusted over the Chosun group. The relation between the Surchangri and the Majeonri formation marks facies change. This fact together with northpluging anticlinal structure made it possible that both formation came into contact along direction without fault. Yongam formation is not overlain unconformably used to be believed by previous workers, but interbed in the Great Limestone series of Chosun goup. It is also clarified that the rock formerly designated as limesilicate rock was meta-liparite. The origin of amphibole pebbles in the Kunjasan formation is of primary and secondary ones; the secondary pebbles were formed by metamorphism of the fragments of limestone or dolomite.

  • The Precambrian amphibolites in the central Gyeonggi massif, Yangsuri, Gyeonggido and southeastern Okcheon metamophic belt, Mungyeonggun, Gyeongsangbukdo, Korea, were studied on the geochemical characteristics of major and trace elements, and discussed petrogenetically and geotectonically. The characteristics of major elements of the amphibolites in these study areas are igeous origin such as tholeiitic-, subalkaline and alkaline basalt. Geotectonic distinction diagrams of trace elements such as Ti-Zr-Y and Zr-Nb-Y show basaltic igneous activity of island arc and mid ocean ridge environment at central Gyunggi massif, and within plate environment at southeastern Okcheon metamorphic belt. This result shows that genetic environments of study areas are different. Especially, origin of amphibolites in central Gyeonggi massif is similar with that of western Gyeonggi massif but different with the amphibolites of Chuncheon area. Genetic environment estimated of fractional crystallization of plagioclase has no particular effect on the origin of magma because value of LREE is higher than that of HREE and Eu anomaly definitely don't be exposed.

  • Black and graphite slates from the Okcheon metamorphic belt contain enriched values of uranium (average 200~250ppm) and molybdenum (average 150~200ppm). Uranium mineralization is closely associated with quartz and sulfide veinlets which are formed diagenetically in graphite slate. The uranium minerals were concentrated in outer part of graphite nodules. The ${\delta}^{13}C$ values of organic carbon from the metasediments including uranium bearing graphite slate range from -15.2 to -26.1‰ with a mean of -23.5‰. Meanwhile, ${\delta}^{13}C$ values of coal and coaly shale from some Paleozoic coal fields of South Korea vary from -19.4 to -23.9‰ with an average of -22.5‰. Isotopic compositions of vein calcite in uranium bearing slate range from -13.4 to -15.4‰ in ${\delta}^{13}C$ and +11.3 to +15.1‰ in ${\delta}^{18}O$ could indicate a reduced organic carbon source isotopically exchanged with a graphite of biogenic origin. Metamorphic temperature determined by a calcite-graphite isotope geothermometer was 383~$433^{\circ}C$ which corresponded to greenschist facies by Miyashiro (1973) and is consistent with metamorphic facies estimated by mineral assemblages (Lee, et al., 1981, and Kim, 1971). The fixation of uranyl species by carbonaceous matter in marine epicontinental environment, and remobilization of organouranium by diagenetic processes have attributed to the enrichment of uranium and heavy metals in the graphite slate of Okcheon metamorphic belt.

  • In this article, we use an open source software library: TensorFlow, developed for the purposes of conducting very complex machine learning and deep neural network applications. However, the system is general enough to be applicable in a wide variety of other domains as well. The proposed model based on a deep neural network model, LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) to predict the river water level at Okcheon Station of the Guem River without utilization of rainfall - forecast information. For LSTM modeling, the input data is hourly water level data for 15 years from 2002 to 2016 at 4 stations includes 3 upstream stations (Sutong, Hotan, and Songcheon) and the forecasting-target station (Okcheon). The data are subdivided into three purposes: a training data set, a testing data set and a validation data set. The model was formulated to predict Okcheon Station water level for many cases from 3 hours to 12 hours of lead time. Although the model does not require many input data such as climate, geography, land-use for rainfall-runoff simulation, the prediction is very stable and reliable up to 9 hours of lead time with the Nash - Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) is higher than 0.90 and the root mean square error (RMSE) is lower than 12cm. The result indicated that the method is able to produce the river water level time series and be applicable to the practical flood forecasting instead of hydrologic modeling approaches.

  • After carrying out on-the-spot observation targeting each farmhouse of large-scale environment-friendly agricultural district (LEAD), Suncheon, Sancheong, Jangheung, Yeongam, Hamyang, Okcheon, and Jeongseon in 2015, only one LEAD, a farmhouse in Jangheung had used sustainable compost coming out under their own non-antibiotic livestock. The soil pH and EC at a depth of 0-20 cm in the seven LEADs were ranged between 5.3-6.6 and $0.4-1.2dS\;m^{-1}$, respectively, with 0.03- 0.27% for T-N concentration, $22-322mg\;kg^{-1}$ for P, and $0.05-0.29mg\;kg^{-1}$, which were, in particular, low a farmhouse in Jeongseon. When intensively surveying on each farmhouse of Suncheon, Jangheung, and Okcheon for a growing period, seasonal soil pH was maintained above 6.0 and high in a farmhouse in Okcheon, with similar soil EC observed among the three LEADs. Seasonal soil T-N was 0.1% higher on the farmhouse in Suncheon than other two LEADs, with higher seasonal soil P observed on the farmhouse in Okcheon and higher soil K in the Jangheung. T-N concentration in rice (Oryza sativa L.) crops was the highest in Jangheung, and concentrations of T-N, P, and K decreased in a season. Plant height and number of tillers per hill were the highest on the farmhouse in Okcheon, where was similar or low plant diameter and SPAD levels compared to other two LEADs. Dry weight (DW) before harvest was ranged between 52-63 g, and DW, rough rice yield (kg), brown rice/rough rice (%), brown rice yield (kg), head rice (%), and broken rice (%) were not significantly different among the three LEADs. Total annual gross production ha-1 was the highest on the farmhouse in Okcheon (16,230,000 won) planting with high class of variety, 'Milky queen' at early maturation, which was expected to be increased on an agricultural income. However, high amount of fertilizer was applied for growing the following crops on the farmhouse in Okcheon, affecting the highest balance of T-N, P, and K more than $200kg\;ha^{-1}$.

  • The Okcheon Group in the southwestern part of the Okcheon Metamorphic Belt is subdivided into two distinct tectonostratigraphic units: the Boeun unit in the south and the Pibanryeong unit in the north. The Boeun unit consists of petites, psammites, carbonaceous petites, limestones and pebble-bearing quartzites. The Pibanryeong unit is composed of petites, well-sorted fine-grained psammites, carbonaceous psammites and quartzites. In order to outlining stratigraphy and depositional environments of the Okcheon Group, detailed stratigraphic sections were measured in three locations; one section(Gosan section) of the Boeun unit and two sections(Sorungjae and Hwangryeongzae sections) of the Pibanryeong unit. The Gosan section of the Boeun unit is interpreted to be deposited in the shallow marine environments, whereas the Sorungjae and Hwangryeonaiae sections of the Pibanryeong unit appear to be deposited in slope and deep basin environments. This result indicates rapid subsidence between deposition of the Boeun and Pibanryeong units in sedimentary environment. The trace of sedimentological environments in the Hwasan area was investigated by geochemical analysis of 109 metapelitic and psammitic rock samples. Distinct chemical variations of politic and psammitic rocks from the Boeun and Pibanryeong units in the study area are evident from plots of major elements and $A1_2O_3$/$SiO_2$ versus Basicity Index($Fe_2O_3{+}MgO$)/($SiO_2{+}K_2O{+}Na_2O$). The rocks show a progressive chemical trend from the Boeun unit to the Pibanryeong unit on these diagrams. They in the southern sector of the Boeun unit display lower values and a comparatively wide range of $A1_2O_3$/$SiO_2$ and Basicity Index, as compared with those from the northern sector of the Boeun and Pibanryeong units. The southern sector of the Pibanryeong unit including narrow staurolite-bearing zone is characterized by values that are transitional between the Boeun and Pibanryeong units. These data, combined with depositional environment progressively deepened towards the northwest, support a half-graben model for the Okcheon basin, as proposed by Cluzel et al.(1990)
