  • Knowledge of organic micropollutant transfers in barrier seal materials from waste storage facilities is limited to volatile organic compounds and phenolic compounds at ambient temperature. This study focused on the sorption of chlorophenols (CPs) from various geotextiles from clay geosynthetics under the influence of temperature. Also to study the impact of the polarity or the amount of CPs adsorbed on geotextiles with the partition coefficient. The effect of various parameters such as contact time, effect of temperature, initial CPs concentration and adsorbent dosage has been carried out in this study. The result obtained is non-linear and the data was calculated for affinity with Freundlich isotherm model. An important observation is that the amount of CPs sorbed on geotextiles increases with a growing number of chlorine atoms, ie increases with the partition coefficient (log Kow). During this study, a decrease in adsorbent properties was observed with the rise in temperature from 23℃ to 55℃. The partitioning coefficients for CPs examined range are from 2.4 (R2 = 0.86) to 8.4 mL/g (R2 = 0.90). Among the CPs studied, the highest adsorbed quantity was observed for pentachlorophenol with 0.052 g/g at 23℃, this quantity will decrease with the increase in temperature.

  • In devising a numerical approximation for the convective spatial transport of a fluid mechanical quantity, it is noted that the convective motion of a scalar quantity occurs in one-way, or from upstream to downstream. This consideration leads to a new scheme termed a pure upwind difference scheme (PUDS) in which an estimated value for a fluid mechanical quantity at a control surface is not influenced from downstream values. The formal accuracy of the proposed scheme is third order accurate. Two typical benchmark problems of a wall-driven fluid flow in a square cavity and a buoyancy-driven natural convection in a tall cavity are computed to evaluate performance of the proposed method. for comparison, the widely used simple upwind scheme, power-law scheme, and QUICK methods are also considered. Computation results are encouraging: the proposed PUDS sensitized to the convection direction produces the least numerical diffusion among tested convection schemes, and, notable improvements in representing recirculation of fluid stream and spatial change of a scalar. Although the formal accuracy of PUDS and QUICK are the same, the accuracy difference of approximately a single order is observed from the revealed results.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate child - care effects on young child's aggression in ecological context. For this, main effects, interaction effects and cumulative effects between child care experiences(quantity, quality, age of entry and stability) and maternal behavior as well as characteristics of child(sex, age and temperament) were examined. A total of 62 young children(34 boys and 28 girls) enrolled in child - care center were observed, and mothers and caregivers completed questionnaires. Data was analysed by three - way ANOVA, logistic regression and crosstabs. As result, first, main effects of quantity, rejective and regulative mothering on children's aggression were found. Second, there were significant interaction effects between both quality and quantity of day-care and rejective mothering. In particular, the interaction effects provided evidence that high - quality child - care served a compensatory function for extensive care and rejective mothering. Third, logistic regression analysis revealed risk factors for child's aggression and the effects of these risk factors were cumulative. Interaction effects of day-care quality and cumulative effects of day-care, characteristics of child and maternal behavior on child aggression were discussed.

  • By measuring the absorbed hydrogen quantity as a function of the number of cycles, the cycling properties of the Mg-15 wt%Ni-5 wt%$Fe_2O_3$ alloy were investigated. The absorbed hydrogen quantity decreased as the number of cycles increased. The $H_a$ value varied almost linearly with the number of cycles. The maintainability of absorbed hydrogen quantity at n=100 was 89.0% for the hydriding reaction time of 10 min. After the $150^{th}$ hydriding-dehydriding cycle, Mg, $Mg_2Ni$, $Mg(OH)_2$, MgO, and Fe were observed. The phases were analyzed by Rietveld analysis from the XRD patterns of the Mg-15 wt%Ni-5 wt%$Fe_2O_3$ alloy after 150 hydriding-dehydriding cycles. The crystallite size and strain of Mg were then estimated with the Williamson-Hall technique.

  • Two-way concrete slab is often modeled as an orthotropic plate. In the modeling, flexural rigidities of the slab which depend upon the re-bar quantity have to be taken into account. Elastic equivalence technique in which the equilibrium and compatibility of the cross-section of slab satisfied is utilized to determine th flexural rigidities. In the analysis Navier's method is applied on the concrete slab with all edges simply supported under inform lateral load. In addition to the analysis using orthotropic plate theory, finite element method is also adopted to suggest the finite element modeling and to investigate the applicability of the method. Results obtained by both methods were compared and it is observed that the difference of the results was increased as the ratio of re-bar quantity increased.

  • Purpose Through the provision of real time performance information about who is contributing and who is not in Electronic Brainstorming, prior studies evidenced a significant performance gain. However, it has been observed that the quantity-based performance feedback alone does not have enough restrictiveness to guide the performance behavior throughout the idea generation session. We included the notion of goal setting into the process performance feedback mechanism in an effort to regulate performance behavior and to better understand why individuals in Electronic Brainstorming are not obtaining enough stimulation benefits in the group interaction process. Design/methodology/approach We had developed real-time visual process performance feedback and modified to include goal setting. This mechanism visually displays individuals' performances two-dimensionally (quality for each idea vertically and quantity of ideas horizontally along with their goals). As individuals' contributions accumulate, the mechanism reveals performance histories by connecting the sequence of ideas in a time-series format, telling stories of individuals' performances. Then, we compared the performance outcome from this study with the outcomes from two prior studies (i.e., Jung et al., 2010 and Jung, 2014). Findings The results showed that the inclusion of goal setting into the process performance feedback solved the issue in the previous study. That was the lower than expected magnitude of performance enhancement of process performance feedback when compared to that of quantity-based feedback. It appears that goals as a motivational technique provide standards for systematic self-evaluation, serving as a cue to regulate performance behavior by strengthening the linkage between effort and performance. Thus, goals seem to set up a self-fulfilling prophecy, preconditioning better performance. However, the outcome still showed that its performance magnitude is unsatisfactory because the outcome of this study turned out to be close to the outcome of just quantity-based performance feedback in Jung et al.'s (2010) study.

  • Most of hot springs don't spring out naturally but are pumped by submersible pumps in Korea. When pumped piezometric head in a well is dropped with proportion to quantity. This research investigates relationships between quantity and drawdown at the Onyang hot spring area. There are 38 wells at this area and the depths of wells range from 124 m to 303 m. Piezometric heads of 4 wells were observed for about 10 months. Fluctuation patterns of piezometric heads seem to be a sine curve with a you period by a high demand and a slack season. Drawdowns of fluctuations were about 98-139 m depth to water table when wells were pumped at $2,300-4,800m^3/day$. A equation was made through analyzing quantity and drawdown.

  • The experiment was carried out to study the effect of Korean wild ginseng adventitious root supplementation on the laying performance, egg quality, cytokine expression, ginsenoside concentration, and microflora quantity of Institut de selection Animale (ISA) brown laying hens at 24 weeks old. A total of 90 laying hens were subjected to a completely randomized design at three treatments, five repetitions and six laying hens per replicate. The experiments were divided by diets into the basic feed (CON), basic feed + 0.1% wild ginseng (WG1), and basic feed + 0.5% wild ginseng (WG2). The feeding trial was carried out over a duration of 12 weeks after an initial acclimation period of 2 weeks. Feeds and water were administered ad libitum in mash form, and light was available for 16 hours per day. At the end of study, henday egg production (HDEP), average egg weight (AEW), and egg mass (EM) were increased (p <0.05) in WG2 at week 12. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) was decreased (p < 0.05) in WG2 at week 12. The ginsenoside content in egg yolk was increased (p <0.05) in laying hens in the WG2 treatment at week 12. Relative expression of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) was reduced (p < 0.05) in the WG supplemented diets at week 12. The fecal microflora quantity of Lactobacillus was increased (p < 0.05) in WG2 at week 8 to week 12, and Escherichia coli (E. coli) was significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in the WG2 at week 12. We concluded that the result observed in the HDEP, AEW, EM and FCR was due to an increase in ginsenoside content, leading to an improvement in the TNF-α, and fecal microflora quantity such as Lactobacillus and E. coli in the WG2 supplemented diets. We therefore recommend the use of WG at application level 0.5% per basal diet for optimum laying performance in layer hens.
