An Eye Toward the Next-Generation Vision of Knowledge Management Systems

  • Ubiquitous computing environment accelerates the advent of the IT Ecosystem. In the coming generation, a massive number of ubiquitous devices and services are converged into an ultra-large-scale system. In this context, high degrees of complexity and organization change the paradigm of knowledge and its management levels. The objective of this paper is to explore the Knowledge Management Systems in view of demands in ultra-large-scale systems. We introduce motivation for Next-Generation (NG) usage and their upcoming requirements. The possible applications will be discussed, and summary of different techniques are conducted. The tools and techniques that allow KMS to operate as "Vital Success Enabler" to achieve organizational benefits will be examined. Potential future directions for research are highlighted: these include advances in knowledge capture, storage / retrieval and sharing techniques, in particular with the surrounding role of information technology.

  • Comparing to the other subject, hierarchy among mathematical contents is strong from the perspective of knowledge order as grades go up. That is, the knowledge that students already have learned, are learning and will learn are closed related from grade to grade. We expect students to be proactive and creative in studying mathematics, which is the goal of 21th century, analyzing their. knowledge structure based on the hierarchy of knowledge through assessment. Especially, using computer system we provide students with substantial feedback for the assessment as well as objective validity is increased along with speedy and exact process in a bid to help students' mathematical understanding grow. This paper seeks to analyze the assessment data by applying knowledge spaces to computer system and develops efficient methods based on the analyzed results, to diagram each student's knowledge structure.

  • The objective of manufacturing knowledge sharing platform is to convert the production experience like a worker's know-how into quantitative values, to construct database of the process technologies and to share the technologies systematically via web portal service. In addition, the knowledge sharing platform contains the total production processes of automobile and mobile products such as information of experts, facilities, and cutting-edge R&D outputs. Automobile, telecommunication mobile, and semiconductors account for a large amount of Korea's export industry rate. These industries need production technology which is a result of converting worker's know-how and R&D. Manufacturing knowledge portal aims to enable transforming production experience such as worker's know-how into standardized form for constructing database and sharing technologies systematically. Manufacturing knowledge portal can contribute to small and mid-sized manufacturing companies with further improvements.

What Practical Knowledge Do Teachers Share on Blogs? An Analysis Using Text-mining

  • With the recent advancement of technology, there has been an increase in professional development activities, including teachers using blogs to share practical knowledge and reflect on teaching and learning. This study was conducted to identify the contents of practical knowledge shared through the K-12 teachers' blogs. To achieve the research objective, 70,571 blog posts were collected from 329 blogs of K-12 teachers in Korean and analyzed using text mining techniques. The results of the study are as follows. First, practical knowledge sharing activities using teacher blogs have increased. Teachers posted a lot of blogs during the semester. Second, primary school teachers share various curriculum activities, reflections on project classes, class management, opinions related to education, and personal. Third, secondary school teachers share summaries and reviews of curriculum, materials related to college entrance exams, various instructional materials, opinions related to education, and personal experiences on their blogs. This study suggested that blogs are widely used as a venue for sharing practical knowledge of teachers, and that blogs can be a useful way to develop professionalism.

어머니의 영양지식에 따른 유아기 자녀의 비만도 및 식습관의 차이 (Mothers' Nutrition Knowledge and Their Preschoolers' Obesity and Dietary Habits)

  • The principal objective of this study was to determine the effects of mothers' nutrition knowledge on preschoolers' obesity and dietary habits. The subject population included 456 mothers and their preschoolers, aged 3 to 5 years, who were enrolling in kindergartens located in Seoul and KyongGi-Do, Korea. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The majority of mothers responded correctly to those questions concerning obesity-related nutritional knowledge, but responded incorrectly to questions regarding basic nutritional knowledge. 2. The mothers' nutritional knowledge was associated significantly with the mother's age (p<0.05) and degree of education (p<0.05). 3. The mothers' nutritional knowledge was significantly and negatively correlated with their obesity, but not with their preschoolers' obesity. 4. Mothers' nutritional knowledge was determined to be positively associated with higher interest in nutritional information and food selection in regard to weight management strategies for their kids. 5. In general, preschoolers whose mother had excellent nutrition knowledge evidenced better dietary habits than preschoolers whose mothers had poor nutrition knowledge. In particular, one question regarding serving size was significantly associated with mothers' general level of nutritional knowledge(p<0.05).

  • It is a challenging task to introduce and apply a theoretical concept like KM (Knowledge Management) to the corporate management by formulating such notion into a computer-based system. Apart from that, a company who suffers financially will be very much reluctant to employ KM, a solution that will not make an immediate impact on profit generation. Nonetheless, the perception of life-long workplace is being replaced by that of life-long career in today's society, and consequently it has become a key importance for the management to minimizing the Joss of valuable knowledge that results from frequent shift of manpower. Furthermore, knowledge is now regarded as a key to corporate competitiveness as its value has become a more important factor than that of physical resource in estimating a company's value. It is therefore necessary to transform such implicit knowledge that one possesses in his/her mind to a formation so that a company can achieve the ultimate goal of implementing KM: increase of profit and cost reduction. The objective of this research is to look into the case examples of the way in which Samsung Electronics implemented KM and help set the direction for those companies who consider employing KM into their corporate system.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 지식기반관점에서 인터넷 포탈에서의 지식공유 유형을 분석하는 것이다. 또한 사용자의 지식공유 행태를 고찰함으로써 인터넷 포탈의 진화과정에 대한 통찰을 얻고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 지식공여와 지식수집이라는 2가지 차원을 기반으로 지식공유 유형을 제시하고, 한국의 주요한 인터넷 포탈에 대한 사례분석을 통하여 제시한 유형을 검증하였다. 연구의 결과에서 협업, 축적 및 출판이라는 3가지 유형의 인터넷 포털 지식공유 유형이 도출되었다. 또한 사용자의 지식공유 행태는 인터넷 포탈 진화과정의 주요동인으로서 작용한다는 것을 제시하였다.

  • Increasing productivity of knowledge workers is a significant issue in the 21st century referred as knowledge-based society. The core key word is behavior of knowledge transfer among members of an organization. The objective of this study is to investigate a model based on Triandis theory and Social Capital theory. This explored the antecedent factors of knowledge Transfer in ITO(Information Technology Outsourcing) Organization. Data were derived from 42 respondents working IT Cooperation in Seoul, Korea. In this paper, we introduce the research model for the knowledge transfer. In order to validate the proposed research model, social network analysis tool, UCINET, a structural equation modeling tool, SmartPLS, was utilized. The empirical result showed that, all antecedent factors (intention of knowledge sharing, anticipated reciprocal relationships, subjective norm, closeness network centrality) of knowledge transfer behavior were significant. In conclusion, findings and implications were discussed and limitations of the study and future research directions were suggested.

Information Professionals' Knowledge Sharing Practices in Social Media: A Study of Professionals in Developing Countries

  • The primary objective of this study was to investigate the perception of informational professionals' knowledge sharing practices in social media platforms. The specific objectives of the study included learning professionals' perceptions and awareness of knowledge sharing using social media, understanding their opinions and beliefs, and gaining familiarity with and reasons for using these tools. Open & close ended web-based questions were sent out by email to the international training program (ITP) participants. Findings indicated that most of the respondents' were aware of using social media and that they used social media for knowledge sharing. Speed and ease of use, managing personal knowledge, easier communication with users and colleagues and powerful communication tool are the areas that motivated them to use it. It also stated some barriers like lack of support, familiarity, trust, unfiltered information and fear of providing information. The study was limited to the perceptual aspect of the issue, specifically from the individuals' opinions and sentiments.

영아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 양육지식, 양육스트레스, 양육행동간의 종단적 관계 (The Longitudinal Relationship between Parenting Knowledge, Parenting Stress, and Parenting Behavior of Mothers with Infants)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the causal relationship between parenting knowledge, parenting stress, and parenting behavior of mothers with infants and to confirm the longitudinal mediating effect of parenting stress in the relationship between parenting knowledge and parenting behavior. Methods: This study used data collected through the Panel Study on Korean Children from 2008 to 2010 and the participants were 1,444 mothers with infants. The data were analyzed through technical statistics, correlations and multivariate potential growth models using SPSS 28.0 and AMOS 26.0. Results: Parenting knowledge and parenting stress of mothers gradually increased, and positive parenting behavior gradually decreased. Having a lot of parenting knowledge reduced mother's parenting stress. Mother's parenting stress reduced positive parenting behavior, and as parenting stress increased, positive parenting behavior decreased significantly. However, the relationship between parenting knowledge and parenting behavior was not significant. In addition, the mediating effect of parenting stress was confirmed in the relationship between parenting knowledge and parenting behavior of mothers. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest the need to reduce parenting stress and promote positive parenting behavior along with the systematization of parent education programs in order for mothers with infants to acquire parenting knowledge.
