This study was undertaken in an attempt to; 1) measure value orientation of nursing activities, 2) identify the relationship between nurse's role perception and patient's expectation, and 3) evaluate the pattern of nursing education and nursing service administration. 203 hospitalized adults and 203 professional nurses from 11 general hospitals in Seoul during the period of July to December 1973 were tested according to questionnaire based on 4 categories of clinical nursing activities, 1) physical care, 2) observation and control, 3) psycho-social care and 4) therapeutic measures. Results of the study are as follows: 1. Nurses were more concerned than patients in the physical care category. Significant difference was revealed by p<.01 level (t=2.800). Mean value score of nurses was average (2.84), and mean value score of patients was relative' y low (2.49). None of the physical care category questionnaire items were over 3.5. 2. Respondents from hospitals of total care system revealed significant difference in the physical care category by P〈.025 level. (t=2.242). Mean value score of both group were average level (nurse 2.90, patient 2.53), nurses showed higher concern. 3. Difference between nurse's role perception and patient's expectation in observation and control category was revealed non- significance by p〉0.05. level (t=1.238). Mean value score of both group revealed relatively high (nurse=3.44, patient 3.19). 4. Difference between nurse's role perception and patient〉expectation in psycho-social cart category revealed non- significance by p〉.05 level (t=0.758), Mean value score of both group revealed average level (nurse =2.71, patient =2.53), 5. Non- significant difference was noted between B. S. N. and diploma nurse's role perception in the psycho- social care category by p> 0.1 level (t=0.316). 4. Difference between nurse's role perception and patient's expectation in the rapeutic me assures category revealed non- significance by p〉0.05 level) t=0.503). Horses showed high concern by mean value score 3.56 level and patients relatively high by 3.41. All items of this category revealed very high or relatively high value score.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the student nurse's perception and performance about the protecting behavior of the medical information. The subjects of the study were 365 senior nursing students. The data was analyzed by SPSS PC 19.0 program. 1) The mean scores of perception and performance by student nurse's on protecting behavior of the medical information were $4.39{\pm}0.40$ and $3.71{\pm}0.57$. 2) The perception on protecting behavior of the medical information was heavily dependent on the following age. 3) The performance on protecting behavior of the medical information was heavily dependent on the following career interests and work unit. 4) There was a positive correlation between the perception and performance about the protecting behavior of the medical information. The results showed the statistically significant partial correlation between the perception and performance. Therefore, it is suggested to apply the concrete education program to enhance the perception in order to improve the performance.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the nurse's role performance and the perception of the importance of role among nurses practicing in a cancer care facility. Methods: A descriptive study design was applied with convenient sampling of 175 nurses working at a cancer care facility in Daegu, Korea. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire from July 1, 2013 to July 5, 2013. Results: Cancer care facility nurse's role performance score was measured on average $3.23{\pm}0.64.$ Oral medication was the most frequently performed role, followed by encouragement, care related to medication, and pain management. The perception of the importance of nurse's role was measured on average $3.31{\pm}0.35$. Care related to medication was regarded as the most important, followed by transfusion, oral medication, and intravenous & intramuscular medication. Nurse's role performance was different according to nurse's age (F=3.21, p=.024) and current practice area (F=3.73, p=.012). The perception of the importance of nurse's role was different only in relation to current practice area (F=6.82, p<.001). Conclusion: Nurses practicing in oncology setting frequently involve encouraging patients and pain management. Training programs designed to facilitate frequently performed and highly regarded nurse's roles are required for nurses practicing in oncology setting.
This is the descriptive investigation study intended to provide basic informations to develop concrete method of nurse arbitration which can improve the quality of nursing care on family by investigating and analyzing the perception and practice on family nursing of clinical nurse. 332 nurses working in 4 university hospitals in Seoul have been the object and the collection of data have been conducted by visiting cooperated by the department of nursing in university hospital from April 4th through April 17th 1998. The measuring instrument of the perception and the practice on family nursing which was written by the researcher was used based on the family nursing arbitration by recently amending Calgary Family Arbitration of the Model of Wright & Leahey. Cronbach's a value of this instrument was .9288 in the perception and .9168 in the practice the collected data have been analyzed by frequency percentage, averaged value. t-test, F-test(ANOVA), Duncan's Multiple Range, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and the results are as the follows: 1. The perception on patient's family nursing of clinical nurse showed comparatively high by 3.22 in average(maximum 3.52, minimum 2.82) on the basis of 4 point but the practice showed low by average 2.47(maximum 3.02, minimum 2.11), By providing the patients and their family with "The information about the health problem of the which is the role of giving explanation and information about the disease. the nurse presents the method of their helping patient and in case that the family lack of knowledge about the health problem and crisis of the patient which is the role of education about the method of solving the crisis and change. the nurse educates about the necessity and method of taking care of the crisis and the changes. The third question that the relation of recognizing the difficuly of family and cooperating with them in supporting the patient for mutual function is to be formed showed high in the degree of perception and practice of the necessity. 2. General characteristics of perception about patient's family nursing of the object showed no significant difference except the concerns about the family usually(F=5.472. p<.001) and general characteristics which showed significant difference in the degree of practice were educational background (F=3.177, p<.05), clinical experience (F=2.462, p<.05) and position(F=7.029. p<.001), and attention about patient's family(F=10.603, p<.001), 3. The relation between perception and practice about the nursing on patient's family showed pure correlation but the degree was very low(r=.188, p<.05). The above results showed that the clinical nurses has been high understanding about the necessity of patient's family nursing but the degree of practice has been very low due to the lack of education about the family nursing, having no ways of nurse arbitration for practical duty and lack of political administrative support. Therefore concrete and systematic family situation and arbitration method to be applied clinically are required to be developed and also the education about patient's family nursing and the development of the course for clinical practice are required and political and administrative support for clinical practice about patient's family nursing is required as well.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine how the self-image of nursing students can affect the perception of the nurse and to verify the moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy on perception of the nurse and self image of nursing students. Methods: This study was carried out by 768 nursing students of 10 Universities from all parts of the country from June 18, 2012 to July 13, 2012. Data was analyzed by the SPSS (frequency, ANOVA, and hierarchial multiple regression analysis) program. The moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy in the relationship between self-image and the nurse's perception of nursing students was measured. Results: The result of male students shows that self-regulatory efficacy affects the perception of the nurse. In the case of female students, their self-image and self-regulatory efficacy were statistically significant. In addition, the moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy was statistically significant. Conclusions: Colleges of nursing are in need of providing chances to students to attend a class related to understanding how to encourage a positive self image. In addition, a positive self image can effect a nurse's identity. As the moderating effect of self-regulatory efficacy is proved to be effective, nursing students should request a way to achieve recognition with professionalism during nurse's training.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the patient's perception of the nurse's behavior in protecting patient privacy and to make suggestions for medical facilities to increase protection of patient privacy. Method: The research was a survey study The data on protection of privacy in primary nursing, for physical privacy, of patient information and in private conversations were collected in October 2005 from 187 patients in a university hospital. Frequencies, means, t-test, ANOVA, and $x^2$-test were used to analyze the data. The SPSS 13.0 for Windows program was used. Results: The mean score for patients' perception of nurse protection of their privacy was 3.33. There were significant differences in perception of protecting patients' privacy according to gender for private conversation, according to level of education for all but physical nursing and for number of admissions for total score and for primary nursing. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest the following: a) Institutional polices and nursing guideline should be clearly stated as to the nurses' duty to protect patient privacy. b) Medical facilities should be arranged in a way that allows for the protection of patients' medical information, and should focus on patient privacy. c) It is necessary of nurses to receive periodic in-service education on protecting patient privacy.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the differences of knowledge, perception, and performance between the points of time before and after ICU nurses had the backrest elevation education. Method: The study subjects were 58 nurses at a medical and surgical ICU of one general Y hospital located in Seoul. They received the education, including backrest elevation guideline and related education materials. Data were collected from May 11 throughout August 12, 2007 with a structured questionnaire. Results: 1) There were significant differences in the mean scores of knowledge(2.21 at pre-education, 5.24 at post-education), perception(36.96 at pre-education, 53.36 at post-education), and performance(32.08 at pre-education, 43.51 at post-education), 2) There was a significant correlation between nurse's perception and performance (p=.000). 3) The nurse's perception regarding the importance of the back rest elevation education was significantly effective on their performance (p=.000). Conclusion: The backrest elevation education would contribute to improve ICU nurse's knowledge, perception and performance. The more the nurses would consider the importance of this education, the better they would perform the nursing intervention of backrest elevation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the emergency-room nurse's perception and performance about the protection behavior of the consumer health information. Method: The participants were 191 emergency-room nurses in secondary, tertiary medical center nationally. The data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program. Result: First, the total average scores of the degree of the perception and performance by emergencyroom nurses on protection behavior of the consumer health information were $4.24{\pm}0.30$ and $3.51{\pm}0.26$. Second, the degree of the perception and performance on protection behavior of the consumer health information was heavily dependent on the following general characteristics of the participants: age, nurse position, career, and education experience on protection behavior of the consumer health information. Third, there was a positive correlation between the degree of perception and performance about the protection behavior of the consumer health information. Conclusions: The results showed the statistically significant partial correlation between the degree of perception and performance. Therefore, it is suggested to apply the concrete education program to enhance the perception in order to improve the performance.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the gap between the nurse's expectation and perception of internal marketing activities. Methods: The participants of this study were 521 nurses working in four general hospitals. The data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires. They were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired-t test. Results: First, the mean of the nurse's expectation of internal marketing activities was 3.83, and perception was 2.54, showing a significant difference. Second, in all of the five subcategories of internal marketing activities, there were also statistically significant differences. Regarding the vacation system, the expectation score was highest, and support of academic education programs in education and training, payed-leaves during vacation, discounting of medical fees in employee welfare, distress management and two-way intercommunication, and allowances in reward were followed. Conclusion: These results will be used to develop focused internal marketing strategies to enhance the nurses' motivation.
PBL can be defined as an active, self-directed and student-centered learning, and an opposite way of classroom teacher-centered learning which has been traditional role learning. PBL enables students think more efficiently and effectively when puzzling through the patient problems. The purpose of this study is to find out the perception of student nurse about PBL, the characteristics and the structure of the type for PBL. The research process is as follow : First, the researcher selected 35 statements for PBL with the content analysis of in depth interview and the literature review. Second, the researcher asks 38 student nurse to classify the statement cards. The result of the research is that the type of student nurse's PBL perception is divided into 4 types(Affirmative type, Negative type, Suspicious type, and Preferable type), and the explanative total variance is 44 percent. In relation to this, if PBL well combined and adapted in our traditional curriculum will change our nursing education in better direction.
