  • In this paper, we consider the optimal control of detection threshold to minimize the conditional mean-square state estimation error for the probabilistic data association (PDA) filter. Earlier works on this problem involved the cumbersome graphical optimization algorithm or time-consuming numerical optimization algorithm. Using the numerical approximation of information reduction factor, we obtained the closed-form optimal detection threshold. This results are very useful for real-time implemenation.

  • The thermomechanical behaviors of SMA thin film actuator and their application are investigated. The numerical algorithm of the 2-D SMA thermomechanical constitutive equation is developed and implemented into the ABAQUS finite element program by using the user defined material (UMAT) subroutine. To verify the numerical algorithm of SMAs, the results are compared with experimental data. For the application of SMA thin film actuator, the methodology to maintain the precise configuration of inflatable membrane structure is demonstrated.

  • This paper is to develop four heuristic algorithms for $n/m/D/F/F_{max}$. A study present numerical example for (H1) algorithm. Among the sequence generated, the best sequence is J2, J1, J6, J7, J4, J3, J5 and makespan is 528. The optimal makespan of this numerical example can be found as 528 as also, and the worst value of heuristic solution is only 7.2 % away from it.

  • Numerical simulation is conducted to clarify the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of traction motor for electric car SIMPLE algorithm based on finite volume method is used to make linear algebra equation. The governing equations are solved by TDMA(TriDiagonal Matrix Algorithm) with line-by-line method and block correction. From the results of simulation, the characteristics of cooling pattern is strongly affected by the size of hole in stator core. In the case of high rotational speed of rotor, temperature difference along the axial direction is more decreased than that of low rotational speed.

  • It is more appropriate to treat that the semi-solid mixture as a single phase material that obeys incompressibility in the global sense and to analyze the liquid flow only locally than the approach based on compressible yield criteria. In the present study, a numerical algorithm of updating the solid volume fraction based on mixture theory has been developed. Finite element analysis of simple upsetting was carried out using the proposed algorithm to investigate the degree of macro-segregation according to friction conditions and compressive strain rates under the isothermal condition. The simulation results were compared to experimental results available in reference to test the validity of the currently proposed algorithm. Since the comparison results show a good agreement it is construed that the proposed algorithm can contribute to the development of numerical analysis of determining the solid volume fraction semi-solid processing.

  • This paper concerns an algorithm that combines line search and trust region step for nonlinear optimization problems. Unlike traditional trust region methods, we incorporate the Armijo line search technique into trust region method to solve the subproblem. In addition, the subproblem is solved accurately, but instead solved by inaccurate method. If a trial step is not accepted, our algorithm performs the Armijo line search from the failed point to find a suitable steplength. At each iteration, the subproblem is solved only one time. In contrast to interior methods, the optimal solution is derived by iterating from outside of the feasible region. In numerical experiment, we apply the algorithm to nonlinear portfolio optimization problems, primary numerical results are presented.

  • In the theory and the applications of Numerical Linear Algebra, the class of H-matrices is very important. In recent years, many appeared works have proposed iterative criterion for H-matrices. In this paper, we provide a new type of interleaved iterative algorithm, which is always convergent in finite steps for H-matrices and needs fewer iterations than those proposed in the related works, and a corresponding algorithm for general matrix, which eliminates the redundant computations when the given matrix is not an H-matrix. Finally, several numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

  • A numerical procedure for the calculation of solidification and melting phase change using PISO algorithm is presented. In case of phase change problem, the coupling between velocity/pressure/temperature and liquid fraction is important. The converged temperature and liquid fraction solution which satisfies the energy balance is acquired by applying enthalpy method into inner iteration in matrix solver. And a modified PISO algorithm version is introduced to properly solve the coupling between velocity/pressure/temperature and liquid fraction. A comparison of the proposed procedure with a standard iterative method shows improvement both in terms of computing speed and robustness.

  • A well-known pressure correction method, a SIMPLE algorithm is extended to treat compressible flows. Collocated grids are used and density is linked to pressure via an equation of state. The influence of pressure on density in the case of compressible flows is implicitly incorporated into the extended SIMPLE algorithm. The first-order Upwind and high-order Quick scheme are compared with respect to an accuracy and convergence time at all speeds. The extended method is verified on a number of test cases and the results we compared with other numerical results available in the literature. The calculated results show that the Quick scheme improves accuracy at all speed and also reduces the calculation time at supersonic flows, compared with the Upwind scheme.

  • An application of the constrained adaptive topology optimization (CATO) algorithm is described for three-dimensional topology optimization of engineering structures. The enhanced assumed strain lower order solid finite element (FE) is used to evaluate the values of objective and constraint functions required in optimization process. The strain energy (SE) terms such as elastic and modal SEs are employed as the objective function to be minimized and the initial volume of structures is introduced as the constraint function. The SIMP model is adopted to facilitate the material redistribution and also to produce clearer and more distinct structural topologies. The linearly weighted objective function is introduced to consider both static and dynamic characteristics of structures. Several numerical tests are tackled and it is used to investigate the performance of the proposed three-dimensional topology optimization process. From numerical results, it is found to be that the CATO algorithm is easy to implement and extremely applicable to produce the reasonable optimum topologies for three dimensional optimization problems.
