  • Static and cyclic fatigue tests were carried out for alumina specimen to study the statistical analyses (normal, lognormal and Weibull distribution) of fatigue lifetime data and nominal initial crack length data. Fatigue lifetime data followed Weibull distribution better than normal or lognormal distribution, for the shape parameter of the notched specimen was larger than that of the unnotched specimen. The nominal initial crack length data obtained from fatigue lifetime followed the lognormal and Weibull distribution better than normal distribution, for the coefficient of variation of the unnotched specimen was larger than that of the notched specimen, and shape parameter of unnotched specimen was smaller than that of the notched specimen.

  • An algorithm to determine the optimum nominal value of geometrical and material parameters in divice modelling is proposed. The algorithm uses the yield and variance prediction formula and Monte-Carlo analysis. The performance specification of the noise figure must also be satisfied. In this paper, the total number of considered devices is 1000, and each parameter of geometrical and material parameters is generated randomly within the limits of ${\pm}3%$ of nominal value, and the distribution of 1000 geometrical and material parameters is gaussing distribution.

  • This paper proposes a modified adaptive sliding mode control which improve the performance by making the system follow the nominal trajectories controlled by nominal controller. This method is used for the system with unknown parameter uncertainty and bounded uncertainties.

  • Using Power Spectrum Analysis, conditions of parameter convergence for a Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) system are described. The general Persistent Excitation (PE) condition given in time domain can be transformed to the positiveness of auto-correlation matrix which is represented in frequency domain by the spectra of reference input signal. For an MRAC system designed with relative degree one, the existence and the uniqueness of parameter nominal values due to the variation of input spectra can be analyzed by the PE condition in frequency domain. If the input signal has 2n spectra or more, it can be shown that the nominal values exist independent of adaptive gain, input amplitudes, and magnitudes or numbers of their spectra.

  • This paper investigates the problem of stability analysis and robust H controller for time-delayed systems with parameter uncertainties and stochastic disturbances. It is assumed parameter uncertainties are norm bounded and mean and variance for disturbances of them are known. Firstly, by constructing a newly augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a stability criterion for nominal systems with time-varying delays is derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Secondly, based on the result of stability analysis, a new controller design method is proposed for the nominal form of the systems. Finally, the proposed method is extended to the problem of robust H controller design for a time-delayed system with parameter uncertainties and stochastic disturbances. To show the validity and effectiveness of the presented criteria, three examples are included.

  • In this paper, some algorithms for robust stabilization of linerar time - invariant single - input - multi output (SIMO) systems subject to parameter perturbatations are presented. At first, the determination algorithm of the largest stable hypersphere in the parameter space of a given characteristic polynomial with its coefficient perturbations near some stable nominal values is presented. These algorithms iteratively enlarge the stability hypersph ere in plant parameter space and can be used to design a controller to stabilize a plant subject to givien range of parameter ecxursions.

  • Frequency is an important operating parameter for the protection, control, and stability of a power system. Thus, it must be maintained very close to its nominal frequency. Due to the sudden change in generation and loads or faults in a power system, however, frequency deviates from its nominal value. An accurate monitoring of the power frequency is essential for optimum operation and prevention of wide area blackout. Most conventional frequency estimation schemes are based on the DFT filter. In these schemes, the gain error could cause defects when the frequency deviates from the nominal value. We present an advanced frequency estimation technique using gain compensation to enhance the DFT filter-based technique. The proposed technique can reduce the gain error caused when the frequency deviates from the nominal value. Simulation studies are performed using both the data from EMTP-RV software and the user-defined arbitrary signals to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Results show that the proposed algorithm achieves good performance under both steady state tests and dynamic conditions.

  • The frequency is an important operation parameter for the control, protection, and stability of a power system. The frequency as a key index of power quality can be indicative of system abnormal conditions and disturbances. Due to the sudden change in generation and loads or faults in power system, the frequency is supposed to deviate from its nominal value. It is essential that the frequency must be maintained very close to its nominal frequency. An accurate monitoring of the power frequency is essential to optimal operation and prevention for wide area blackout. As most conventional frequency estimation schemes are based on DFT filter, it has been pointed out that the gain error could cause defects when the frequency is deviated from nominal value. This paper presents an advanced frequency estimation technique using gain compensation to improve the performance of DFT filter based techniques. To evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm, the 765kV T/L system in Korea is simulated by EMTP-RV software. The proposed technique can reduce the gain error caused when the power system frequency deviates from nominal value.

  • The technique is reported of identifying parameters in off-line process. The technique demands that closed-loop system consists of a reference and two-degree-of-freedom controllers (TDFC) in real process. A model process is the same as the real process except their parameters. Deviations are differences between the reference and the output of the plant or the model. The technique is based on minimizing identification error between the two deviations. The parameter differences between the plant and the model are characterized of mean value and of variance which are derived from the identification error. Consequently, the algorithm which identifies the unknown plant parameters is shown by minimizing the mean value and the variance, respectively, within double convergence loops. The technique is applied to course change of a ship. The plant deviation at the first trial is shown to occur in replacing the nominal parameters by the default parameters. The plant deviation at the second trial is shown to not occur in replacing the nominal parameters by the identified parameters. Hence, the identification technique is confirmed to be feasible in the real field.
