  • Sixty six patients who were operated as lung cancer during the period from Mar. 1991 to Sep. 1993 at the department of Thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, were reviewed retrospectively and the accuracy of regional lymph node in preoperative CT were compared with histopathologlc report obtained from operation. The age ranged from 30 to 72 years old (mean age : 56.5), and 51 patients were male and 15 patients were female. The author analysed the true positive, true negative, false positive and false negative and sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive index, negative predictive index and accuracy of each nodes. The result is that there were differences between seven nodal groups in specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive Index, negative predictive index and accuracy. The range of each nodal group is from 81.7 to 98.3% The nodes of the most poor accuracy are aortopulmonary area and hilar area.

  • A new class of finite elements is described for dealing with mesh gradation. The approach employs the moving least square (MLS) scheme to devise a class of elements with an arbitrary number of nodal points on the parental domain. This approach generally leads to elements with rational shape functions, which significantly extends the function space of the conventional finite element method. With a special choice of the nodal points and the base functions, the method results in useful elements with polynomial shape functions for which the $C^1$ continuity breaks down across the boundaries between the subdomains comprising one element. Among those, (4 + n)-noded MLS based finite elements possess the generality to be connected with an arbitrary number of linear elements at a side of a given element. It enables us to connect one finite element with a few finite elements without complex remeshing. The effectiveness of the new elements is demonstrated via appropriate numerical examples.

  • Consider the problem $-div($\mid$\bigtriangledown_u$\mid$^{p-2}\bigtriangledown_u) = $\mid$u$\mid$^{p^*-2}u + \lambda$\mid$u$\mid$^{q-2}u$ in B, u = 0 on $\partial B$; where $B \subset R^n$ is a ball, $\lambda < 0, 1 < p < n$ and $p^* = \frac{np}{n-p}$ is the critical Sobolev exponent. For given $\lambda > 0$, we show that there exists $k = k(\lambda) \in N$ such that any radial solutions to this problem have at most k noda curves when $p \leq q \leq p^* - 1$.

  • The loads and resistances are random in nature. It Is thus necessary to consider these variabilities for more reasonable and reliable structural analysis. The purpose of the present study is to develop a stochastic finite element program which can analyze plane structures. The model requires only the means, standard deviations and distribution types of the load and resistance varualbes. This model can determine from the analysis the means and standard deviations of nodal displacement for all nodal points. The implemention results show good agreement at 10% significant level with the simulation results, if material properties and load conditions fallow the normal distribution.

  • A preconditioning algorithm is developed in this paper for the iterative solution of the linear system of equations resulting from the p-version boundary element approximation of the three dimensional integral equation with hypersingular operators. The preconditioner is derived by first making the nodal and side basis functions locally orthogonal to the element internal bases, and then by decoupling the nodal and side bases from the internal bases. Its implementation consists of solving a global problem on the wire-basket and a series of local problems defined on a single element. Moreover, the condition number of the preconditioned system is shown to be of order $O((1+ln/p)^{7})$. This technique can be applied to discretization with triangular elements and with general basis functions.

  • The microstructure and conduction characteristics of ZnO varistor fabricated in the range of 0.0 ~ 4.0mol% $Y_20_3$ were investigated. With increasing$Y_20_3$ content, distribution of spinel phase decreased, whereas Y-rich phase segregated to the nodal point increased, as a result, the average grain size decreased in the range of $20.0 ~ 4.8{\mu}m$. $Y_20_3$ content showing relatively good conduction characteristics was l.Omol%, then nonlinear exponent and leakage current was 55.3, 0.66mA.respectively.

  • This Paper illustrates a method for evaluating nodal probabilistic production cost using the CMELDC. A new method for constructing CMELDC(CoMposite Power System Equivalent Load Duration Curve) has been developed by authors. The CMELDC can be obtained by convolution integral processing between the probability distribution functions of the fictitious generators outage capacity and the load duration curves at each load point. In general, if complex operating conditions are involved and/or the number of severe events is relatively large, Monte Carlo methods are more efficient. Because of that reason, Monte Carlo Methods are applied for the construction of CMELDC in this study. And IEEE-RTS 24 buses model is used as our case study with satisfactory results.

  • This paper presents a optimal power flow calculation algorithm considering voltage and transient stability. In this method, voltage stability margin and transient stability constraints is incorporated into a optimal power flow calculation formulation to guarantee adequate voltage and transient security levels in power system. In addition, this paper provides the Effect of Nodal Price and decomposed Element in Power System Operation. This Effect can be applied in the Estimation of Electric rates because the Electric market will be Competitive Market. The proposed method is applied to IEEE-24 Reliability Test System and the results shows the effectiveness of the method.

  • LMP based pricing system has many merits over SMP. One of them is that network congestion can be managed by the market price together with congestion revenue rights. Korean power system has a peculiar property that the transmission line where network congestion occurs is known and does not vary. For such a system, zonal pricing method is considered to be appropriate as it is simpler than nodal pricing. In this paper, we did feasibility study on zone grouping method and tendency of zonal price compared with nodal price.

  • The Oktalok nodal connection system is an aesthetic and efficient system. It has been widely used throughout Australia. The paper will briefly introduce the concept and application of the Oktalok nodal system. The existing design method is based on the assumption that the joints are pin-ended, i.e., the rotational stiffness of the joints is zero. However the ultimate capacity of the frame may increase significantly depending on the rotational stiffness of the joints. Stiffness tests and finite element simulations were carried out to determine the rotational stiffness of the Oktalok joints. Column buckling tests and non-linear finite element analyses were performed to determine the member capacity of columns with semi-rigid end conditions. A simple formulae for the effective length factor of column buckling is derived based on the above experimental and theoretical investigations.
