RSNT-cFastICA for Complex-Valued Noncircular Signals in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • This paper presents an architecture for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with blind source separation (BSS) applied to retrieve the received mixing signals of the sink nodes first. The little-to-no need of prior knowledge about the source signals of the sink nodes in the BSS method is obviously advantageous for WSNs. The optimization problem of the BSS of multiple independent source signals with complex and noncircular distributions from observed sensor nodes is considered and addressed. This paper applies Castella's reference-based scheme to Novey's negentropy-based algorithms, and then proposes a novel fast fixed-point (FastICA) algorithm, defined as the reference-signal negentropy complex FastICA (RSNT-cFastICA) for complex-valued noncircular-distribution source signals. The proposed method for the sink nodes is substantially more efficient than Novey's quasi-Newton algorithm in terms of computational speed under large numbers of samples, can effectively improve the power consumption effeciency of the sink nodes, and is significantly beneficial for WSNs and wireless communication networks (WCNs). The effectiveness and performance of the proposed method are validated and compared with three related BSS algorithms through theoretical analysis and simulations.

협조제어에 의한 2축 연속 회전시스템의 고정도 위치동기 제어 (Precise Position Synchronous Control of Two Axes Rotating Systems by Cooperative Control)

  • This paper deals with a precise position synchronous control by a cooperative control method of two axes rotating systems. First, the system's dynamics including motor drives described by a motor circuit equation and Newton's kinetic formulation about rotating system. Next, based on conventional PID(Proportional, Integral, Derivative) control law, current and speed controller are designed very simply to follow up reference speed correctly under some disturbances. Also, position synchronous controller designed to minimize position errors according to integration of speed errors between two motors. Then, the proposed control enables the distributed drives by a software control algorithm to behave in a way as if they are mechanically hard coupled in axes. Further, the stabilities and robustness or the proposed system are investigated. Finally, the proposed system presented here is shown to be more precise position synchronous motion than conventional systems through some simulations and experiments.

Numerical convergence and validation of the DIMP inverse particle transport model

  • The data integration with modeled predictions (DIMP) model is a promising inverse radiation transport method for solving the special nuclear material (SNM) holdup problem. Unlike previous methods, DIMP is a completely passive nondestructive assay technique that requires no initial assumptions regarding the source distribution or active measurement time. DIMP predicts the most probable source location and distribution through Bayesian inference and quasi-Newtonian optimization of predicted detector responses (using the adjoint transport solution) with measured responses. DIMP performs well with forward hemispherical collimation and unshielded measurements, but several considerations are required when using narrow-view collimated detectors. DIMP converged well to the correct source distribution as the number of synthetic responses increased. DIMP also performed well for the first experimental validation exercise after applying a collimation factor, and sufficiently reducing the source search volume's extent to prevent the optimizer from getting stuck in local minima. DIMP's simple point detector response function (DRF) is being improved to address coplanar false positive/negative responses, and an angular DRF is being considered for integration with the next version of DIMP to account for highly collimated responses. Overall, DIMP shows promise for solving the SNM holdup inverse problem, especially once an improved optimization algorithm is implemented.

Large deflection analysis of laminated composite plates using layerwise displacement model

  • In this paper the geometrically nonlinear continuum plate finite element model, hitherto not reported in the literature, is developed using the total Lagrange formulation. With the layerwise displacement field of Reddy, nonlinear Green-Lagrange small strain large displacements relations (in the von Karman sense) and linear elastic orthotropic material properties for each lamina, the 3D elasticity equations are reduced to 2D problem and the nonlinear equilibrium integral form is obtained. By performing the linearization on nonlinear integral form and then the discretization on linearized integral form, tangent stiffness matrix is obtained with less manipulation and in more consistent form, compared to the one obtained using laminated element approach. Symmetric tangent stiffness matrixes, together with internal force vector are then utilized in Newton Raphson's method for the numerical solution of nonlinear incremental finite element equilibrium equations. Despite of its complex layer dependent numerical nature, the present model has no shear locking problems, compared to ESL (Equivalent Single Layer) models, or aspect ratio problems, as the 3D finite element may have when analyzing thin plate behavior. The originally coded MATLAB computer program for the finite element solution is used to verify the accuracy of the numerical model, by calculating nonlinear response of plates with different mechanical properties, which are isotropic, orthotropic and anisotropic (cross ply and angle ply), different plate thickness, different boundary conditions and different load direction (unloading/loading). The obtained results are compared with available results from the literature and the linear solutions from the author's previous papers.

Molecular dynamics studies of interaction between hydrogenand carbon nano-carriers

  • In this work, quantum molecular dynamics simulations (QMD) are preformed to study the hydrogen molecules in three types of carbon nanostructures, $C_{60}$ fullerene, (5,5) and (9,0) carbon nanotubes and graphene layers. Interactions between hydrogen and the nanostructures is of importance to understand hydrogen storage for the development of hydrogen economy. The QMD method overcomes the difficulties with empirical interatomic potentials to model the interaction among hydrogen and carbon atoms in the confined geometry. In QMD, the interatomic forces are calculated by solving the Schrodinger's equation with the density functional theory (DFT) formulation, and the positions of the atomic nucleus are calculated with the Newton's second law in accordance with the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. It is found that the number of hydrogen atoms that is less than 58 can be stored in the $C_{60}$ fullerene. With larger carbon fullerenes, more hydrogen may be stored. For hydrogen molecules passing though the fullerene, a particular orientation is required to obtain least energy barrier. For carbon nanotubes and graphene, adsorption may adhere hydrogen atoms to carbon atoms. In addition, hydrogen molecules can also be stored inside the nanotubes or between the adjacent layers in graphite, multi-layer graphene.

Nonlinear bending and post-buckling behaviors of FG small-scaled plates based on modified strain gradient theory using Ritz technique

  • In the present article, functionally graded small-scaled plates based on modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) are studied for analyzing the nonlinear bending and post-buckling responses. Von-Karman's assumptions are applied to incorporate geometric nonlinearity and the first-order shear deformation theory is used to model the plates. Modified strain gradient theory includes three length scale parameters and is reduced to the modified couple stress theory (MCST) and the classical theory (CT) if two or all three length scale parameters become zero, respectively. The Ritz method with Legendre polynomials are used to approximate the unknown displacement fields. The solution is found by the minimization of the total potential energy and the well-known Newton-Raphson technique is used to solve the nonlinear system of equations. In addition, numerical results for the functionally graded small-scaled plates are obtained and the effects of different boundary conditions, material gradient index, thickness to length scale parameter and length to thickness ratio of the plates on nonlinear bending and post-buckling responses are investigated and discussed.

유한요소법에 의한 호소의 수질예측모형;삽교 담수호에 적용하여 (Water Quality Prediction Model in a Lake by Finite Element Method;Application to Sapkyo Lake)

  • 본 연구는 호소의 2차원 수질해석을 위해 흐름의 기본 방정식과 확산이송 방정식에 유한요소법을 도입하여 모의한 것으로, 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 1.단순화된 1차원 수로에서의 모형검정 결과 수치해와 정확해가 거의 일치하므로 모형의 알고리즘이 잘 구성 되었음이 입증되며, 적용결과 실측치와의 비교에서도 만족할만한 결과가 도출되어 모형의 적용 가능성이 시사되었다. 2. 삽교호의 BOD, COD, T-N, T-P, 및 SS의 농도분포가 2차원적으로 해석되었다. 3. 비점오염원의 비중이 높아 오염부하량 산정이 어려운 T-N, T-P를 사용하지 않고 COD를 모의 하므로서 부영양상태를 예측할 수 있도록 하였다. 본 연구결과는 하구언 및 방조제 등으로 인한 호수와 같이 수심에 비해 폭이 넓은 자연수역의 수질 해석에 적용될 수 있으며 이를 활용하므로서 용수취수지점의 선택, 하천 방류수의 처리기준 선정등, 수자원의 효율적인 이용 관리와 수질 대책 수립에 이용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

사장교의 최적 초기형상 및 무응력길이 결정을 위한 간략해석법 (A Simplified Analysis Method for Determining an Optimized Initial Shape of Cable-Stayed Bridges)

  • 고정하중을 받는 사장교의 최적 초기형상 결정을 위한 간략해석법을 제시한다. 이 방법은 비선형 유한요소 해석을 수행하지 않고 최적의 초기형상을 구현할 수 있으며, 최소의 휨모멘트를 발생시키는 무응력길이를 제공한다. 초기형상 해석 후 여타의 하중조합 또는 시공단계해석을 수행하기 위해 무응력길이를 변화시키지 않고 Newton-Raphson 반복법을 수행하는 무응력길이법을 이용한다. 수치예제는 제작캠버를 포함한 인천대교 2차원 모델이며, 제시된 해석법과 상용 유한요소해석 프로그램 MIDAS의 초기형상 해석결과를 비교 분석한다. 주로 케이블의 장력과 주부재의 휨모멘트 및 변위를 관찰하였으며, 두 해석결과는 축방향 변위를 제외하고 모든 결과 값이 서로 잘 일치함을 확인할 수 있었다.

금형두께에 대한 1차 구조해석 결과를 기반으로 한 2차 최적화 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Secondary Optimization Analysis based on the Result of Primary Structure Analysis for the Die Thickness)

  • 기존의 구조해석은 탄성해석을 일반적으로 실무에서 주축으로 해왔다. 때문에 보다 정밀한 해석을 위하여 재료와 기하학적인 비선형을 고려한 해석의 필요성이 끊임없이 대두되어 왔다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 간단한 모델을 제작하여 비선형 원리를 적용한 최적화를 수행하여 기존의 구조해석의 경험자들은 누구나 용이하게 해석을 수행할 수 있는 이론과 방법을 제시하는데 있다. 본 연구에서 소개되는 모델은 금형 다이리브에 적용될 수 있도록 전단하중에 대하여 충분한 강도로 Strain, Stress가 적게 발생하게 하여, 초기에는 Strain, Stress가 크기에 맞게 형상을 재구성하고 Hyperstudy와 Abaqus 연동에 의한 비선형으로 해석하고 제품에서 허용되는 최대, 최소 Stress 범위와 최소 Strain을 갖는 조건하에서 일정한 증가치를 만들게 하였다. 실험 모델에서 Plate 두께가 40 Newton의 힘으로 주어질 때 Iteration 처리로 금형 두께에 따른 Stress와 Strain에 대한 금형두께에 적용하고자 했을 때 7~8mm 두께가 최적화라는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.

원형휜에서 열전달 특성분석 (Heat transfer on annular fins with one-dimensional radiative and convective heat exchange)

  • 본 연구에서는 많은 실질적인 시스템에서, 많은 양의 복합된 전도, 대류, 복 사의 열전달 현상이 동시에 일어나기 때문에 복합된 열전달 모드가 다같이 다루어져야 만 한다. Fig.1에서 보는 바와 같이 얇은 원형휜이 튜브 주위에 무수히 부착되어 있 으며, 휜과 튜브주위를 기체가 흐르고 있다. 휜과 휜, 휜과 튜브표면, 휜과 주위환 경, 튜브표면과 주위환경 사이에서 복사 열전달 상호교환이 충분히 다루어졌다. 전 도, 대류, 복사기 동시에 일어나는 열전달 방정식은 비선형 적분-미분 방정식(nonlin- ear integro-differential equation)으로 표현된다. 온도 분포도(temperature dist- ributions), 열전달량(heat transfer rates), 휜효율(fin efficiencies), 휜유효성(f- ineffectivenesses)등이 계산되어졌고, 무차원 형태로 도표에 결과들을 제시하였다.
