This paper reports our 9-year experience treating 34 infants with biliary atresia utilizing a new non-invasive diagnostic method, ultrasonographic "triangular cord"(TC) sign. The TC sign is present when there is visualization of a triangular or a band-like echogenicity just cranial to the portal vein. The ultrasonographic TC sign appears to be a simple, non-invasive, time-saving and useful tool in the diagnosis of biliary atresia. Sensitivity is 84 %. Active bile excretion was restored in 90 % of the patients who were treated between 31-60days, 78 % of those between 61-90 days, and 33 % of those being 91days or older. The incidence of postoperative cholangitis was 36 %. Construction of an antireflux valve in the Roux-en-Y loop did not affect the incidence of postoperative cholangitis(p=0.18). Among 34 infants with biliary atresia, 23(68 %) are alive for 2-102 months after operation, and 12 are alive for more than 5 years. Five-year estimate survival by Kaplan-Meier method was 66 %.

This study aims to overview research articles on extrasolar planets using Kepler mission data during the period of 2009-2015 in order to discover research trends in them. Kepler space observatory is a NASA space observatory for extrasolar planet expedition launched in March 2009, contributed to the discovery and tracking of extrasolar planets and its candidates. In order to achieve the goal of this study, we classified research subjects from studies on Kepler mission data year by year and found the most frequent research topics each year. We also conducted a comparative analysis on the research subjects based on time series and examined any changes with respect to the goal of Kepler mission. Statistical meta-analysis is employed as the analysis method for the key words presented in the research articles. This study is a part of on-going research to find the correlation between the physical parameters of the host star and extrasolar planets. The results of this study could offer new directions in researches utilizing Kepler mission data as those meta-analyses in social sciences often suggest new opportunities. We have high expectations that more extrasolar planet studies will follow as we make further progresses in various analyses.

After Yeungnam University's College of Medicine was established in 1979, the curriculum for a preclinical medical education course was developed and implemented. Several modifications have since been made to the curriculum which was driven by changes in national policies and in the medical education environment. In recent years, it has become necessary to complement the weaknesses or shortcomings in the curriculum that were discovered during the basic medical education assessment process of the medical college. Since 2009, Yeungnam University has run two medical courses: a 6-year college of medicine course and a 4-year medical school course. However, as a result of changes in national policy, Yeungnam University decided to offer only the 6-year college of medicine course with an entirely new curriculum which will be implemented in 2017. The new curriculum for the preclinical medical education course consists of 36 credits of cultural essentials courses, 44 credits of major required courses, and 2 credits of major elective courses. The curriculum development requires the support of the university and/or college, the ensured independence of the curriculum development organization, and the cooperation and attention of fellow professors. Continuous efforts are needed to check, evaluate, and improve the curriculum.

The Typical Meteorological Year (TMY) dataset compiles 12 months of data that best represent long-term climate patterns, focusing on global horizontal irradiance and other weather-related variables. However, the irradiance measured on the plane of the array (POA) shows certain distinct distribution characteristics compared with the irradiance in the TMY dataset, and this may introduce some biases. Our research recalculated POA irradiance using both the Isotropic and DIRINT models, generating an updated dataset that was tailored to POA characteristics. Our analysis showed a 28% change in the selection of typical meteorological months, an 8% increase in average irradiance, and a 40% reduction in the range of irradiance values, thus indicating a significant shift in irradiance distribution patterns. This research aims to inform stakeholders about accurate use of TMY datasets in potential decision-making. These findings underscore the necessity of creating a typical dataset by using the time series of POA irradiance, which represents the orientation in which PV panels will be deployed.

Although it is difficult to predict the future engineers, including optical engineers, must do it on a regular basis. After all, what is the generation of a new optical design, but an attempt to predict what will be needed next year\ulcorner But optical engineers do not consult oracles or look into crystal balls, instead they look at past history, new research, and the trends in technology. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the satisfaction of newly graduated nurses with educational programs and their experiences in role transition. Methods: Data were collected from November 1 to December 15, 2018 and 483 new graduate nurses working at 15 tertiary hospitals and 10 general hospitals participated. For data collection, self-report questionnaires including the Casey-Fink Graduate Nurse Experience Survey tool and satisfaction with education were used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. Results: Satisfaction with education ranged from 3.09 to 3.27, and satisfaction with preceptors was 3.45(maximum 4). The skill that new nurses ranked as most difficult during the first 3 months was charting/documentation, and throughout a whole year, the top 4 difficult skills were cardiopulmonary resuscitation/emergency response, ventilator care, end-of-life care, and prioritization/time management. In comfort/confidence, new graduates felt most comfortable with support and least comfortable with patient safety. More than 50 percent of new graduates experienced stress during role transition, and the most frequently experienced stressors were related to job performance and personal life. Levels of satisfaction with education and comfort/confidence differed according to the hospital type and number of preceptors for new nurses. Conclusion: In order to facilitate the transition of new graduate nurses to professional nurse, an extended period of education, systematic and standardized transition programs, and continuous support during the first year of practice are required.
