  • Network management is composed of five major functional areas, fault, configuration, account, performance and security management in the ITU standards. Configuration management identifies, exercises control over, collects data from network element node system and provides data to the management systems. The proposed architecture is designed based on the Distributed Processing Environment of CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) Spec v2.3. In this paper, configuration management system has been designed and implemented with layered managed object. It provides that integrated management of various data link layer technology. We suggest MIB(Management Information Base)/MIT(Management Information Tree) to support integrated management and distributed environment.

  • This paper suggests a contingent perspective for analyzing information systems issues of the Korean firms. The contingent perspective includes such corporate characteristics as industry, organizational size, strategy, and value-added application function. This research surveyed 119 corporations in manufacturing, banking, distribution, and construction industries. Among those samples 104 data of corporate IS managers turned out to be statistically valid. As a result, those issues are ranked as the most urgent and important IS issues: strategic IS planning, system integration, application of database, process standardization, and network planning and implementation. Furthermore, factor analysis says that thirty issues to be surveyed are to be grouped into seven factors such as IS planning, user/education, database, applications of IT, system management, distributed computing technology, and network applications. It also found through Pearson correlation and ANOVA that organizational characteristics highly influences the IS issues the corporations face.

  • In distributed object oriented environment based upon wide heterogeneous network, effective cooperation policies between/among distributed objects are needed to resolve a complexity of management of distributed objects because of growing of a large stale of systems. Thus, in this paper, we propose three trading cooperation models between/among traders for supporting a high speed and a wide selection of trader service for clients, by considering three different cooperation models(light weight trader, simple negotiation and federation) depending upon their facilities, goals, and weights of goals.

  • As the scale of broadcasting systems gets bigger and the functionality of broadcasting devices becomes diverse, networking facilities are being incorporated within recent broadcasting devices. Although networked devices can perform many of the additional functionalities, an effective management becomes a difficult issue. Therefore, it is essential to provide an automated management system for monitoring and controlling distributed broadcasting devices across a network. SNMP (Simple Network Management System) is one of the enabling technologies that we could adopt when we build such a system. However, SNMP-based solution has its limitations. In this paper. we propose the TMS800 system, which is a metadata-based device management system on top of SNMP framework. The system is specifically designed for the management of distributed broadcasting devices. It makes it possible to monitor not only the status of devices, but also the videos in the form of still images. Remote control and real-time notification facilities are also provided.

  • This paper examines the problems of database partitioning and file allocation in a fixed topology distributed computer network. The design objective is to make files as collections of attributes and to allocate these files to network nodes so that a minimum total transmission cost is achieved subject to storage capacity constraints. A mathematical model for solving the problem is formulated and, the resulting optimization problem is shown to fall in a class of NP-complete problems. A new heuristic algorithm is developed which uses the idea of allocating attributes according to the transaction requirements at each computer node and then making files using the allocated attributes. Numerical results indicate that the heuristic algorithm yields practicable low cost solutions in comparison with the existing methods which deal with the file allocation problems and database partitioning problems independently.

  • As network has high speed and wide communication capability, users demand diverse and new software to satisfy their needs. To meet users needs, the softwares for multimedia or groupware or distributed virtual environments can communicate the widely distributed information fast and accurately. Even though the technology for this is under development, it is deficient to support the reliable computer communication. Distributed Object System aims, as the new paradigm of distributed system software development to overcome this problem, to obtain in distributed environment the easiness of development and management, expandability, reusability which object oriented technologies support by solving the complexity of communication processing through the object oriented methods. This paper aims to introduce distributed object system, its technological properties and the current status and trend of technology development related to its standardization. Additionally, with explaining the Replicated Shared Object System(RSOS) which is developed in our country as one of the distributed object systems, its future prospects and technical issues are discussed.

  • Fieldbus is the lowest level communication network in factory automation and process control systems. Performance of factory automation and process control systems is directly affected by the data delay induced by network traffic. Data generated from several distributed field devices can be largely divided into three categories: sporadic real-time, periodic real-time and non real-time data. Since these data share one fieldbus network medium, the limited bandwidth of a fieldbus network must be appropriately allocated to the sporadic real-time, periodic real-time and non real-time traffic. This paper introduces a new fieldbus design scheme which allocates the limited bandwidth of fieldbus network to several different kinds of traffic. The design scheme introduced in this study not only satisfies the performance requirements of application systems interconnected into the fieldbus but also fully utilizes the network resources. The design scheme introduced in this study can be applicable to cyclic service protocols operated under single-service discipline. The bandwidth allocation scheme introduced in this study is verified using a discrete-event/continuous-time simulation experiment.

  • In this paper, we propose the integrated security management framework supporting the trust for the ubiquitous environments. The proposed framework provides the gathering and analysis of the security related information including the location of mobile device and then dynamically configures the security policy and adopts them. More specially, it supports the authentication and delegation service to support the trusted security management for the ubiquitous networks. This system also provides the visible management tools to give the convenient view for network administrator.

  • We consider the design of a two-level telecommunication network having logical full-mesh/star topology, with the implementation of conduit systems taken together. The design problem is then viewed as consisting of three subproblems: locating hub facilities, placing a conduit network, and installing cables therein to configure the logical full-mesh/star network. Without partitioning into subproblems as done in the conventional approach, the whole problem is directly dealt with in a single integrated framework, inspired by some recent successes with the approach. We successfully formulate the problem as a variant of the classical multicommodity flow model for the fixed charge network design problem, aided by network augmentation, judicious commodity definition, and some flow restrictions. With our optimal model, we solve some randomly generated sample problems by using CPLEX MIP program. From the computational experiments, it seems that our model can be applied to the practical problem effectively.
