This study is to evaluate contamination of the 3-way stopcocks connected to infusion set, which is used to the patients admitted to emergency room in a general hospital in D city. The data were collected from Oct. 1, 2001 to Feb. 25, 2002. First of all, in order to select microorganisms, From the 50 patients were randomized, Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, micrococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter detected. Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, micrococcus were determined to be evaluated in this study. As a result, 8 of the patients were Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus positive(>15 colonies), 4 were Staphylococcus aureus positive(>15 colonies). 1 was micrococcus positive(>15 colonies). Among the patients who were Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus positive 112(average) colonies were detected on the first day, 429 were on the second day, and 563 were on the third day. In case of patients of Staphylococcus aureus positive, 85(average) colonies were detected on the first day, 151 were on the second day, and the 203 were on the third day. CNS was cultured using API kit for the 8 patients who were in CNS positive. One case was detected Staphylococcus capitis, another one case was Staphylococcus chromogenes. Two cases were Staphylococcus xylosus, another two were Staphylococcus hominis, and the remainer were Staphylococcus epidermidis. As a result, the API codes of two Staphylococcus epidermidis had shown the same pattern, and the resistance patterns of the them were the same, too. As a result of resistance test among 5 patients who have shown that the same resistance pattern in 02SAK1, 02SAK5, 02SAK2, 02SAK4. As a result of this study, aseptic technique of 3-way stopcock intravenous therapy can protect infections, and it is needed the sterilization of the 3-way stopcock just before injection using disinfectants. It needs to improve the 3 way stopcock change intervals from 48 hours.
Objective : There has been no known report on the pain shock after administering Korean bee-venom therapy. Three accounts of pain shock were observed at the Sangji university affiliated Oriental medicine clinic from July 2001 through September 2001. This thesis will inform clinical progression and cautions on administering Korean bee-venom therapy. Methods: We were able to witness different patterns of pain shock during the treatment of degenerative knee joint, progressive oral paralysis, and A.L.S. In order to reduce heat toxicity of the bee venom, needling points were first massaged with the ice for 10 minutes before injecting $0.1{\sim}0.2cc$ of the bee venom. Points of injection were ST36, LI11, LI4 and others. Pain shock occurred after injecting on inner xi-an, outer xi-an and LI4. The phenomena associated with pain shock was recorded in chronological order and local changes were examined. Results: Through examining 3 patients with the pain shock, we managed to observe clinical progression, duration, and time linked changes on specific regions. We also managed to determine sensitive needling points for the pain shock. Conclution: Following results were obtained from 3 patients with the pain shock caused by Korean bee-venom therapy from July 2001 to September 2001. 1. Either positive or negative responses were shown after the pain shock. For case 1, extreme pain was accompanied with muscular convulsion and tremble, ocular hyperemia, delirium, stiffening of extremities, and hyper ventilation which all suggest positive responses. For case 2 and 3, extreme pain was accompanied with facial sweating, asthenia of extremities, pallor face, dizziness, weak voice, and sleepiness which are the signs of negative responses. 2. The time required to recover to stable state took nearly an hour (including sleeping time) and there was no side effect. 3. Precautions required to prevent the pain shock includes full concentration from the practitioner, accurate point location, precise amount of injection, physiological condition and psychological stability of the patient 4. Coping with the pain shock should be similar with a needle shock, and since extreme pain is accompanied, sufficient psychological rest must be provided. 5. Pain shock occurs because the patient cannot tolerate stimulation on the needling point. Thus, symptoms were similar to the needle shock in addition to excruciating pain. Further investigation and research must be done to have better understanding of an immune response and the pain shock associated with Korean bee-venom therapy.
Purpose: This study is designed to examine the effect of self-efficacy on stress-coping methods of health related and non-health related department college students. Method: A questionnaire survey was conducted on 533 students (268 health department and 265 non-health department) of health department and non-health department students at 1 university and 2 university in Gyeonggi-do, jeollabuk-do and jeollanam-do. Results: The results were statistically analyzed using SPSS 12.0, which made no statistically-significant difference among health and non-health students. The study on the effect of self-efficacy on stress-coping methods has revealed that both health and non-health department students showed statistically-significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and emotion-centered coping methods. Also, Social efficacy had negative correlation with social-supported coping methods. While non-health department students had statistically-significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and wishful coping. Conclusion: Accordingly, it has been revealed that self-efficacy is effective in stress-coping methods.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of body composition on IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living) of the elderly. This study consisted of male elder(n=50) and female elder(n=60). The average age of elder male and female was 73.79, 70.42 years. The data were analyzed with correlation test and regression test using SPSSWIN ver 10.1 and MINITAB program. Body composition was measured using InBody 3.0(seoul, korea) of Segmental Multifrequncy Bioelectical Impedance Analyzer technique. IADL was measured with Philadelphia Geriatric Center IADL. The result of this study were the following : A correlation of body composition between IADL. 1. Body composition of the elderly had effect on IADL. 1)The free fat mass(kg) and total body water(1) in Body composition of male elder had positive effect on IADL. 2)The WHR(waist-to-hip ratio %) in Body composition of male elder had negative effect on IADL.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the reason why puberphonia patients revisit hospitals after completion of its treatment and the effect of visual voice therapy on voice improvement. The subject the study included are two puberphonia patients who had been diagnosed by laryngologists. The patients who were diagnosed as puberphonia by the laryngologist and treated by the a speech pathologist, completed their treatment and revisited hospital. The study used laryngoscopy, acoustic and aerodynamic analysis before and after voice treatment to investigate what change happens and why generalization of treatment effect did not occur naturally in the daily life. Their voices of pre-therapy and post-therapy were analyzed on the aspects of acoustics, aerodynamics and laryngeal endoscopy. As a result, it was found that fundamental frequency(Fo) was significantly lowered in respect of acoustic change and maximum phonation time(MPT) was increased to some extent in respect of aerodynamic change. In addition, there was a laryngoscopic change and commissure glottic chink disappeared generally in the phonation. The reason why the generalization did not occur naturally in one’s daily routine was mainly due to the fact that high-pitched voicing was used for a long time. Other than that reason, negative reaction or attitude of surrounding people and lack of confidence were to blame for failure of generalization.
In most of the medical literature that discusses the common problem of movement in patients with cerebral lesions. This critical problem is ascribed to a mechanism involving uninhibited neural activity. The goals of neurological physical therapy are focus on reduce of muscle hypertonicity, facilitates muscle activities, and improve of performance in living environment. A variety of studies suggest that spasticity is a distinct problem and separate from the muscle weakness. It has become increasingly recognized that the major functional deficits following brain damage are largely due to negative features such as muscle weakness and loss of performance rather than spasticity. Adequate recruitment of prime mover, not release was able to carry out the movement tasks well. The strengthening exercise of spastic limbs on changes in muscle properties and performance skill, the repeated motor practice has been identified as crucial for motor recovery. This article support the concept that strengthening is an appropriate intervention to improve the quality of physical function in patients with central nervous system lesions. Further studies and therapeutic approaches should be efforts at improving motor neuron recruitment in agonist rather than reducing activity in antagonists while retraining muscle strengthening.
Purpose : This study is to examine the effect of electrode size during transcranial direct current stimulation on hand function. Methods : By randomly assigning 26 right hand dominant subjects to two groups (I: carbon rubber electrode / II: disposable circular self-adhesive electrodes) with 13 subjects in each group depending on the electrode size, a positive electrodeof transcranial direct current stimulation was placed on the primary motor area (C4) and a negative electrode was placed on the left primary motor area (C3) and the stimulation was applied for 20 minutes.Hand function assessment before and after transcranial direct current stimulation were measured with JTT (Jebsen-Taylor hand function test). Results : According to hand function assessment by JTT, there were no interactions on both hands, and statistically significant differences according to time appeared in the main effect test. Conclusion : Regardless of the electrode size, it appears that transcranial direct current stimulation on the primary motor area activated hand function affected.
This Research has been made through the questionnaire(enquete) sent to parents whose children are under cerebral palsy treatment in the hospitals of Daejon, Daegu and Pusan area and in other social welfare organizations such as Korea C.P. Welfare institution and Social Welfare Corporation during the period of Februay to August 1997. Form this research, we have obtained following results : 1. Mostly, the blood type of parents of cerebral palsy children is "0" type in father side (24 persons : 30%) and "A" type in mother side(28 persons : 35%), 2. For their(parents) baby-delivery, it shows that the nature delivery was adoped in most cases i. e. 50 persons(62.5%). 3. The birth weight of cerebral palsy children appears to be less than 2.4Kg in most cases(24 persons : 30%) 4. Most of parents positively want to take a medical treatment for their children with hope, but parents of 5 patients(6.3%) have a negative attitude against medical treatment and its cure. 5. Parents of 25 patients (31.7%) appear to have a sense of shame about the fact that their children are C.P. patients. 6. The 65 parents(81.3%) are depending on medical treatment and physical therapy as a means of cure.
An excessive Q-angle has been implicated in the development of knee injuries by altering the lower-extremity locomotion kinematics. The purpose of this study was performed to examine the correlation between the Q-angle and the CTA during pronation and supination of the foot in the standing status. The participants of this examination were 60 adult(30 men and 30 women) who had no orthopaedic and neurological impairment, aged between 20 and 40years. The foot tilt(FT1)is made of acrylic plate and the slope of the surface is altered as $0^{\circ}$ pronation$(10^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ})$ and supination $(10^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ})$. The results were as follows : 1. The result about the Q-angle and the CTA by comparing pronation and supination of the foot There was statistical significance difference in the left /right Q-angle and the left/right CTA with pronation and supination of the foot(P<0.05). 2. The result about correlation in the left /right lower-extremity There were positive correlation between the right Q-angle and the right CTA and negative correlation except the supination$(30^{\circ})$ between the left Q-angle and the left CTA.
