Efficient Exponentiation in Extensions of Finite Fields without Fast Frobenius Mappings

  • This paper proposes an exponentiation method with Frobenius mappings. The main target is an exponentiation in an extension field. This idea can be applied for scalar multiplication of a rational point of an elliptic curve defined over an extension field. The proposed method is closely related to so-called interleaving exponentiation. Unlike interleaving exponentiation methods, it can carry out several exponentiations of the same base at once. This happens in some pairing-based applications. The efficiency of using Frobenius mappings for exponentiation in an extension field was well demonstrated by Avanzi and Mihailescu. Their exponentiation method efficiently decreases the number of multiplications by inversely using many Frobenius mappings. Compared to their method, although the number of multiplications needed for the proposed method increases about 20%, the number of Frobenius mappings becomes small. The proposed method is efficient for cases in which Frobenius mapping cannot be carried out quickly.

원형 실린더가 존재하는 사각형 실린더 내부의 자연대류에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study of Natural Convection in a Square Enclosure with a Circular Cylinder at Different Vertical Locations)

  • Numerical calculations are carried out for the natural convection induced by temperature difference between a cold outer square cylinder and a hot inner circular cylinder. A two-dimensional solution for unsteady natural convection is obtained, using the immersed boundary method (IBM) to model an inner circular cylinder based on finite volume method, for different Rayleigh numbers varying over the range of $10^4\;to\;10^6$. The study goes further to investigate the effect of an inner cylinder location on the heat transfer and fluid flow. The location of inner circular cylinder is changed vertically along the center-line of square enclosure. The number, size and formation of cell strongly depend on Rayleigh number and the position of inner circular cylinder. The changes in heat transfer quantities have been presented.

북한산국립공원의 탐방객 수와 훼손의 상관관계 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between the Number of Visitors and Degradation of Natural Resources in Bukhansan National Park)

  • This study aims to understand the relationship between visitors and the degradation of natural resources in Bukhansan national park. We analyzed the trend of the number of visitors, destruction of natural resources and decrease of biodiversity per year. We further compared three types of trails, heavily-used trails and rarely-used trails and a trail with limited access, regarding the degree of destruction in the National Park through a field survey. Our result showed that increasing number of visitors had direct and indirect impact on the destruction of natural resources in the National Park. The direct impact came from visitors' excessive use of trails. Naturally, increasing number of visitors caused an immoderate use of natural resources. Physical degradation such as exposure of tree root, poor drainage of trails, trail erosion was more severe than other types of trails. Decreasing biodiversity or mild disturbance around trails is the indirect impact such as broken bough, worn-bark in rarely-used trails. Destruction scale greatly increased as the number of visitors increased. Real-named reservation system helped to prevent trails from degradation. Our result calls for the need of controlling the number of visitors to Bukhansan National Park to mitigate the degradation. We recommend dispersing visitors from the heavily-used trails to other trails and implementing real-named reservation system in the rarely-used trails for the effective management of the national park.

NATURAL CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS IN A CANISTER WITH HORIZONTAL INSTALLATION OF DUAL PURPOSE CASK FOR SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL

  • A full-sized model for the horizontally oriented metal cask containing 21 spent fuel assemblies has been considered to evaluate the internal natural convection behavior within a dry shield canister (DSC) filled with helium as a working fluid. A variety of two-dimensional CFD numerical investigations using a turbulent model have been performed to evaluate the heat transfer characteristics and the velocity distribution of natural convection inside the canister. The present numerical solutions for a range of Rayleigh number values ($3{\times}10^6{\sim}3{\times}10^7$) and a working fluid of air are further validated by comparing with the experimental data from previous work, and they agreed well with the experimental results. The predicted temperature field has indicated that the peak temperature is located in the second basket from the top along the vertical center line by effects of the natural convection. As the Rayleigh number increases, the convective heat transfer is dominant and the heat transfer due to the local circulation becomes stronger. The heat transfer characteristics show that the Nusselt numbers corresponding to $1.5{\times}10^6$ < Ra < $1.0{\times}10^7$ are proportional to 0.5 power of the Rayleigh number, while the Nusselt numbers for $1.0{\times}10^7$ < Ra < $8.0{\times}10^7$ are proportional to 0.27 power of the Rayleigh number. These results agreed well with the trends of the experimental data for Ra > $1.0{\times}10^7$.

  • Finite element method has been applied to solve the fundamental governing equations of natural convective, electrically conducting, incompressible fluid flow past an infinite vertical plate surrounded by porous medium in presence of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, Soret and Dufour effects. In this research work, the results of coupled partial differential equations are found numerically by applying finite element technique. The sway of significant parameters such as Soret number, Dufour number, Grashof number for heat and mass transfer, Magnetic field parameter, Thermal radiation parameter, Permeability parameter on velocity, temperature and concentration evaluations in the boundary layer region are examined in detail and the results are shown in graphically. Furthermore, the effect of these parameters on local skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and Sherwood numbers is also investigated. A very good agreement is noticed between the present results and previous published works in some limiting cases.

  • 본 연구는 다양한 위치의 원형 실린더가 존재하는 사각 밀폐계에서 Prandtl 수 변화에 따른 밀폐계 내부의 자연대류 현상에 대한 수치해석을 수행하였다. Rayleigh 수가 $10^3$, $10^4$, $10^5$ 그리고 다양한 위치의 내부 원형 실린더에 대해서 Prandtl 수를 0.1, 0.7, 7 로 변화시키며 Prandtl 수의 영향을 분석하였다. 내부 원형 실린더의 위치는 -0.2 에서 0.2 까지 0.1 간격으로 변화시켰다. Prandtl 수의 변화에 따른 밀폐계 내부의 자연대류 현상은 밀폐계 내부의 온도장과 유동장 및 표면 평균 Nusselt 수의 분포를 바탕으로 분석하였다. Rayleigh 수가 $10^5$ 일 때 내부 실린더의 위치에 상관없이 Prandtl 수가 증가할수록 평균 Nusselt 수는 증가하였다.

천연물 신약 특허 동향 분석 (An analysis of natural products patents)

  • Objectives : This study aims to investigate the current situation of domestic patents in Korea on natural products and to provide directions for developing and applying herbal medicinal products by in-depth analyses. Methods : Combinations of words, such as "A61K" or "A61P", "herb" or "Korean medicinal herb" or "Korean medicine" or "traditional" or "natural" or "$botanic^*$" or "China", and "medicine" or "treatment" or "prevention" or "improvement", were used to search patents in the World Intellectual Property Service (WIPS) database. Three methods were applied to analyze natural products patents. First, the number of patent registrations was sorted by year. Second, the assignees were analyzed by count and country of origin. Finally, cluster map analysis was conducted to explore frequently emerging words in natural products and the relationship amongst those words to treat corresponding diseases/technologies. Results : Results showed that, first, the total number of patents had been increasing. Among the patents, 76.4% were registered by domestic institutes/companies, and 23.6% by foreign institutes/companies. Second, USA, Japan, and China possess a considerable number of Korean patents and, therefore, domestic institutes/companies can seek joint technological development opportunities with their counterparts from those countries in the future. Finally, a total of four clusters were identified by cluster map analysis. Each of the clusters includes natural products related to diseases involving skin, aging, and blood sugar, as well as adult diseases. Conclusions : In this study, natural products patents registered in the Korean Intellectual Property Office were analyzed. The analyses results showed the kinds of natural products that had been employed for the treatment of certain diseases. However, natural products included in existing patents were minimal given that 4,174 species of indigenous plants are found in Korea. Thus, Korean institutes/companies should utilize unexplored plants to develop more value-added drugs.

  • Three-dimensional heat transfer characteristics for natural convection flows are numerically investigated in the doubly-inclined cubical-cavity according to the variation of a newly defined orientation angle �� of the hot wall surface from horizontal plane at moderate Rayleigh numbers. Numerical simulations of laminar flows are conducted in the range of Rayleigh numbers($10^4{\leq}Ra{\leq}10^5$) and $0^{\circ}{\leq}{\alpha}90^{circ}$ with a solution code(PowerCFD) employing unstructured cell-centered method. Comparisons of the average Nusselt number at the cold face are made with benchmark solutions and experimental results found in the literature. It is found that the average Nusselt number at the cold wall has a maximum value around the specified orientation ${\alpha}$ at each Rayleigh number. Special attention is also paid to three-dimensional thermal characteristics in natural convection according to new orientation angles at Ra��= $1{\times}10^5$, in order to investigate a new additional heat transfer characteristic found in the range of above Ra = $6{\times}10^4$.

  • 본 연구는 수평전도관과 수평원통 사이의 환상공간에 수직격판이 부착된 경우와 수평직판이 부착된 경우에 Rayleigh수와 무차원 관열전도율을 변수로하여 수직해석과 Mach-Mehnder 간섭계를 이용한 실험으로 자연대류 열전달특성을 연구 하였다.
