Development of the LBS-based Water Service Information Service System (LBS 기반의 수도정보서비스시스템 개발)

  • Even though Korea's national project - NGIS(National Geographic Information System) has been built since 1995 and the GIS database for underground facilities has also been built, not so many systems are utilizing those databases currently. Also, the waterworks GIS developed and operated by K-Water is not used effectively in supporting field works. In order to manage and operate the waterworks pipelines effectively, systematic supporting strategy must be established by adopting the state-of-the-art technology. In this research, a ubiquitous-based strategy for managing waterworks facilities is proposed to increase the usability of the existing related databases and to ensure the systematic way of distributing information. The current status of the existing waterworks GIS and GIS database were analyzed to achieve the goal. By studying the state-of-the-art technology, we found that importing the LBS technology to the databases is necessary. The results of these efforts are exclusive waterworks-mobile-terminals and LBS system supporting them. Furthermore, the applicability of the ubiquitous technology to waterworks has been examined to realize the real-time waterworks management.

  • The national park should be preserved in accordance with the regulation, but the development planning or facilities management planning has not been faithful to the spirits of the regulation. Recently natural environment has been radically changed, and especially damaged by large scale development of Service Facilities Zone. Thus the effective land use planning of the national park is required. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose the alternative site for The Second Service Facilities Zone in Mt. Kyeryong National Park using the GIS, and to compare the alternative site with the existing development site. Site selection was based on Rules of Combination which covers topographic analysis, viewshod analysis, distance analysis from hot spring well, land use analysis, and forest stand analysis.

  • Transportation plays a vital role in sustainable development, and moreover, bulk transportation provides cost effective movement of goods and human beings with less environmental issues. Nepal is a developing country with increasing urbanization and transportation demands. The growing interest of China to connect with Southeast Asia through Nepal has led to ambitious project proposal of Rasuwa Gadhi to Birgunj Railways, which is the shortest route from China to India. Lack of updated geospatial data has lead the concerned authorities in Nepal to be dependent on analysis and proposals from donor nations. Taking such considerations, based on GIS and free data, this study explores optimal routes to connect cites using slope and land cover. Based on reclassified slope, two shortest optimal routes were found. One passing through Baireni in Dhading and another through Kathmandu towards Birgunj with length of around 172 Kilometers. The study shows that available open source data can be used of preliminary feasibility studies and yet shows limitations for detailed economy based planning. Development and use of high resolution updated geospatial data is of high necessity for Nepal to become self-sustained in planning of development works.

Assessment Analysis on Development Potential of the Clustered Settlements in the Released Green-Belt (개발제한구역 해제지역내 집단취락 개발잠재력 평가분석)

  • The study aimed to extract development potential on clustered settlements by deciding priority on extracting standardization points taking pure development indexes and future development conditions into account targeting clustered settlements released from green-belt in Gijang-gun, Busan. The study selected individual indexes on 4 areas on aspects of natural, physical, development, approach for objective and scientific analysis through Busan's GIS Data. The results showed that large clustered settlements near shores are areas with high development index value and evaluated as areas with high development potential, and smaller clustered settlements located inland near the west of National Road 14 showed that individual index values were lower thus evaluated as areas with lower development potential.

  • GPS(Global Positioning System) surveying is an effective method using satellite measurement system and can be applied to construction of digital map of irrigation canal networks. In this study, GPS surveying method for irrigation structures was developed. A selected main canal of an irrigation district were surveyed by GPS. The obtained surveying results were corrected by post-processed DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) and imported to GIS for the digital map construction.

  • Currently national High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) operating mechanism is made up of spring operating mechanism or hydraulic operating mechanism. On the contrary, advanced technology trend in foreign countries replace current mechanical mechanism with electrical motor-drive mechanism that leads to participate GIS bid and increase sales with the point of simplification of driving system and IT application. Therefor it is essential to develop high voltage GIS using the motor-drive system to develop national heavy electric machine industries and catch up the technology to the advanced level. This paper therefore presents design and analysis of permanent synchronous motor for high voltage GIS, verifies the performance by the experimental test.

  • It is necessary to construct an effective regional information system in facing the incoming information intensive society. Many local government in Korea began to recognize a need for constructing a GIS(Geographic Information System) and they are planning to construct GIS´s to improve their administrative efficiency. However, ti requires high-priced hardware, software, and an experienced operator to sue a GIS effectively. The purpose of this study is to develop the GIS program which can be sued with ease by common users. By developing a GIS functioned program using a coordinate recognition module by application of geo-spatial data, and a digital map which is already made, this program can be used efficiently only by only inputting attributes without high-priced hardware and software, and can be utilized easily to every purposes of work with geo-spatial data and attributes. MapObjects, mapping and GIS component, was employed to use geo-spatial data, and Access 97 from Microsoft to manage and attributes database. Visual Basic, objected-oriented language, was used to develop an application program. Results of this study were applied to constructing the Information system of Kanwon National University. This program could be used for various purposed by common users without additional hardware and software.

Type Classification of Forestland Value by Using GIS Analysis (GIS를 이용한 산지가치 구분)

  • The type of forestland value was evaluated using various thematic maps, satellite images, and aerial photograph of Namyangju, Based on GIS analysis, forestland value was classified into 4 kind types; conservation, production, recreation, and development values. Finally, the comprehensive analysis map of forestland value was made according to the priority order of value assessment. Among the whole forestland of Namyangju, conservation value area is $195km^2$, high production value area $96km^2$ except the conservation value area, high recreation value area $59km^2$, and the high development value area is $11km^2$. Henceforward, The value evaluation system of forestland by using GIS is to be very applicable for the scientific management of forestland, according to the periodic data update.

  • In this study GIS based pre- and post-processing tool for the Visual MODFLOW that is specific software to model groundwater flow is developed. This tool not only makes input data scientifically but also manages input and output data in terms of the groundwater flow analysis. In addition it can storage project products systematically into Oracle database. The most characteristic figure of this processing tool is to provide the module, which automatically or semi automatically develops various grid cell sizes using GIS ArcView and also produces DXF files reflecting various boundary conditions in the modeling zone. In particular, eminences of this research are to create 3 dimensional hydrogeological structures with 2 dimensional GIS ArcView and to conduct pre- and post- processing along with same topology and data format of the MODFLOW.

  • The planning and management of the watershed environment require huge amount of information regarding almost all aspects of natural and manmade features of the area. Until lately this study could be achieved through days of exhaustive surveys map generation and tedious calculations. Remote sensing and GIS provides huge temporal database for an area and GIS provides the powerful tool for spatial and non-spatial analysis of remotely sensed data. The paper highlights the assessment of land potentiality using weighed overlay analysis with drainage density, soil, slope and lineament, LULC map was used to identify the utilization area of the watershed. The arithmetic overlay analysis was performed with potential and utilization layer to assess the availability of land for the future development.
