  • In Taiwanese Daoism, the Celestial Worthy of the Ninth Heaven, Responder, Thunderbolt-bearer, and Transformer of the Universe (九天應元雷聲普化天尊) is the highest deity in the Thunder Ministry. In the the Korean new religion, Daesoon Jinrihoe (大巡真理會), he is the Supreme God. However, since the Celestial Worthy of the Ninth Heaven, Responder, Thunderbolt-bearer, and Transformer of the Universe has the same name in these two traditions, it naturally leads people to wonder whether or not they can be considered the same deity. Or failing that, it could still be asked, to what extent are these two deities related? Or it could further be asked what meaning does the Celestial Worthy of the Ninth Heaven, Responder, Thunderbolt-bearer, and Transformer of the Universe have in these two religions? Anyhow, all such questions depend on first establishing a greater degree of basic clarity. Religious scripture can serve as a cornerstone in gaining such basic clarity. Scripture almost invariably contains information regarding the divine nature, divine authority, and sacrosanctity of deities reflective of what is understood by the devotees of those religions. Clues on the precise nature of these key attributes of deity-depiction can be drawn out of scriptural accounts, and as such, the research presented in this paper will begin by comparing two relevant scriptures. The representative scriptures highlighted in this paper will be The Canonical Scripture (典經) of Daesoon Jinrihoe and The Scripture of the Jade Pivot (玉樞寶經) of Zhengyi (Orthodox Unity, 正一) Daoism. These scriptures will serve as the basis for exploration and analysis of the divine attributes of the Celestial Worthy of the Ninth Heaven, Responder, Thunderbolt-bearer, and Transformer of the Universe in terms of his divine nature, divine authority, and sacrosanctity. By comparing these two scriptural accounts of his divine attributes, the similarities and differences that arise can be properly explored. This paper endeavors to clarify the ultimate purpose of 'the Celestial Worthy of the Ninth Heaven, Responder, Thunderbolt-bearer, and Transformer of the Universe.' In this paper, the first step will be an exploration of scriptural analysis. The contents of this paper is roughly divided into four sections. The first section is an exploration of the general contents of the two scriptures, including their origin, contents, and value. The second section focuses on the three main divine attributes of the Celestial Worthy of the Ninth Heaven, Responder, Thunderbolt-bearer, and Transformer of the Universe: his divine nature, divine authority, and sacrosanctity. The third section will compare the depictions of the deity in the two scriptural accounts in terms of those three attributes. Lastly, the deity's evolutionary history in both religions is shown and compared and final remarks are made on the contemporary value of the Celestial Worthy of the Ninth Heaven, Responder, Thunderbolt-bearer, and Transformer of the Universe.

  • This paper attempts to read in different ways and to interpret newly on Cheoyongrang mhang-hae-sa in "Sam-guk-yu-sa". Ulsan have held Cheoyong Cultural Festival for 47 times according to "Sam-guk-yu-sa". However, there have been a frequent identity crisis about Cheoyong Cultural Festival because of controversial issue about Cheoyong, This paper interpretate Cheoyongrang mhang-hae-sa newly to overcome these crisis, Cheoyong's dancing and retreating was not the resignation and tolerance, but the treat and warning, as the dance of Namsansin god of Posukjeong, Buk-acksin god of Keumkangryung and Jisin god of Dongryejeon was the warning of Silla's ruination. 'The Mhang' of Mhang-he-sa temple should be interpreted not as 'watch' but 'fifteen days'. Mhang-he means the roads buried in darkness and vanished had become a sea. The name of Shin-bhang-sa temple means Gae-un-po province of Ulsan had become 'the newly purified region' because of the inspection of King Heon-ghang. The main keyword of Cheoyongrang mhang-hae-sa is 'Byuk-sa-jin-gyung'. 'Byuk-sa-jin-gyung' means to repel the impious and pray the pleasure. The purpose of the personal Gut and national Gut, Narae, was also 'Byuk-sa-jin-gyung'. The reinvented bridal room with a fresh life was like the world of Byuk-sa-jin-gyung. The dance of God Sa-bhang was, as well the desperate desire to New Silla. Cheoyong was a shaman with a superior authority who set up the power to foresee to the god of smallpox. The image of Cheoyong at is not the resignation and tolerance, but the foresight and authority. Therefore, the slogan of Cheoyong Cultural Festival, the resignation and tolerance, should be reexamined. The new Cheoyong Cultural Festival should adopt the concept of foresight and authority and Byuk-sa-jin-gyung. Cheoyong Cultural Festival, have been held for 49times, often had identity problems. The identity of Cheoyong have been misinterpreted as the resignation and tolerance. The slogan of Cheoyong Cultural Festival should be reexamined. The new Cheoyong Cultural Festival should adopt the concept of foresight and authority and Byuk-sa-jin-gyung.

  • This study explored the changes of the patterns of land use and the social patterns of ownership of Kumnamno in Kwangju under the rule of Japanese colonialism by analyzing the townscape of Kumnamno in terms of the form and function of it. The research was done considering three periods: the year of 1912, 1930 and 1945. Kumnamno is the name of the street as well as the legal district name, and includes Kumnamno 1-ga, 2-ga, 3-ga, 4-ga and 5-ga. In the year 1912, Kumnamno was utilized as land, farmland and road. With the increase in population and the urbanization of the Kwangju area, it gradually began to be changed into land. By 1941, it was completely turned into land. Before and after the year 1910, the streets intersecting the Kumnamno area came into being as the roads of the Kwangju town, and were built with a lattice pattern. The road building of the Kumnamno began in accordance with the building of Kwangju station in 1922. The road building linking Kwangju Station to Chonnam Provincial Hall marked the first appearance of Kumnamno. The block from Ku-sung-no to Kumnamno 3-ga was built in 1925, the block from Kumnamno 3-ga to 2-ga in 1921, and Kumnamno 1-ga in 1930. It was not until the year 1933 that the construction of streets ranging from Ku-sung-no through Kumnamno 5-ga was finished. Examining the land ownership of the Kumnamno area in 1912, the Japanese possessed the land of Kumnamno 1-ga, 2-ga and 3-ga on the one hand and the Koreans possessed the land of 4-ga and 5-ga on the other hand. In 1930, the Japanese enlarged their sphere of influence and controlled the land located in all the areas of Kumnamno, and the Koreans reduced their ownership of Kumnamno 4-ga and 5-ga. There was a tendency for companies to occupy the land rapidly. In 1945, while the land owned by the Japanese decreased and the land owned by the Koreans did not change in quantity, the possessions of companies increased. To summarize, the Kumnamno area had some changes in the use of land during the above mentioned period. This was in part due to the construction of a street linking Kwangju Station to Chonnam Provincial Hall in order to strengthen the authority of the Japanese Government-General of Korea, as well as the expansion of the residential zone with the increase of the population of Kwangju.

  • The domain name should be registered and used with the minimum length in consideration of the user's web accessibility and convenience. In addition, it is necessary to increase the status and authority of the library by allowing the type, region, and characteristics of the library to be known only by the domain name, and to consider the convenience of users. In this study, the situation of the state designated second-stage public domain and the second-stage public domain of educational institutions of similar character and size to the library are analyzed, and problems with the domain of libraries that do not have the second-stage domain are identified. Finally, second-stage public domains of national library (nl), public library (pl), and small library (sl) are proposed for each type of library, and the university library (lib. university domain) and school library (lib. School domain) proposed to use as the second-stage domains of the educational institution. The purpose is to allow users to intuitively know that these domains are libraries, to identify the type of library, and to know the characteristics and regions of the library. To this end, a joint effort by the academic community, the library community, and the Library Information Policy Committee is needed.

  • This study seeks to replace PaRIS Principles and find directions of revising KCR4 by analyzing the international Cataloging Principles 2009(ICP 2009) established in the environment of Machine Readable Cataloging. ICP 2009 was reflected in cataloging rules such as RDA and ISBD 2010 as the minimal principles for uniformity in establishing each nation's cataloging rules. In contrary, KCR4 needs to be revised because it has never been changed after 2003, and has only description rules without any rules for the choice and forms of access points. Therefore, this study aims to grasp requirements that should be reflected in KCR4 through analyzing ICP 2009. In first step, it is to grasp the features of ICP 2009 by comparing PaRIS Principle and ICP 2009 and to compare KCR4 in aspects of ICP 2009. The detailed elements for comparison between ICP 2009 and KCR4 are scope, general principles, entitles, attributes, and relationships, objectives and functions of the catalogue, bibliographic description, access points, foundations for search capabilities as the contents of ICP 2009. As a result, this study could give some directions of KCR4 in the future. First, ISBD 2010 and conceptual models should be reflected in KCR4 in description. Second, it should regulate the authority access points in KCR4 based on ICP 2009. Third, it will describe essential access points of work and expression attributes in bibliographic records and authority records to find works and expression. This study will contribute to guide the national cataloging rules.

  • Based on the analysis of the NDL authority system, this study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of subject authorities related to Korea in the NDL. The results are as follows. First, NDL subject authorities related to Korea are 3,143 in total including 2,205 headings and 938 subdivisions. Among them, social sciences accounted for more than half with 52.4%, and economics by individual discipline accounted for the most with 552 cases, 17.6%. Second, most of the subject headings of historical events caused by or directly related to Japan are described from the Japanese perspective, and terms familiar to Korea are mainly described in reference, not in heading. Third, subject headings representing Korean characteristics or historical events are considerably lacking or nondescript. Forth, when referring the name of the country, the term 'Joseon (朝鮮)' continues to be used to refer to both South and North Korea; however, it is necessary to subdivide the history after 1948 which includes the era of the 'Republic of Korea' and the 'Democratic People's Republic of Korea'. Using the term Joseon to refer North and South Korea may cause the reader to perceive Korea as persisting in the Joseon Dynasty. Furthermore, while 'Balhae (渤海)' is regarded as Chinese history, it is a part of Korean history and should be added to the Korean historical periods.
