Mobile computing refers to an emerging new computing environment incorporating both wireless and wired high-speed networking technologies. In the near future, it is expected that mobile users will have access to a wide variety of services that will be made available over highspeed networks. The quality of these services in the high-speed networks can be specified in terms of several QoS paameters. The important QoS parameter in mobile computings is the guarantee for seamless communication which is to provide disruption free service to mobile users. A disruption in service could occur due to active handoffs. This paper proposes an extended staggened muticast approach which provides a probabilistic guarantee for disruption free service. The extended staggerd multicast approach estimates mobility direction and mobility velocity for a user. It is possible that data packets for a mobile host are multicasted to not all neighbor cells but a part of neighbor cells on the basis of these information. Therefore, the extended staggered multicast significantly reduces the static network bandwidth usage also provides a probabilistic guarantee for disruption free service.
We propose and design the algorithms of symbol timing recovery, carrier recovery, and equalization for the receiver of S-DMT cable modem, which supports more channels and better symmetric mutimedia services over HFC network. We evaluate the performance of the concatenated entire receiving system of 16QAM, 64QAM in the mixed noise channel of AWGN, ISI and impulse. The result of evaluation shows those algorithms work correctly and designed S-DMT receiver has good performance. We also verify the designed system has excellent immunity against impulse noise channel of practical Cable TV networks by the result of simulation with the parameters of impulse internal $\varepsilon$ and noise power $\gamma^{k}$.
The multimedia traffic of continuous video and audio data via streaming service accounts for a significant and expanding portion of the Internet traffic. This streaming data delivery is mostly based on RTP with UDP. However, UDP does not support congestion control. For this reason, UDP causes the starvation of congestion controlled TCP traffic which reduces its bandwidth share during overload situation. In this paper, we propose a new TCP-friendly rate control scheme called 'TF-RTP(TCP-Friendly RTP)'. In the congested network state, the TF-RTP exactly estimates the competing TCP's throughput by using the modified parameters. Then, it controls the sending rate of the video streams. Therefore, the TF-RTP adjusts its sending rate to TCP-friendly and fair share with competing TCP traffics. Through the simulation, we prove that the TF-RTP correctly estimates the TCP's throughput and improves the TCP-friendliness and fairness.
As the high-speed internet access market steadily nears its maturity phase, growth is quickly tapering off and competition, intensifying. As a result telecommunications companies are at present faced with the urgent need to evolve away from a growth model based on continuous acquisition of new subscribers. The recent convergence of telecommunication and broadcasting has come about precisely at this transitional period in the telecommunications market, and is perceived by the industry both as a new business opportunity and as a threat. TV-based VOD(Video on Demand), for one, is able to attract new customers desiring multimedia services of superior quality and to lock-in existing customers. Meanwhile, the latest evolution in network development is brightening the market prospect for TV-based VOD. The service has now hit the market, deployed over VDSL networks - a next-generation high-speed internet - and advanced cable modem networks, delivering high-definition DVD-quality videos. TV-based VOD is a service whose deployment is closely linked to the evolution of subscriber networks. According to the forecast produced by the present study, based on the forecast on the post-ADSL market and a survey conducted on VOD, as post-ADSL subscribers increase from 1.53 million in 2003 to 4.44 million in 2004, and 9.87 million in 2006, the percentage of post-ADSL subscribers with intention to also subscribe to a VOD service is expected to rise from 16% to 34% in 2006. Accordingly, VOD subscribers are estimated to increase from 0.24 million in 2003 to 0.98 million in 2004 and to 3.35 million in 2006.
With the rapid advancement of mobile communication, mobile devices are evolving into convergence devices with various multimedia capabilities. But, high performance of devices demands complicated settings, and thus contains latent error possibilities, and poor system performance caused by the collision of different softwares. To solve these problems, device management becomes an important issue. Open Mobile Alliance(OMA) developed OMA DM(Device Management), which is a device management standard. Recently released OMA DM v1.2 provides improved mobile device management methods compared to earlier versions. This paper introduces design and implementation of OMA DM v1.2 based management agent. By using Tree and Description Serialization(TNDS) for acquiring, adding, and editing objects in the mobile devices, it provides more effective device management with small amount of network traffic.

This paper describes the system which provides home entertainment services to users using the middleware-cooperation module which makes UPnP and ACAP cooperate with each other. UPnP or ACAP providespowerful functionalities to its own network to play multimedia contents using its own resources. U one middleware uses the information and the resources of another middleware, itcould provide services with more contents and more powerful functionalities than those which it originally provides. This paper develops the middleware-cooperation module to make two middleware cooperate with each other and use resources of another middleware. The middleware-cooperation module makes UPnP and ACAP cooperate with each other, and it makes them share their information and resources without resource collision.

Internet of Things (IoT) is possibly the most widely discussed technological concept in today's technology circles. This technology is expected to dramatically change not only how we work but also how we live. The concept of IoT basically means a web of connected devices which can be controlled over a data network. With cost of technology required to control these devices going down and increasing internet connectivity through smartphones, IoT is expected to be an all pervasive technology in the next 10 years. In this paper, we study the technological landscape of this fast growing technology domain from an Intellectual Property (Patents) perspective. We find that the patent distribution in this domain is very fragmented with the top patent applicants in the field holding around 5% of the total patents. Especially, the US geography has seen the maximum patent filings and is closely followed by the big Asian markets of Japan and Korea.
Recently, the web-based adaptive streaming service, DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), is receiving more attention. However, existing network-based and buffer-based video quality control schemes in DASH environments make oscillation of segment throughput, causing degradation of the quality of experience (QoE) with frequent quality changes and playback interruptions because these schemes do not consider the content characteristics. In this paper, we propose a C-DASH (Content Characteristics based Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) scheme in order to improve the QoE in DASH environments. The C-DASH scheme performs seamless and smooth quality control based on the segment throughput, buffer status, and segment size of the content. Based on simulation results, it is confirmed that the C-DASH scheme can improve the QoE, when compared with the existing quality control schemes.

MOST150, which has a higher bandwidth than of MOST25, appears to satisfy the demand for the automotive infotainment system and to increase the multimedia processing capacity, and the various technology applications are required for the accomplishment of MOST150 development. The MOST25 network technology is being restrictively equipped with some of the car models but the problems with bandwidth and compatibility has arisen. In order to solve this, the MOST150 technology has been developed and further research is being carried out to apply the technology to the automobile industry. Thus, for the effective process of the Ethernet traffic in the realization of MOST150/Ethernet Gateway for automobile, we, in the research, shall analyse the Management Mapping method, including the MOST150's Isochronous channel, the MOST Ethernet Packet channel, and etc. and study the efficient algorithm.

The recent, a large capacity of communication is required in order to it is in proportion to capacity of information communication increase and to satisfy a demand because of the demand about Internet, a multimedia service of Video of internet protocol(VoIP), Audio/Video steaming. DWDM(Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technique has been emerged as the method of solving it without additional optical fiber network building and hish-speed equipment. Therefore this thesis proposed the optical filter of fiber/multilayer slab coupled structure combining it to multilayer slab waveguide by polishing the cladding of one side of fiber to design the optical filter having these functions. The optical filter proposed as the simulation result satisfies DWDM filter characteristic; 1) when the separation distance between fiber and slab is $4.15{\mu}m$ at the communication window of $1.5{\mu}m$, the polarization independence is 65nm, 2) when the center wavelengths about TM mode and TE mode are each ${\lambda}_0=1.54946\;{\mu}m$ and ${\lambda}_0=1.6144\;{\mu}m$ and, FWHM(Full at Half Maximun) is 0.1nm.
