In order to evaluate KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT) application products and develop the multi-sensor data application technologies, the Product Validation Site (PVS) will be designed and constructed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI). Also KARl has a plan for acquisition of multi-sensor data such as ENVISAT ASAR and Project for On Board Autonomy (PROBA) Compact High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (CHRIS) data through international cooperation with European Space Agency (ESA). These data will be utilized with KOMPSAT-2 Multi-Spectral Camera (MSC) data. KARI and ESA have identified a mutual interest in creating synergy in the joint exploitation of Earth Observation data for science and applications both in Korea and Europe. This paper summarizes the status of joint experimental studies between KARI and ESA for further applications and presents some expected results from related activities.

Research and development of remote sensing technique is necessary so that more accurate and extensive information may be obtained. To achieve this goal, the synthesized technique which integrates the high resolution optic and SAR image, and topographical information was examined to investigate the quantitative/qualitative characteristics of the Earth's surface environment. For this purpose, high-precision DEMs of Jeju-Island was generated and data fusion algorithm was developed in order to integrate the multi-spectral optic and polarimetric SAR image. Three dimensional land-cover and two dimensional soil moisture maps were generated conclusively so as to investigate the Earth's surface environments and extract the geophysical parameters.
The merging of different scales or multi-sensor image data is becoming a widely used procedure of the complementary nature of various data sets. Ideally, the merging method should not distort the characteristics of the high-spatial and high-spectral resolution data used. To present an effective merging method for survey of reclaimed land using the high-resolution (6.6 m) Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1 (KOMPSA T-l) and the multispectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image data, this paper compares the results of Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) methods. The comparison is made by statistical and visual evaluation of three-color combination images of IHS and PCA results based on spatial and spectral characteristics. The use of MODIS bands 1, 2, and 3 with a contrast stretched EOC panchromatic image as a substitute for intensity was found to be particularly effective in this study.
Multi-Spectral Camera(MSC) on the KOMPSAT-2 satellite was developed and launched as a main payload to provide 1m of GSD(Ground Sampling Distance) for one(1) channel panchromatic imaging and 4m of GSD for four(4) channel multi-spectral imaging at 685km altitude covering l5km of swath width. Since the compression on MSC image chain was required to overcome the mismatch between input data rate and output date rate JPEG-like method was selected and analyzed to check the influence on the performance. In normal operation the MSC data is being acquired and transmitted with lossy compression ratio to cover whole image channel and full swath width in real-time. In the other hand the MSC performance have carefully been handled to avoid or minimize any degradation so that it was analyzed and restored in KGS(KOMPSAT Ground Station) during LEOP(Launch and Early Operation Phase). While KOMPSAT-2 had been developed, new compression method based upon wavelet for space application was introduced and available for next satellite. The study on improvement of image chain including new compression method is asked for next KOMPSAT which requires better GSD and larger swath width In this paper, satellite image chain which consists of on-board image chain and on-ground image chain including general MSC description is briefly described. The performance influences on the image chain between two on-board compression methods which are or will be used for KOMPSAT are analyzed. The differences on performance between two methods are compared and the better solution for the performance improvement of image chain on KOMPSAT is suggested.

SAC is earth observation camera being developed by satrec initiative. It provides 10m in multi-spectral channel and 50km swath width at 685km altitude. The EQM of SAC has been developed and tested. In this paper, the procedure and result of the vibration test of SAC to validate structural design and to verify structural toughness are described.
In this study, we report an effective k-domain linearization method with a pre-calibrated indexed look-up table. The method minimizes k-domain nonlinear characteristics of a swept source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) system by using two arrays, a sample position shift index and an intensity compensation array. Two arrays are generated from an interference pattern acquired by connecting a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) and an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) to the system. At real time imaging, the sample position is modified by location movement and intensity compensation with two arrays for linearity of wavenumber. As a result of evaluating point spread functions (PSFs), the signal to noise ratio (SNR) is increased by 9.7 dB. When applied to infrared (IR) sensing card imaging, the SNR is increased by 1.29 dB and the contrast noise ratio (CNR) value is increased by 1.44. The time required for the linearization and intensity compensation is 30 ms for a multi thread method using a central processing unit (CPU) compared to 0.8 ms for compute unified device architecture (CUDA) processing using a graphics processing unit (GPU). We verified that our linearization method is appropriate for applying real time imaging of SS-OCT.

The advantage of the remote sensing is extraction the information of wide area rapidly. Such advantage is the resource and environment are quick and efficient method to grasps accurately method through the land cover classification of wide area. Accordingly this study is used to the high-resolution (6.6m) Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1 (KOMPSAT-1) and the multi-spectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image data(36 bands). We accomplished FCM classification technique with MLC technique to be general land cover classification method in the content of research. And evaluated the accuracy assessment of two classification method.

The 7-dimensional Telescope (7DT) is an innovative multiple telescope system that can perform a rapid identification of optical counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) sources and a wide variety of other astronomical projects. This telescope is being developed as a part of the recently approved National Challenge program, the GW Universe project, with a full operation planned at the end of 2023. The word 7-dimension stands for x, y, z positions, the radial velocity, the time, the wavelength, and the flux of astronomical sources, implying the telescope's capability of performing time-series wide-field, IFU-type spectroscopic observations. The 7DT is composed of about twenty 0.5-m wide-field telescopes, and it can obtain spectral-imaging data at 40 different wavelengths to the depth of 20 AB mag with 3 min exposure for a given epoch. In this talk, we will introduce the telescope system, and outline its scientific capabilities with an emphasis on multi-messenger astronomy and a few other key science topics.

Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) imaging system is independent of solar illumination and weather conditions; however, SAR image is difficult to interpret as compared with optical images. It has been increased interest in multi-sensor fusion technique which can improve the interpretability of $SAR^{\circ\circ}$ images by fusing the spectral information from multispectral(MS) image. In this paper, a multi-sensor fusion method based on high-frequency extraction process using Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and outlier elimination process is proposed, which maintain the spectral content of the original MS image while retaining the spatial detail of the high-resolution SAR image. We used TerraSAR-X which is constructed on the same X-band SAR system as KOMPSAT-5 and KOMPSAT-2 MS image as the test data set to evaluate the proposed method. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method, the fusion result was compared visually and quantitatively with the result obtained using existing fusion algorithms. The evaluation results showed that the proposed image fusion method achieved successful results in the fusion of SAR and MS image compared with the existing fusion algorithms.
This paper is an overview of research contributions by the authors to the use of compression techniques to handle high resolution, multi-spectral images. Originally developed in the remote sensing context, the same techniques are here applied to food and medical images. The objective is to point out the potential of this kind of processing in different contexts such as remote sensing, food monitoring, and medical imaging and to stimulate new research exploitations. Compression is based on the simple assumption that it is possible to find out a relationship between pixels close one each other in multi-spectral images it translates to the possibility to say that there is a certain degree of correlation within pixels belonging to the same band in a close neighbourhood. Once found a correlation based on certain coefficient on one band, the coefficients of this relationship are, in turn, quite probably, similar to the ones calculated in one of the other bands. Based upon this second observation, an algorithm was developed, able to reduce the number of bit/pixel from 16 to 4 in satellite remote sensed multi-spectral images. A comparison is carried out between different methods about their speed and compression ratio. As reference it was taken the behaviour of three common algorithms, LZW (Lempel-Ziv-Welch), Huffman and RLE (Run Length Encoding), as they are used in common graphic format such as GIF, JPEG and PCX. The Presented methods have similar results in both speed and compression ratio to the commonly used programs and are to be preferred when the decompression must be carried out on line, inside a main program or when there is the need of a custom made compression algorithm.
