  • Dynamic responses of a simply supported beam with a translational spring carrying a moving mass are studied. Governing equations of motion including all the inertia effects of a moving mass are derived by employing the Galerkin's mode summation method, and solved by using the Runge-Kutta integral method. Numerical solutions for dynamic responses of a beam are obtained for various cases by changing parameters of the spring stiffness, the spring position, the mass ratio and the velocity ratio of a moving mass. Some experiments are conducted to verify the numerical results obtained. Experimental results for the dynamic responses of the test beam have a good agreement with numerical ones.

  • The analysis of a mechanical system, body traveling along the elastic structure, has been a topic of interest. The establishment of analytical method for the development and control of this system is required in the fields of many machine operations such as modern weapons and high-speed feed drive system for a machine tool. The dynamic equations are derived on the torsion of a cantilever hollow shaft induced by the spin-up of a moving mass and the displacement of the mass. Influences of design parameters such as the inertia ratio, the mass moving speed and the friction coefficient are discussed on the transient response of the system.

  • A conveying fluid cantilever pipe system subjected to an uniformly distributed tangential follower force and three moving masses upon it constitute this vibrational system. The influences of the velocities of moving masses, the distance between two moving masses. and the uniformly distributed tangential follower force have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe system by numerical mettled. The uniformly distributed tangential follower force is considered within its ciritical value of a cantilever pipe without moving masses, and three constant velocities and three constant distance between two moving masses are also chosen. When the moving masses exist on pipe, As the velocity of the moving mass and distributed tangental force increases, the deflection of cantilever pipe conveying fluid is decreased, respectively. Increasing of the velocity of fluid flow make the amplitude of cantilever pipe conveying fluid decrease. After the moving mass passed upon the pipe, the tip displacement of pipe is influenced by the potential energy of cantilever pipe.

  • In this paper, vibration suppression of an elastic beam fixed on a moving cart and carrying a fixed or moving mass is considered. A modified pulse sequence method with RIC(Robust Internal-loop Compensator) is proposed to suppress the single model residual vibration and to get accurate positioning of the beam-mass-cart system. The performance of the proposed input preshaping method is compared with that of the previous ones through simulations and experiments. Using the proposed method, it is able to suppress the initial vibration of the beam-mass-cart system carrying a concentrated mass. Accurate PTP(point-to-point) positioning of the moving mass without residual vibration is also obtained experimentally by modifying the proposed pulse sequence method. Finally, the proposed input preshaping method is applied successfully to the system to follow square trajectories of the moving mass without residual vibration.

  • In this paper, the effect of open crack on the dynamic behavior of simply supported Timoshenko beam with a moving mass was studied. The influences of the depth and the position of the crack on the beam were studied on the dynamic behavior of the simply supported beam system by numerical methods. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. The crack is modeled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces on the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory. As the depth of the crack increases, the mid-span deflection of the Timoshenko beam with a moving mass is increased.

  • In this Paper a dynamic behavior of a cracked cantilever pipe conveying fluid with the moving mass is presented. It has the results focused on the response characteristics. Based on the Euler-Bernouli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The cracked section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. When the fluid velocity is constant, the influences of the crack severity, the position of the crack, the moving mass and its velocity, and the coupling of these factors on the tip-displacement of the cantilever pipe are depicted.

  • In this research, the wavelet transform is used to analyze time response of a cracked beam carrying moving mass for damage detection. In this respect, a new damage detection method based on the combined use of continuous and discrete wavelet transforms is proposed. It is shown that this method is more capable in making damage signature evident than the traditional two approaches based on direct investigation of the wavelet coefficients of structural response. By the proposed method, it is concluded that strain data outperforms displacement data at the same point in revealing damage signature. In addition, influence of moving mass-induced terms such as gravitational, Coriolis, centrifuge forces, and pure inertia force along the deflection direction to damage detection is investigated on a sample case. From this analysis it is concluded that centrifuge force has the most influence on making both displacement and strain data damage-sensitive. The Coriolis effect is the second to improve the damage-sensitivity of data. However, its impact is considerably less than the former. The rest, on the other hand, are observed to be insufficient alone.

  • An iterative modal analysis approach is developed to determine the effect of the transverse open cracks and the moving mass on the dynamic behavior of simply supported pipe conveying fluid. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the velocity of moving mass, the velocity of fluid flow and a crack have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported pipe system by numerical method. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. that is, the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. Totally, as the velocity of fluid flow is increased, the mid-span deflection of simply supported pipe conveying fluid is increased. The position of the crack is middle point of the pipe, the mid-span deflection of simply supported pipe presents maximum deflection.
