A vehicle suspension system performs two functions, the ride quality and the stability, which conflict with each other. An active suspension system has an external energy source, from which energy is always supplied to the system for continuous control of vehicle motion. Therefore, an active suspension system can have even more improved performance. Some control laws have been proposed for active suspension system, but in this paper, an optimal variable structure control(VSC) is proposed. The VSC method is well suited for a class of nonlinear system and can address the robustness issues to constant modelling errors and disturbances. This paper develops an optimal VSC controller and compares its performance to those of a passive suspension system and an active suspension system with an optimal controller. The transient and frequency responses are analyzed respectively.

An estimation of 3D velocity field including occluded parts without maxing tracer to the fluid had not only never been proposed but also impossible by the conventional computer vision algorithm. In this paper, we propose a new method of three dimensional optical flow of the fluid based on physical model, where some boundary conditions are given from a priori knowledge of the flow configuration. Optical flow is obtained by minimizing the mean square errors of a basic constraint and the matching error terms with visual data using Euler equations. Here, Navier-Stokes motion equations and the differences between occluded data and observable data are employed as the basic constrains. we verify the effectiveness of our proposed method by applying our algorithm to simulated data with partly artificially deleted and recovering the lacking data. Next, applying our method to the fluid of observable surface data and the knowledge of boundary conditions, we demonstrate that 3D optical flow are obtained by proposed algorithm.
Cerebellar Model Arithmetic Controller (CMAC) has been introduced as an adaptive control function generator. CMAC computes control functions referring to a distributed memory table storing functional values rather than by solving equations analytically or numerically. CMAC has a unique mapping structure as a coarse coding and supervisory delta-rule learning property. In this paper, learning aspects and a convergence of the CMAC were investigated. The efficient training algorithms were developed to overcome the limitations caused by the conventional maximum error correction training and to eliminate the accumulated learning error caused by a sequential node training. A nonlinear function generator and a motion generator for a two d.o.f. manipulator were simulated. The efficiency of the various learning algorithms was demonstrated through the cpu time used and the convergence of the rms and maximum errors accumulated during a learning process. A generalization property and a learning effect due to the various gains were simulated. A uniform quantizing method was applied to cope with various ranges of input variables efficiently.

The Stewart Platform is a six-degree-of-freedom in-parallel-actuated manipiulator mechanism. The kinematic behavior of parallel mechanisms shows inverse characteristics as compared that of serial mechanisms; i.e, the inverse kinematic problem of Stewart Platform is straightforward, but no closed form solution of the forward kinematic problem has been previously presented. Thus it is difficult to calculate the 6 DOF displacement of the platform from the measured lengths of the six actuators in real time. Here, a real-time estimation algorithm which solves the Stewart Platform kinematic problem is proposed and tested through computer simulations and experiments. The proposed algorithm shows stable convergence characteristics, no estimation errors in steady state and good estimation performance with higher sampling rate. In experiments it is shown that the estimation result is the same as that of simulation even in the presence of measurement noise.

The present paper deals with the development of digital contouring controller for multiaxial servosystem. Instead of coordinating the commands to the individual feed drives and implementing closed position loop control for each axis, this work is achieved by the evaluation of a optimal cross-couple compensator aimed specifically at improving contouring accuracy in multi-axial feed drives. The optimal control formulation explicitly includes the contour error in the performance index to be minimized. The contouring control is simulated for straight line. The results show that the proposed controller reduces contouring errors considerably, as compared to the conventional uncoupled control for biaxial systems.
In the present study, solution algorithms for the computation of unsteady flows on an unstructured mesh are presented. Dual time stepping is incorporated to achieve the 2-nd order temporal accuracy while reducing the linearization and the factorization errors associated with a linear solver. Hence, any time step can be used by only considering physical phenomena. Gauss-Seidel scheme is used to solve linear system of equations. Rigid motion and spring analogy method fur moving mesh are all considered and compared. Special treatments of spring analogy for high aspect ratio cells are presented. Finally, numerical results for oscillating wing are compared with experimental data.
A robust end time optimal conかof strategy for dual-stage servo system is presented. The time optimal trajectory for a mass-damper system is determined and given os a reference input to the servo system. The feedback controller is constructed so that the fine stage tracks the coarse stage errors and robustly designed as the“perturbation compensated sliding mode control(PCSMC)”law, a combination of slid-ing mode controller(SMC) and perturbation observer(PO). In addition, a null motion controller which regulates the fine stage at its neutral position is designed based on the“dynamic consistency”So, the overall dual-stage servo system exhibits the robust and time-optimal performance. The inherent merit and performance of the dual-stage system will be shown.

In this paper, an optimal coning compensation algorithm for strapdown system is proposed by minimizing the coning error. The proposed algorithm is derived as a generalized form in that it contains the class of the existing coning algorithms and allows the design of optimal algorithm for various combinations of gyro samples. It is shown the magnitude of resulting algorithm errors depends mainly on the total number of gyro samples including present and previous gyro samples. Based on the results, the proposed algorithm enables the algorithm designers to develop the effective coning compensation algorithm according to their attitude computation specifications with ease. In addition, the multirate method which can efficiently implement the algorithm is presented.

Most structures are expected to deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic behavior when subjected to strong ground motion. Seismic evaluation of structure requires an estimation of the structural performance in terms of displacement demand imposed by earthquakes on the structure. Nonlinear response history analysis(NRHA) is the most rigorous procedure to compute seismic performance among various inelastic analysis methods. But nonlinear analysis procedures necessitate more practical and reliable tools for predicting seismic behavior of structures. This paper presents a nonlinear direct spectrum method(NDSM) to evaluate seismic performance of structures, without iterative computations, given by the structural initial elastic period and yield strength from the pushover analysis, especially for MDF(multi degree of freedom) system. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the accuracy and reliability of this method from a point of view of various earthquakes and structure parameters.

This paper presents a system identification (SI) scheme in time domain using measured acceleration data. The error function is defined as the time integral of the least squared errors between the measured acceleration and the calculated acceleration by a mathematical model. Damping parameters as well as stiffness properties of a structure are considered as system parameters. The structural damping is modeled by the Rayleigh damping. A new regularization function defined by the L1-norm of the first derivative of system parameters with respect to time is proposed to alleviate the ill-posed characteristics of inverse problems and to accommodate discontinuities of system parameters in time. The time window concept is proposed to trace variation of system parameters in time. Numerical simulation study is performed through a two-span continuous truss subject to ground motion.
