Background: The aims of this study are to evaluate the lip morphology and change of lip commissure after mandibular setback surgery (MSS) for class III patients and analyze association between the amount of mandibular setback and change of lip morphology. Methods: The samples consisted of 14 class III patients treated with MSS using bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy. Lateral cephalogram and cone-beam CT were taken before and about 6 months after MSS. Changes in landmarks and variables were measured with 3D software program $Ondemand^{TM}$. Paired and independent t tests were performed for statistical analysis. Results: Landmarks in the mouth corner (cheilion, Ch) moved backward and downward (p < .005, p < .01). However, cheilion width was not statistically significantly changed. Landmark in labrale superius (Ls) was not altered significantly. Upper lip prominence angle (ChRt-Ls-$ChLt^{\circ}$) became acute. Landmarks in stomion (Stm), labrale inferius (Li) moved backward (p < .005, p < .001). Lower lip prominence angle (ChRt-Li-$ChLt^{\circ}$) became obtuse (p < .001). Height of the upper and lower lips was not altered significantly. Length of the upper lip vermilion was increased (p =< 0.01), and length of the lower lip vermilion was decreased (p < .05). Lip area on frontal view was not statistically significantly changed, but the upper lip area on lateral view was increased and change of the lower lip area decreased (p > .05, p < .005). On lateral view, upper lip prominent point (UP) moved downward and stomion moved backward and upward and the angle of Ls-UP-Stm ($^{\circ}$) was decreased. Lower lip prominent point (LP) moved backward and downward, and the angle of Stm-LP-Li ($^{\circ}$) was increased. Li moved backward. Finally, landmarks in the lower incisor tip (L1) moved backward and upward, but stomion moved downward. After surgery, lower incisor tip (L1) was positioned more superiorly than stomion (p < .05). There were significant associations between horizontal soft tissue and corresponding hard tissue. The posterior movement of L1 was related to statistically significantly about backward and downward movement of cheilion. Conclusions: The lip morphology of patients with dento-skeletal class III malocclusion shows a significant improvement after orthognathic surgery. Three-dimensional lip morphology changes in class III patients after MSS exhibited that cheilion moved backward and downward, upper lip projection angle became acute, lower lip projection angle became obtuse, change of upper lip area on lateral view was increased, change of lower lip area decreased, and morphology of lower lip was protruding. L1 was concerned with the lip tissue change in statistically significant way.
Morphological changes of early larval stages of Lophius litulon (Jordan) are described based on 861 individuals collected at the intertidal zone at Haeundae, Busan, on the 20th of June, 1976. Particular emphasis is paid on the development of dorsal spinous rays, ventral fin rays, chromatophore patterns, alimentary canal, gills, branchiostegal rays and teeth. The premordial spinous fin ray of the first dorsal fin appears at the newly hatched larva of around 2.70mm in total length, the second spinous ray at around 5.82mm, and the third spinous ray at around 6.45 nm. Premordial fin rays which develope as a semicircle to cudgel form of the ventral fin appear posterior to the pectoral fin at the larva of around 2.70mm in total length. When the larvae grow up to 6.35mm in total length, the length of the ventral fin is more or less half of the total length of the body. In the early stages$(2.70\~3.75mm)$ melanophores are scattered irregularly on the tail . In the later stages(4.25mm) melanophores are aggregated to form three black spots on medio-lateral part of the tail. The newly hatched larvae have the premordial alimentary canal with mouth and intestine. With decreasing yolk mass the intestine appears more distinctly with curvature, and mouth seems to open. Gills appear at the larvae of 6.35mm in total length; branchiostegal rays appear at the larvae of 6.45mm. Teeth appear at the larvae of 6.25mm.

The auther studied clinically and. radiologically 48 cases which had been diagnosed as TMJ ankylosis in SNUDH (1974-1984). The purpose of this study is to analyse clinical features of TMJ ankylosis and to evaluate the effect of TMJ ankylosis on the growth of the mandible. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Total 48 cases of TMJ ankylosis patients consist of 23 males and 25 females. 65 percent of all cases of TMJ ankylosis occurred in patients between 1 and 10 years of age. The awerage age at the onset of ankylosis was 11.7 and average duration at the time of examination was 11.7 years. 2. Unilateral akylosis (81.3%) was more frequent than bilateral ankylosis (18.7%). 3. Traum a (57.9%) and infection (21.2%) were main etiology. 4. Inability to open the mouth (78.3%) and facial asymmetry (17.4%) were main chief complaints. 5. Mandibular morphology through radiographic features. (a) In TMJ ankylosis patients the ramus length of the ankylosed side was shorter than that of the non-ankylosed side. Comparing with the centrol group, ramus length of the each side was shorter than normal value. (b) The partial body length of the ankylosed side was longer than that of the non-ankylosed side. Comparing with the control group, partial body length of the each side was longer than normal value. Partial body length was related with antegonial notch depth. (c) Ratio of upper and lower ramus length at the level of mandibular foramen was smaller in ankylosed side than in non-ankylosed side. (d) Antegonial notch depth and ramus posterior contour depth were deeper in ankylosed side than in non-ankylosed side and those of both sides were deeper than normal value. (e) Gonial angle in ankylosed side was larger than in non-ankylosed side and that in both sides was smaller than normal value.
The purpose of this study was to identify the difference of vertical movement of mandible according to Angle's molar relationship and by skeletal factors affect to vertical movement of mandible. 172(age ranged from 20 to 30) subjects who go to college within territory of Kwangju city without any experience of temporomandibular disorder, extraction and orthodontic treatment. were selected for this study. The subjects were classified into class I(male:30, female:49), class II(male:18, female:24) and class III(male:18, female:33) according to Angle's molar relationship. The distance was measured between incisal edge of maxillary and mandibular central incisor and between bottom of central fossa of maxillary and mandibular 1st molar with ruler. The arch length and width were measured on the diagnostic cast. Cephalometrics were taken and then traced. Landmarks were identified and analyzed. 1. Maximal interincisal opening of male is larger than that of female in class I, class II and class III. Among each group maximal interincisal distance is the largest in class III. Maximal intermolar distance of male is superior to that of female in class I, class II, and class III, but there is no siginficant difference among them. 2. On maximal opening movement of Angle's classification class I and class II, total mandibular length, mandibular ramal length, madibular inferior border length and upper arch width were important variables and facial length, upper arch length and lower arch length had negative relationship to that. On maximal opening movement of Angle's class III, the upper arch length, the lower arch length and anterior facial length were important variables especially when compared with class I and II, and upper arch width had negative relationship. These results suggest that maximal opening movement is affected by facial morphology in all classes, but each group is affected by different facial skeletal variables. Accordingly, facioskeletal variables might be considered as diagnosis and treatment to improve the amount of mouth opening.
Objectives: Facial diagnosis is an important part of clinical diagnosis in traditional East Asian Medicine. In this paper, using a fully automated facial shape analysis system, we show that facial morphological features are associated with cold pattern. Methods: The facial morphological features calculated from 68 facial landmarks included the angles, areas, and distances between the landmark points of each part of the face. Cold pattern severity was determined using a questionnaire and the cold pattern scores (CPS) were used for analysis. The association between facial features and CPS was calculated using Pearson's correlation coefficient and partial correlation coefficients. Results: The upper chin width and the lower chin width were negatively associated with CPS. The distance from the center point to the middle jaw and the distance from the center point to the lower jaw were negatively associated with CPS. The angle of the face outline near the ear and the angle of the chin line were positively associated with CPS. The area of the upper part of the face and the area of the face except the sensory organs were negatively associated with CPS. The number of facial morphological features that exhibited a statistically significant correlation with CPS was 37 (unadjusted). Conclusions: In this study of a Korean population, subjects with a high CPS had a more pointed chin, longer face, more angular jaw, higher eyes, and more upward corners of the mouth, and their facial sensory organs were relatively widespread.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the bacterial morphology attached on ultrasonic scaler tips using no cleansing solution, alcohol cotton, liquid chemical disinfecting agent, and autoclave method. Methods: Scaling tip was applied to the mouth and the ultrasonic scaler tips were assigned to four groups. Group 1 was control group with no cleansing solution. Group 2 was treated with alcohol cotton. Group 3 was treated with 2% green Y-Na solution in liquid chemical disinfecting agent, and Group 4 was sterilized by autoclave method. Live bacteria were observed by phase contrast microscopy. The scanning electron microscopy(SEM) revealed the morphological characteristics of scaler surface. The type of attached bacteria were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. The data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Tukey's post-hoc test. Results: The types of sterilization methods had influences on the bacterial viability. The numbers of cocci, bacilli, spiral form bacteria, and filamentous bacteria was observed in $89.00{\pm}3.60%$, $29.67{\pm}3.51%$, $3.33{\pm}0.57%$ and $1.67{\pm}0.57%$ in control group, $31.67{\pm}3.51%$, $63.33{\pm}4.04%$, $2.00{\pm}1.00%$ and $1.67{\pm}0.57%$ in alcohol cotton group, $69.67{\pm}4.50%$, $12.33{\pm}2.51%$, 0% and 0% in liquid chemical disinfecting agent group, and 0.0%, 0.0%, 0.0% and 0.0% in autoclave method group. The clean surface of ultrasonic scaler tip was shown on SEM by autoclave method. Conclusions: The most effective sterilization method of ultrasonic scaler tip was the autoclave method. Autoclave method is the most effective sterilization method and can reduce the cross-infection in the dental clinic.
The matured female and male of A. signifer differed in external morphology and body color. There were significant differences in PAD, PAB, PMP and PQR between matured female and male. Green color was very widely distributed in whole as nuptial color, that is similar to green and cyan color in the body part, yellow color in the ventral part and red and yellow color in the tail part. The nuptial organ of A. signifer was formed in a cluster on the horny substance of both sides above the mouth. There were 25~30 nuptial organs in a side. The nuptial organs disappeared with crumbling down from middle part of nuptial organ after spawning period. The nuptial organs disappeared mostly in September as non spawning period and a part of the nuptial organs remained as a vestige in the edges of both sides.
In order to monitor the developmental features of embryos, larvae, and juveniles of Oryzias latipes (Temminck and Schlegel), Oryzias latipes was caught in river of Shinduck-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, on May 2011, and experiments were carried out in Ichthyology laboratory at Chonnam National University. The blastodisc step was the first level for natural spawning. The optic vesicle, Kupffer's vesicle, myotome began to appear 75 hours 57 minutes later. After blastodisc development, the pectoral fins were made at 143 hours 37 minutes and the tail was separated started at the same time. Hatching was observed at 167 hours 27 minutes after blastodisc. The total length of the hatched larvae was 4.95~5.10 mm (mean, 5.01 mm), the mouth and anus were opened. Larvae used yolk completely after 3 days after hatching. The total length larvae was 5.45~5.56 mm (mean, 5.52 mm) after 8 days after hatching, and appeared the stems for tail. The stems pectoral, anal fin were showed after 14 days and the stems dorsal, ventral fin were appeared after 19 days. For 35 days after hatching, the total length of larvae 13.95~15.30 mm (mean, 14.64 mm), and at this time, fins and body were transferred like the adult Oryzias latipes.
This study was performed to observe the susceptibility of dogs and cats as definitive hosts of Paragonimus ilektsuenensis. The metacercariae of this luke were obtained from Sesarma dehaani collected at a focus near the mouth of Sumjin river in November, 1986 and February, 1987. The larvae isolated from the crabs were introduced Per os into 7 albino rats, 2 dogs and 3 cats. The adults were recovered from the experimental animals, End they were morphologically observed and measured. The results were as follows: 1. The recovery rate of adult worms at 42 days after infection was 53.3% from three albino rats, 21.0% from a dog and 12.7% from two cats. Most of the worms were recovered from the worm capsules in the lungs. 2. The size of worms recovered from albino rats, a dog, and cats 42 days after infection aver-aged $6.3{\times}3.2mm,{\;}6.3{\times}3.0mm,{\;}or{\;}6.2{\times}3.5mm$, respectively. There were little differences in the morphology of worms by different experimental animals. 3. The size of eggs from a dog was $88.9{\times}49.3{\mu\textrm{m}}$, and that from cats was $84.3{\times}53.7{\mu\textrm{m}}$ on average. Dogs and cats were good definitive hosts of p. iloktsuenensis. This fact suggests that human infection by this luke may be possible if the metacercariae were ingested.

The extraction of a face is a very important part for human interface, biometrics and security. In this paper, we applies DCM(Dilation of Color and Motion) filter and Active Contour Models to extract facial outline. First, DCM filter is made by applying morphology dilation to the combination of facial color image and differential image applied by dilation previously. This filter is used to remove complex background and to detect facial outline. Because Active Contour Models receive a large effect according to initial curves, we calculate rotational degree using geometric ratio of face, eyes and mouth. We use edgeness and intensity as an image energy, in order to extract outline in the area of weak edge. We acquire various head-pose images with both eyes from five persons in inner space with complex background. As an experimental result with total 125 images gathered by 25 per person, it shows that average extraction rate of facial outline is 98.1% and average processing time is 0.2sec.
