  • Tidal amplification by construction of the sea-dike and sea-walls had been detected not only near Mokpo Harbor but also at Chungkye Bay which is connected with Mokpo Harbor by a narrow channel. This brings about increase of tidal flat area and in particular increase of surge-wave combined runup during storms. The purpose of this study is to examine an efficient operational model that can be used by civil defense agencies for real-time prediction and fast warnings on wind waves and storm surges. Instead of using commercialized wave models such as WAM, SWAN, the wind waves are simulated by using a new concept of wavelength modulation to enhance broader application of the hyperbolic wave model of the mild-slope equation type. Furthermore, The predicting system is composed of easy and economical tools for inputting depth data of complex bathymetry and enormous tidal flats such as Mokpo coastal zone. The method is applied to Chungkye Bay, and possible inundation features at Mokpo Harbor are analyzed.

  • The change of water level at Mokpo Harbour and its adjacent coastal area due to the construction of the Youngsan Estuary Barrage and the Third Land Reclamation Work of estuary barren had been roughly expected. Periodical floods, which occur 2 times per month, are also being observed at the low lying commercial areas near the Mokpo Old Harbor. Although it is said that the highest tidal current component among the tidal current records at the approaching channel to Mokpo Harbor is reduced to 6 kts, because of the esturary barrage, they do not give any precise statement or a deep analysis for the flooding and periodical water level change under certain environmental conditions. Moreover, they never tried the analysis of development plan considering the natural disaster such as typhoon or other extreme conditions. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality , etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition. This study deals the problem of the water level change among the integrated analyses of the coastal area changes.   • A method has been developed, which can be handled easily and economically for inputting depth data of complex bathymetry and enourmous tidal flats such as Mokpo coastal zone. The method is applied to Chungkye Bay, and some hydrodynamic features related with tidal flat are analyzed. Tidal amplification by construction of the sea-dike and sea-walls had been detected not only near Mokpo Harbor but also at Chungkye Bay which is connected with Mokpo Harbor by a narrow channel. This brings about the increase of tidal flat area, which makes the ebb dominance at Chungkye Bay more seriously. This pronounced ebb dominance with the increase of tidal discharge at the channel between Chungkye Bay and Mokpo Harbor, which results in deepened ebb dominance near Mokpo Harbor as well.

  • Tidal amplification by construction of sea-dike and sea-walls had been detected not only near Mokpo North Harbor but also at Chungkye Bay which is connected with Mokpo North Harbor by a narrow channel. This brings about increase of tidal flat area and in particular increase of runup height and inundation area during storms. In this study, a simulation process is composed of wind wave generation model for large area and wave inundation model for small coastal zone. The nonlinear version of mild-slope equation is modified for simulating wind-driven surge and wave inundation at a small area. The models are applied to Chungkye Bay, and possible inundation features at Mokpo North Harbor are investigated.

  • As large waves enter a harbor, during their propagation, the motions a floating body are large and if may even be damaged by waves. This phenomenon may be caused by harbor resonance, resulting from large motion at low wave frequency, which is close to the natural frequency of a vessel. In order to calculate the motion of a floating body in a harbor, it is necessary to use the wave forces containing the body-harbor interference. The simulation program to predict the motions of a floating body by waves in a harbor is developed, and this program is based on the method of velocity potential contiuation method proposed by Ijima and Yoshida The calculated results are shown by the variation of wave frequency, wave angle, and the position of a floating body.

  • This study is the visually identification lighting for easy to distinguish using colors LED on AtoN facility in harbor gate, which have realized a controller for certainly express the gate of harbor by red light and green light of both sides a harbor and for synchronization at a time of right and left or sequential the harbor guidance light through synchronizer or timer by GPS. There is expectation effect that is prevent a confusion about distinguish of facility by ship's operator and to beautify a night scene of harbor, which is expressed to identification lighting differ from great many lighting of harbor with variable color lighting the lighthouse body and vertical layer color lighting using LED. Especially the function of AtoN is displayed for harbor safety message by CW lighting, and this system is the power consumption greatly reduce by candle alternated high light LED.

A Two-dimensional Hydraulic Analysis Considering the Influence of River Inflow and Harbor Gate in the Bay (Harbor Gate와 유입하천의 영향을 고려한 만내의 2차원 수리해석)

  • In this study, when seawall or harbor gate is installed for coastal disaster prevention, a two-dimensional water analysis in the bay is carried out to consider the flood amount of river inflow and effect of harbor gate. The Yeongsan river and the port Mokpo area are selcected for the study region. Then, by analyzing the hydraulic characteristics of flood flow of the Yeongsan river, we analysed the compatibility of the results in the two-dimensional hydrodynamic model. A tw-odimensional water analysis were conducted for the four cases considering whether a harbor gate is installed or not, and whether the inland water boundary condition is considered or not, also with open sea boundary condition. The results of the two-dimensional water analysis shows that water level change near the port Mokpo area is mainly caused by the discharge of the estuary barrage of the Yeongsan river because the harbor gate was installed. In addition, it is revealed that the volume of reservoir created by the harbor gate and the estuary barrage is too much small compared to the volume of the discharge from the Yeongsan river. Therefore, when the harbor gate is installed in the open sea, we concluded that a flexible management between the harbor gate and the estuary barrage of the Yeongsan river is required. A initial water level of the bay and outflow from the harbor gate are proposed for disaster prevention in the coastal area of port Mokpo.

  • Recently, many ships such as fishing boats, cargo ships, high speed ferry boats are visiting Mokpo harbor. In particular, many marine accidents rave been occurred at this area because of the narrow channel, a thick fog, the existing of the shallow waters etc. However there is no suitable ships' routeing system which takes account of today's traffic situations in this area. This study aims at the settling of hazardous factors to mitigate the danger to vessels in mokpo harbor and to secure the safety qf maritime environment.

  • This study on the methode is easied to distinguish with emotional visual lighting on AtoN facility using 3colors LED, and which is controlled to on-off switching of approach light in shore or harbor. The identification have easied to provide a differentiation between the AtoN facility of red and white light and surrounding light in harbor both sides. And the integrated controller have designed to left-right and serial sequential lighting system for harbor guidance using the GPS synchronous or timer. There is expectation effect that is prevent a confusion about distinguish of facility by ship's operator and to beautify a night scene of harbor, which is expressed to emotional identification lighting and variable color lighting on AtoN body by vertical layer color lighting using LED. In addition, the performance of AtoN is implemented to display with guidance light the harbor safety message by morse code lighting. Effectiveness of system is enhanced that age and power consumption reduce by candle alternated high light LED.
