  • Recently 'full browsing service' is growing rapidly throughout the world. This service allows mobile phone users to access websites using their mobile phone as they do using a PC. Despite the rapid expansion of the mobile phone market, however, criteria or scales for evaluating the new services are being developed slowly and far behind the current demand trends. Thus, this study proposed a customer satisfaction evaluation model for full browsing services through empirical research. The proposed model is expected to derive and suggest key factors that users consider important in full browsing services and those factors can be used in developing marketing strategies for maintaining existing customers and creating new customers.

  • This paper aims to empirically examine how personal characteristics and social influence affect user acceptance of mobile web browsing service. To examine the intention to use mobile web browsing service, we applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which has been widely used to explain and predict the IT acceptance to this study. This research also includes personal characteristics such as computer self-efficacy, mobile self-efficacy, and personal innovativeness in IT and social influences such as subjective norms, image, and visibility as the external variables of the TAM. The results indicate that computer self-efficacy do not directly influence ease of use, but indirectly through mobile self-efficacy. And the results indicate that mobile self-efficacy and personal innovativeness in IT have direct effects on ease of use. Empirical results also show that subjective norms and image affect usefulness. Additional theoretical and practical implications of these findings are also discussed in the paper.

  • Mobile web browsing services that bring the full PC browsing experience to customer's mobile handset have been emerged. This study is to investigate the intention to use mobile web browsing based on Technology Acceptance Model(TAM) which has been widely used to explain and predict the IT acceptance and incorporated with self-efficacy which was identified as an important determinant of user's new technology adoption in recent literature on technology acceptance. Specifically, from a theoretical perspective, this study not only clarifies mobile self-efficacy, but also develops an instrument to measure the concept of mobile self-efficacy. The results indicate that both computer self-efficacy and mobile self-efficacy directly influence perceived ease of use, and that perceived ease of use enhance perceived usefulness. And the findings indicate that perceived ease of use and usefulness have direct effects on attitude and then it is positively associated with intention to use mobile web browsing. Therefore, the findings imply that mobile self-efficacy can be employed as an important variable in examining user's intention for various mobile services to come in future.

  • This study tested how the mobile impulse buying(m-impulse buying) of fashion products was related to shopping motives and mobile applications(apps) browsing in the context of mobile shopping. A total of 316 self-administered questionnaires were obtained from college students who had experienced m-impulse buying of fashion products during the most recent six months. A structural equation model using a correlation matrix with maximum likelihood was estimated for examining the relationships among shopping motives(e.g., hedonic shopping motive and utilitarian shopping motive), apps browsing, and m-impulse buying of fashion products(e.g., fashion-oriented impulse buying and pure impulse buying) by AMOS 21.0. Findings showed that hedonic shopping motive and utilitarian shopping motive had significant effects on apps browsing in their mobile shopping. Apps browsing had a significant effect on fashion-oriented impulse buying, but did not significantly effect on pure impulse buying of fashion products. Additionally, the hedonic shopping motive had directly significant effects on both fashion-oriented impulse buying and pure impulse buying, whereas the utilitarian shopping motive significantly effected on only the pure impulse buying of fashion products in their shopping. This study suggests that the hedonic shopping motive played an important role to determine the m-impulse buying of fashion products and the utilitarian shopping motive played a role in activating apps browsing relevant to mobile shopping for fashion products. Managerial implications are discussed for retailers related to the fashion products in mobile shopping.

  • In this paper, a user-friendly mobile photo album system and albuming functions to support it are introduced. Stand-alone implementation in a mobile device is considered. The main idea of user-friendly photo browsing for albuming functions is to enable users to organize and browse their photos along semantically meaningful axes of events, personal identities, and categories. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method would be sufficiently useful and efficient for browsing personal photos in mobile environment.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the feasibility of a motion-based interaction for image browsing in the mobile device. We present the design of a motion-based interface and a navigation scheme. A designed interaction scheme was evaluated in a usability experiment alongside the conventional button-based interaction for image browsing. After enough training of user, the usability and the user task performance of the motion based interaction were significantly increased, approaching those of the button based interaction.

  • Since the third generation (3G) mobile communication service has been launched by most mobile communication operators in Korea, the portion of data service in mobile communication service becomes one of the most important factors in mobile communication service market. In past mobile communication market, most mobile communication operators made their profit mostly from voice communication service. However, the portion of profit from data service has gradually increased based on both video phone call and mobile Internet service. In this situation, LG telecom launched the full browsing mobile Internet service. This service provides a new type of mobile Internet service platform which enables to access the World Wide Web using mobile browsers, so we generally access the Web using web browsers in the desktop computer. Under the open network structure of mobile Internet like situation, it is very important to analyze the factors which can affect the competition between mobile communication service companies. So, in this paper, we first present the current state of full browsing service, followed by the expectation of its growth potentials and barriers. Then, we analyze the advantages and disadvantage of LG telecom as a first-mover and SK telecom/KTF as followers. Finally, based on this analysis, we predict the future competition among these companies and the market.

  • Impulse buying occurs when consumers feel an urge to impulsively buy a product without thoughtful consideration of why and for what reason they need the product. However, few efforts have been made to identify the impacts of perceived scarcity on the impulse buying of fashion products in mobile shopping malls. This study's objectives were to estimate, using structural equation model analysis, the impact of a scarcity message on browsing, feeling the urge to buy, and impulse buying of fashion products on mobile shopping malls. Data was collected from 206 customers who experienced to impulse buying fashion products via objective sampling. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses developed for the study. Results found evident effects of the scarcity message on the impulse buying of fashion products directly and indirectly. Additionally, consumers felt the urge to buy had a significant impact on the impulse buying of fashion products, whereas browsing had little impact on the impulse buying of fashion products. This is an expanded study to examine structural equation modeling of impulse buying of fashion products on mobile shopping malls. These results will contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms that underlie the operation of an effective scarcity strategy for fashion products on mobile shopping malls.

  • Most recent mobile devices can store a massive amount of images. However, the typical user interface of mobile devices, such as a small-size 2D display and discrete-input buttons, make the browsing and manipulation of images cumbersome and time-consuming. As an alternative, we adopt motion-based interaction along with a 3D layout of images, expecting such an intuitive and natural interaction may facilitate the tasks. We designed and implemented a motion-based interaction scheme for image browsing using an ultra mobile PC, and evaluated and compared its usability to that of the traditional button-based interaction. The effects of data layouts (tiled and fisheye cylindrical layouts) were also investigated to see whether they can enhance the effectiveness of the motion based interaction.
