This paper focuses on detecting abnormal patterns of respiration of humans. In this study, a contact-based device was used to acquire both normal and abnormal respiration signals. To this end, this paper reports the development of a monitoring system to investigate the respiratory status of humans in a normal environment. This work aims to classify the respiratory status, i.e., normal and abnormal status, quantitatively. The respiration signal is acquired using a contact-based medical device (BIOBPAC), and noise reduction is carried out before classifying the respiratory status. To reduce noise, a mixed filter that combines the Savitzky-Golay filter and Median filter is applied to the acquired respiration signals. The inter-class distance is maximized, and the intra-class distance is minimized. The proposed algorithm is straightforward and can be applied to a practical environment. In addition, the experimental results are provided to substantiate the proposed approach.

The performance of existing CDMA-type multiple access data transmission systems is limited by interferences due to adverse mobile communication channel characteristics. Among them, the multi-user interference becomes one of the major performance degradation factors because the signal-to-signal orthogonality can be easily perturbed when numerous user signals are distorted by multipath fading channels and mixed together. In order to enhance the performance of CDMA-type systems by suppressing the multi-user interference, we have adopted chip-based cyclic prefix insertion along with adaptive one-tap DFE equalization into MC-DS-CDMA, which is known for its robustness in the frequency selective multipath fading channel environment. In order to assess the performance of the proposed system, a set of computer simulations is performed in the reverse link in which each user signal undergoes different multipath Rayleigh fading. The results show us a superior performance of our system over other CDMA systems in terms of SNR to BER measurements.

Integrated humidity sensor system with two stages operational amplifier has been designed and fabricated by $0.8{\mu}m$ analog mixed CMOS technology. The system (28 pin and $2mm{\times}4mm$) consisted of Wheatstone-bridge type humidity sensor, resistive type humidity sensor, temperature sensors and operational amplifier for signal amplification and process in one chip. The poly-nitride etch stop process has been tried to form the sensing area as well as trench in a standard CMOS process. This modified technique did not affect the CMOS devices in their essential characteristics and gave an allowance to fabricate the system on same chip by standard process. The operational amplifier showed the stable operation so that unity gain bandwidth was more than 5.46 MHz and slew rate was more than 10 V/uS, respectively. The drain current of n-channel humidity sensitive field effect transistor (HUSFET) increased from 0.54 mA to 0.68 mA as the relative humidity increased from 10 to 70 %RH.
Noise estimation and detection algorithm to adapt quickly to changing noise environment using the LMS Filter. However, the LMS Filter for noise estimation for a certain period of time and need time to adapt. If the signal changes occur, have the disadvantage of being more adaptive time-consuming. Therefore, noise removal method is proposed to a frame basis AELMS Filter to compensate. In this paper, we split the input signal on a frame basis in noisy environments. Remove the LMS Filter by configuring noise predictions using the mean and variance. Noise, even if the environment changes fast adaptation time to remove the noise. Remove noise and environmental noise and speech input signal is mixed to maintain the unique characteristics of the voice is a way to reduce the damage of voice information. Noise removal method using a frame basis AELMS Filter To evaluate the performance of the noise removal. Experimental results, the attenuation obtained by removing the noise of the changing environment was improved by an average of 6.8dB.
This paper introduces a new P wave arrival time determination algorithm of acoustic emission (AE) suitable to identify P waves with low signal-to-noise ratio generated in rock masses around the high-level radioactive waste disposal repositories. The algorithms adopted for this paper were amplitude threshold picker, Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), two step AIC, and Hinkley criterion. The elastic waves were generated by Pencil Lead Break test on a granite sample, then mixed with white noise to make it difficult to distinguish P wave artificially. The results obtained from amplitude threshold picker, AIC, and Hinkley criterion produced relatively large error due to the low signal-to-noise ratio. On the other hand, two step AIC algorithm provided the correct results regardless of white noise so that the accuracy of source localization was more improved and could be satisfied with the error range.

In this paper, we conduct performance analysis in automatic modulation classification of unknown communication signal to identify its modulation types based on deep neural network. The modulation classification performance was verified using time domain digital sample data of the modulated signal, frequency domain data to which FFT was applied, and time and frequency domain mixed data as neural network input data. For 11 types of analog and digitally modulated signals, the modulation classification performance was verified in various SNR environments ranging from -20 to 18 dB and reason for false classification was analyzed. In addition, by checking the learning speed according to the type of input data for neural network, proposed method is effective for constructing an practical automatic modulation recognition system that require a lot of time to learn.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the magnetic resonance (MR) characteristics and applicability of new, uniform, extremely small iron-based nanoparticles (ESIONs) with 3-4-nm iron cores using contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Materials and Methods: Seven types of ESIONs were used in phantom and animal experiments with 1.5T, 3T, and 4.7T scanners. The MR characteristics of the ESIONs were evaluated via phantom experiments. With the ESIONs selected by the phantom experiments, animal experiments were performed on eight rabbits. In the animal experiments, the in vivo kinetics and enhancement effect of the ESIONs were evaluated using half-diluted and non-diluted ESIONs. The between-group differences were assessed using a linear mixed model. A commercially available gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) was used as a control. Results: All ESIONs showed a good T1 shortening effect and were applicable for MRA at 1.5T and 3T. The relaxivity ratio of the ESIONs increased with increasing magnetic field strength. In the animal experiments, the ESIONs showed peak signal intensity on the first-pass images and persistent vascular enhancement until 90 minutes. On the 1-week follow-up images, the ESIONs were nearly washed out from the vascular structures and organs. The peak signal intensity on the first-pass images showed no significant difference between the non-diluted ESIONs with 3-mm iron cores and GBCA (p = 1.000). On the 10-minutes post-contrast images, the non-diluted ESIONs showed a significantly higher signal intensity than did the GBCA (p < 0.001). Conclusion: In the phantom experiments, the ESIONs with 3-4-nm iron oxide cores showed a good T1 shortening effect at 1.5T and 3T. In the animal experiments, the ESIONs with 3-nm iron cores showed comparable enhancement on the first-pass images and superior enhancement effect on the delayed images compared to the commercially available GBCA at 3T.
While most or fixed-time control systems such as UTCS produce the signal timing plans that either maximizing bandwidth or minimizing a disutility index of delay and stops, cannot consider the fluctuation of traffic flow. One category of the traffic-response control systems, which make small changes on a predefined signal plan such as SCOOT, cannot be easily modified for feedback real-time control schemes based on observation of variables other than traffic flow. The other category, which decide to whether switch the traffic lights or not at each step of time as in PRODYN, does not adequately consider the relations between traffic flows and traffic lights at each step of time. In this paper we present a complete formulation that adequately consider the relations between traffic flows and traffic lights at each step of time. The formulation is a binary mixed integer linear programing (BMILP) that obtain traffic lights at each step for minimizing delay. Since numarical examples for application of the proposed model illustrated that the model adequately produced dynamic traffic signal plans minimizing delay at each step, the model may be expected to contribute to advanced transportation management systems (ATMS) for dynamic traffic signal control.

Purpose: Susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) is a new magnetic resonance technique that can exploit the magnetic susceptibility differences of various tissues. Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) looks a dark blooming on the magnitude images of SWI. However, the pattern of ICH on phase images is not well known. The purpose of this study is to characterize hemorrhagic lesions on the phase images of SWI. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients with ICH, who underwent both SWI and precontrast CT, between 2012 and 2013 (n = 95). An SWI was taken, using the 3-tesla system. A phase map was generated after postprocessing. Cases with an intracranial hemorrhage were reviewed by an experienced neuroradiologist and a trainee radiologist, with 10 years and 3 years of experience, respectively. The types and stages of the hemorrhages were determined in correlation with the precontrast CT, the T1- and T2-weighted images, and the FLAIR images. The size of the hemorrhage was measured by a one- directional axis on a magnitude image of SWI. The phase values of the ICH were qualitatively evaluated: hypo-, iso-, and hyper-intensity. We summarized the imaging features of the intracranial hemorrhage on the phase map of the SWI. Results: Four types of hemorrhage are observed: subdural and epidural; subarachnoid; parenchymal hemorrhage; and microbleed. The stages of the ICH were classified into 4 groups: acute (n = 34); early subacute (n = 11); late subacute (n = 15); chronic (n = 8); stage-unknown microbleeds (n = 27). The acute and early subacute hemorrhage showed heterogeneous mixed hyper-, iso-, and hypo-signal intensity; the late subacute hemorrhage showed homogeneous hyper-intensity, and the chronic hemorrhage showed a shrunken iso-signal intensity with the hyper-signal rim. All acute subarachnoid hemorrhages showed a homogeneous hyper-signal intensity. All parenchymal hemorrhages (> 3 mm) showed a dipole artifact on the phase images; however, microbleeds of less than 3 mm showed no dipole artifact. Larger hematomas showed a heterogeneous mixture of hyper-, iso-, and hypo-signal intensities. Conclusion: The pattern of the phase value of the SWI showed difference, according to the type, stage, and size.

In electronic warfare, the pulse amplitude, one of information of a pulse signal emitted by an enemy, is used for estimating distance from the source and for deinterleaving mixed source signals. An estimate of pulse amplitude is conventionally determined as the maximum magnitude of a Fourier transformed signal within its pulse width which is estimated pre-step in an electronic warfare receiver. However, when frequency modulated signals are received, it is difficult to estimate their pulse amplitudes with this conventional method because the energy of signals is dispersed in frequency domain. In order to overcome this limitation, this paper proposes an enhanced pulse amplitude estimation method which calculates the average power of the received pulse signal in time domain and removes the noise power of the receiver. Simulation results show that even in case the frequency modulated signal is received, the proposed method has the same performance as estimating the pulse amplitude when unmodulated signal is received. In addition, the proposed method is shown to be more robust to an estimation error of pulse width, which affects the estimation performance of pulse amplitude, than the conventional method.
