  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for reducing daily stress and depression and improving happiness in middle-aged women by verifying the effect of daily stress on happiness and the mediating effect of depression. For the analysis, the 8th survey of the Women's Family Panel surveyed by the Korea Women's Policy Institute was used. For the sample, SPSS WIN 25.0 was used for 1,673 married middle-aged women aged 55 to 64. As for the analysis method, frequency, technical statistics, and correlation analysis were performed, and the mediating effect of depression was verified through Baron & Kenny's analysis method. The main analysis results are as follows. First, the stress daily of middle-aged women had a negative (-) effect on happiness. Second, Depression was partially mediated in the relationship between daily stress and happiness in middle-aged women. Based on these results, it is significant in that it presents practical and policy measures and programs that can improve middle-aged women's happiness and lead to old age.

  • Recently, proportion of the aged becomes greater in Korea like the advanced country as time passed away, and this is treated as one of major social problems. Therfore, we investigated visual/auditory signal detection performance to evaluate vocational aptitude of the middle-and old-aged workers in this study. It was shown that signal detection performance decreased as workers became older, and there was large individual difference in signal detection performance. Since signal detection performance in visual task decreased rapidly and more than that in auditory task, the middle-and old-aged workers can not carry out properly visual inspection and precision task was related with that in auditory task. It can be expected that the parameters used in this study are in good use for evaluating a worker's aptitude.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the aging anxiety, factors of successful aging, and preparation for aging in early and late middle-aged people. Methods: The study subjects were 140 middle-aged people aged from 40 to 59. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire from August 16 to September 30, 2013. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test and Pearson correlation coefficient using IBM SPSS 21.0 program. Results: Between early and late middle age, there were statistically significant differences in the subcategories of aging anxiety: fear of loss (t=2.93, p=.004), fear of old people (t=-2.33, p=.021), physical appearance (t=2.32, p=.022), and psychological concerns (t=2.04, p=.043). A statistically significant difference was found between two groups in one subscale of preparation for aging: physical preparation (t=-2.02, p=.045). In early midlife, significant associations were observed between preparation for aging and both aging anxiety (r=.56, p<.001) and factors of successful aging (r=.54, p<.001). In late midlife, preparation for aging and factors of successful aging showed positive correlation (r=.50, p<.001) Conclusion: Results of this study indicate that programs for successful transition to old age in middle-aged people should consider their aging anxiety level and preparation for aging at their stage of life.

  • The need for periodic investigation on human growth rate and somatotypes has been increased because the scientific development and environmental factors have effected a lot on them recently. This study aimed to investigate the changes of the 638 female somatotypes in the age of 18-54 obtained by direct and indirect measurement. The measurement data were divided into 4 groups early young women age group (18-54), late young women age group (25-34), early middle age group (35-44), late middle age group (45-54) and compared each other based on each group by age. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. According to Mollison Curve based on the early young women, items of depth decreased overall and pp.P. length & shoulder length increased as the age increased. The circumference, breadth and thickness tended to increase, especially waist girth and thickness of waist increased markedly. The data showed that the increase rate of thickness was higher than that of breadth. 2. Gradual somatotype changes were observed by overlapping projection drawings obtained by direct measurement. Compared with the young women, the middle aged showed lower should point depth and hip line & crotch depth line were lengthened significantly. No significant difference was observed in overlapping of the early young women and the late young women' figure, neither was in early middle aged and the late middle aged. 3. By overlapping the side view of the young women group (18-37) and middle aged group (35-54), no significant postural characteristics were found, while the back tended to bend forward and the abdomen and hip appeared to get fat.

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the specific clinical risk factors in middle-aged men with age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass (ALSMM). METHODS: The present research analyzed the data from a cross-sectional study of 1,564 community-dwelling participants aged between 40 to 49 years old. The participants were screened for ALSMM. The study examined various risk factors, including age, height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, skeletal muscle mass index, smoking and drinking status, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting glucose levels, and triglyceride and cholesterol levels. RESULTS: The risk factors of ALSMM were height, body mass index, waist circumference, skeletal muscle mass index, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, drinking status, fasting glucose, and triglyceride levels (p < .05). The weight, triglyceride, and smoking status variables were non-significant (p > .05). CONCLUSION: The risk factors for ALSMM among community-dwelling adults were determined. These results are expected to contribute to the existing literature on ALSMM and provide potential risk factors associated with the development of ALSMM in middle-aged males.

  • The purpose of this research paper is to offer basic data for cloth design which is intended to apply appropriate shape and catacity to cloth. Followings are the analyzed result of investigation which was conducted to figure out the character of middle aged from 35 to 59 years old-women body especially in lower half of their body. 177 women took part in this investigation. 1. As a result of analyzed characters for middle aged women body shape, taking a side view of body, there are great variance in thickness coefficient which indicates the size of body. 2. According to a comparison result of early middle aged women body shape with late middle aged women body shape, the value in height items get shorter otherwise the value in thickness items get longer getting older. It means late middle aged women are relatively fat. 3. For the analysis of women body especially in lower half, 8 factors were used. They are as followings. Factor 1. Side thickness of lower half. Factor 2. Width of lower half. Factor 3. Height of lower half Factor 4. Droop of underbelly Factor 5. Salient rate of buttocks. Factor 6. Length of buttocks. Factor 7. Salient rate of underbelly. Factor 8. Droop of buttocks 4. Lower half shapes of middle aged women were divided into three groups and the character of each group are as followings. 〈Group 1〉65.0% of women who took part in this investigation have this type of body shape. They have long value in height items and thickness items. 〈Group 2〉16.4% of women who take part in this investigation were belonged to this group. The value in height items were not so different from group 1 but the thickness value are shorter than group 1. Women of group 2 have slime body shape. 〈Group 3〉18.6% of women were belonged to group 3. They show the shortest value in height items otherwise the longest value in thickness items. Therefore they are the smallest and the fattest group in this investigation.

  • This study is to classify the somatotypes of middle-aged women by many critera and figure out he characteristics of each somatotypes. The subjects are 614 middle-aged women between 35 and 59 years old and the research is based on anthropometric and photometric measurement by photographing their body parts. The results are as follows; 1. The result of factor analysis indicated that 11 factors were extracted through factor analysis and orthogonal rotation by the method of varimax and those factors comprised 85.71 percent of total variance. 2. As the result of cluster analysis the group of the middle-aged women is classified as 6 types. Type 1 is short, fat, H type in front and lean-back type on the side. Type 2 is standard in height and weight. Type 3 is standard height, fat, long upper body, bend-forward type and protrude of the hip on the side. Type 4 is tall, thin, short upper body, having clearly protrude of the back and hip and lean-back type on the side. Type 5 is neither short nor tall, slim, X type in front and I type on the side. Type 6 is tall, thin and B type on the side. 3. As the result of observing the mutual corresponding relation between these 6 groups and age/Rohrers Index, the somatotype of the middle-aged women is divided at the age of 45. Accordingly when it comes to progress the study of the middle-aged women in the future, we will have to observe the characteristics for dividing the first half and the second half of age of 45.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide total data of real body-type and self-evaluation about it. The subjects were 614 middle-aged women between 35 and 59 years old. Data were collected through measurement and a questionnaire survey on self-evaluation. The results of self-evaluation of body are as follows; 1. As the result of the recognition degree analysis, people consider themselves thicker, shorter or smaller than what they really we, regardless of ages and types. In addition, the women of younger group rather than the women of older group consider themselves bigger/thicker and shorter than what they really are. They think that the items of waist girth, abdominal girth, hip girth, upper arm girth. and thigh girth are thicker than the other items, however, among girth items the size of bust girth is smaller than the other items. The women of the late middle-aged group consider their somatotype thicker/bigger and shorter than the women of the early middle-aged group do. 2. As the result of body cathexis for each part, women in general rum out themselves not to be satisfied with their body parts, regardless of ages and types. Particularly, they are not satisfied with abdominal girth, weight, hip girth. According to the age bracket, the women in the older group are more satisfied than the women of younger group in terms of their body. According to somatotype, women in tall and slim groups are more satisfied with their body. The women of the early middle-aged group turn out not to be satisfied with girth items while the women of the late middle-aged group are not satisfied with length items.
