Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were prepared under high temperature and pressure conditions by mixture of metal nitrate solution and $TiO_2$ sol. Fe doped $TiO_2$ particles were reacted in the temperature range of 170 to $200^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. The microstructure and phase of the synthesized Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were studied by SEM (FE-SEM), TEM, and XRD. Thermal properties of the synthesized Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were studied by TG-DTA analysis. TEM and X-ray diffraction pattern shows that the synthesized Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were crystalline. The average size and distribution of the synthesized Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were about 10 nm and narrow, respectively. The average size of the synthesized Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles increased as the reaction temperature increased. The overall reduction in weight of Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles was about 16% up to ${\sim}700^{\circ}C$; water of crystallization was dehydrated at $271^{\circ}C$. The transition of Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticle phase from anatase to rutile occurred at almost $561^{\circ}C$. The amount of rutile phase of the synthesized Fe doped $TiO_2$ nanoparticles increased with decreasing Fe concentration. The effects of synthesis parameters, such as the concentration of the starting solution and the reaction temperature, are discussed.

It is important to develop a simple method oftuning localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR) properties, due to their numerous applications. In addition, the careful examination of the shape, size and combination of metal nanoparticles is useful for understanding the relation between the LSPR properties and metal nanostructures. This article describes the dependence of theLSPR properties on the arrays of metal nanoparticles obtained from a block copolymer(BCP) micellar thin film. Firstly, two different Au nanostructures, having a dot and ring shape, were fabricated using conventional block copolymer micelle lithography. Then, Ag was plated on the Au nanostructures through the silver mirror reaction technique to obtain Au/Ag bimetallic nanostructures. During the production of these metallic nanostructures, the processing factors, such as the pre-treatment by ethanol, silver mirror reaction time and removal or not of the BCP, were varied. Once the Au nanoparticles were synthesized, Ag was properly plated on the Au, providing two distinguishable characteristic plasmonic bands at around 525nm for Au and around 420nm for Ag, as confirmed bythe UV-vis measurements. However, when a small amount of Au seed nanoparticles, which accelerate the Ag plating speed, was formed by usinga block copolymer with a relatively highmolecular weight, all of the Au surfaces were fully covered by Ag during the silver mirror reaction, showing only the characteristic peak for Ag at around 420nm. The Ag plating technique on Au nanoparticles pre-synthesized from a block copolymer is useful to study the LSPR properties carefully.
Chitosan is a natural polymer that has many physicochemical(polycationic, reactive OH and $NH_2$ groups) and biological(bioactive, biocompatible, and biodegradable) properties. In this study, chitosan nanoparticles were prepared using poly-${\gamma}$-glutamic acid(${\gamma}$-PGA) as gelling agent. Nanoparticles were formed by ionic interaction between carboxylic groups in ${\gamma}$-PGA and amino groups in chitosan. Chitosan(0.1~1 g) was dissolved in 100 ml of acetic acid (1% v/v) at room temperature and stirred overnight to ensure a complete solubility. An amount of 0.1 g of ${\gamma}$-PGA was dissolved in 90 ml of distilled water at room temperature. Chitosan solution was dropped through needle into beaker containing ${\gamma}$-PGA solution under gentle stirring at room temperature. The average particle sizes were in the range of 80~300 nm. The prepared chitosan/${\gamma}$-PGA nanoparticles were used to examine their removal of several heavy metal ions($Cd^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, and $Ni^{2+}$) as adsorbents in aqueous solution. The heavy metal removal capacity of the nanoparticles was in the order of $Cu^{2+}$ > $Pb^{2+}$ > $Cd^{2+}$ > $Ni^{2+}$ > $Zn^{2+}$.
We demonstrated the efficacy of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) produced from a low grade iron ore as an adsorbent for the removal of Cr(VI), a toxic heavy metal anion present in wastewater. The adsorption of Cr(VI) by these MNPs strongly depended on the dosage of MNPs, the initial concentration of the Cr(VI) solutions, and pH. The highest Cr(VI) adsorption efficiency of 22.0 mg/g was observed at pH 2.5. The adsorption data were best fit with the Langmuir isotherm and corresponded to a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The used adsorbent was regenerated by eluting in highly alkaline solutions. Sodium bicarbonate showed the highest desorption efficiency of 83.1% among various eluents including NaOH, $Na_2HPO_4$, and $Na_2CO_3$. Due to the high adsorption capacity, the simple magnetic separation, and the high desorption efficiency, this nano-adsorbent produced from inexpensive and abundant resources may attract the attention of the industries to apply for removing various metal anionic contaminants from wastewater.
The $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ nanoparticles about 30 nm were prepared using sol-gel method with metal nitrates dissolved in 2-methoxyathanol. The concentrations of the metal nitrates are adjusted from 0.1 to 0.75 M in order to study the influence on the structural and magnetic properties. The structure and morphology characterization revealed that the crystallinity was improved and the nanoparticle size was increased with the nutrition solution concentrations up to 0.5 M. Degraded crystallinity together with decreased nanoparticle size were observed for concentration of 0.75 M. The saturation magnetization at room temperature reached maximum at 0.5 M, which can be explained by considering the crystallinity and size effect.

Zinc oxide is metal oxide semiconductor with the 3.37 eV bandgap energy. Zinc oxide is very attractive materials for many application fields. Zinc Oxide has many advantages such as high conductivity and good transmittance in visible region. Also it is cheaper than other semiconductor materials such as indium tin oxide (ITO). Therefore, ZnO is alternative material for ITO. ZnO is attracting attention for its application to transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films, surface acoustic wave (SAW), films bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR), piezoelectric materials, gas-sensing, solar cells and photocatalyst. In this study, we synthesized ZnO nanoparticles and defined their physical and chemical properties. Also we studied about the application of ZnO nanoparticles as a photocatalyst and try to find a enhancement photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanorticles.. We synthesized ZnO nanoparticles using spray-pyrolysis method and defined the physical and optical properties of ZnO nanoparticles in experiment I. When the ZnO are exposed to UV light, reduction and oxidation (REDOX) reaction will occur on the ZnO surface and generate O2- and OH radicals. These powerful oxidizing agents are proven to be effective in decomposition of the harmful organic materials and convert them into CO2 and H2O. Therefore, we investigated that the photocatalytic activity was increased through the surface modification of synthesized ZnO nanoparticles. In experiment II, we studied on the stability of ZnO nanoparticles in water. It is well known that ZnO is unstable in water in comparison with TiO2. Zn(OH)2 was formed at the ZnO surface and ZnO become inactive as a photocatalyst when ZnO is present in the solution. Therefore, we prepared synthesized ZnO nanoparticles that were immersed in the water and dried in the oven. After that, we measured photocatalytic activities of prepared samples and find the cause of their photocatalytic activity changes.
Metal nanoparticles have been intensively studied within the past decade. Nano-sized materials have been an important subject in basic and applied sciences. Zinc oxide nanoparticles have received considerable attention due to their unique antibacterial, antifungal, and UV filtering properties, high catalytic and photochemical activity. In this study, microbiological aspects of scale formation in PVC pipelines bacteria and fungi were isolated. In the emerging issue of increased multi-resistant properties in water borne pathogens, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticle are being used increasingly as antimicrobial agents. Thus, the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) and minimum fungal concentration of ZnO nanoparticles towards pathogens microbe were examined in this study. The results obtained suggested that ZnO nanoparticles exhibit a good anti fungal activity than bactericidal effect towards all pathogens tested in in-vitro disc diffusion method (170 ppm, 100 ppm and 30 ppm). ZnO nanoparticles can be a potential antimicrobial agent due to its low cost of production and high effectiveness in antimicrobial properties, which may find wide applications in various industries to address safety issues. Stable ZnO nanoparticles were prepared and their shape and size distribution characterized by Dynamic light scattering (35.7 nm) and transmission electron microscopic TEM study for morphology identification (20 nm), UV-visible spectroscopy (230 nm), X-ray diffraction (FWHM of more intense peak corresponding to 101 planes located at $36.33^{\circ}$ using Scherrer's formula), FT-IR (Amines, Alcohols, Carbonyl and Nitrate ions), Zeta potential (-28.8). The antimicrobial activity of ZnO nanoparticles was investigated against Bacteria and Fungi present in drinking water PVC pipelines biofilm. In these tests, Muller Hinton agar plates were used and ZnO nanoparticles of various concentrations were supplemented in solid medium.
We present disordered moth eye structures on curved surfaces fabricated by dry etching of thermally dewetted metal nanoparticles. This lithography-free fabrication allows the formation of subwavelength scale nanostructures on the strongly inclined surfaces such as ball lens as well as on the microlens arrays with low curvature. In particular, we found that the size and average distance of nanostructures are closely related to the inclined angle of the surface. Experimental results on oblique angle deposition of metal thin films followed by thermal dewetting also support these effects.

Metal-containing carbon nanocomposites have shown significance promise in the area of energy storage, heterogeneous catalysis and material science because of their morphology and combined properties. Phosphorus-doped carbon nanocomposites with gold nanoparticles were developed by applying a simple impregnation method and metal deposition technique. Gold-phosphorus supported carbon nanocomposites with two sized (25 and 170 nm) were prepared from economical petroleum pitch residue as the carbon source using an advanced silica template method. These nanocomposites will lead to the novel applications in the field of material science with the combined properties of gold, phosphorus and carbon. The newly prepared gold phosphorus supported carbon nanocomposites were fully characterized using a range of different physico-chemical techniques.
Hybrid thin film nanostructures composed of metal nanoparticles (NPs) and self-assembled polymer films with different spatial distributions of NPs were analyzed by optical waveguide spectroscopy (OWS). Specifically, the dielectric constants were calculated using effective medium theory for the incorporation of 1 vol% Au NP into the block copolymer (BCP) films having a cylindrical nanodomain morphology. Three cases were considered: uniform distribution of NPs in the film; selective distribution of NPs only in the cylindrical domains; and segregation of NPs to the center of the cylindrical domains. The optical waveguide spectra derived from the calculated dielectric constants demonstrate the feasibility of experimentally distinguishing the composite nanostructures with different inner morphologies in the hybrid metal NP-BCP nanostructures, by the measurement of the dielectric constants using OWS.
