  • Korean fauna mites in the family Parasitidae of Mesostigmata were reported as 6 genera, 22 species. Among those 20 species were recorded from Northern part of Korea by Athias-Henriot (1977; 1980), Daele (1975) and Tichomirov (1977), but two from Southern part of Korea by Choi (1994) and Korean zoological record (KSSZ, 1997). During the faunal study of soil predatory mites of diverse habitats in South Korea, four species of P. beta, P. fimetorum, P. insignis and Poecilochirus carabi are the new records to Korean peninsula. Taxonomic details and other biological characteristics are reported.

  • 32 mite species are listed from the Korean Peninsula. One species belongs to the order Prostigmata, family Cryptognathidae, the order Mesostigmata has 20 species and the order Oribatida contains 11 species. Four species from the listed 32 are new for the fauna of the Korean Peninsula, one species belongs to the order Prostigmata (Favognathus maritimus (Shiba, 1969)) and three new species are Oribatida [Camisia biurus (Koch, 1839), Camisia biverrucata (Koch, 1839), Camisia horrida (Hermann, 1804)]. The 28 of the found species are collected in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; the others were collected in the area of Republic of Korea. Illustrations and short descriptions about the newly found and rarely collected species are given.

  • Mites in the family Parasitidae (Mesostigmata) are important predators in soil ecosystem. During the soil acarine biodiversity study from diverse habitats in the Republic of Korea, we found newly recording species of parasitid mites of genus Cycetogamasus and Neogamasus. This paper reports two species Cycetogamasus coreanus and C. corculatus of genus Cycetogamasus and five species Neogamasus eogenualis, N. tikhomirovi, N. laciniatus, Neogamasus kengicus and Neogamasus mahunkai of genus Neogamasus as new record in the Republic of Korea.

  • This study includes the taxonomy, description, and a key to species of mites in the Family Zerconidae(Acari, Mesostigmata) from the Korean Peninsula. Materials examined and information gathered were based on 1,020 specimens which has been collected nation-wide from April, 1994 to May, 2000. As a result of this study, the following 8 species were identified : Exhinozercon orientalis Blazak, 1975, Eurozercon pacificus Halaskova, 1979, Kaikiozercon mamillosus Halaksova, 1979, Kaikiozercon peregrinus Halaskova, 1979, Koreozercon bacatus Halaskova, 1979, Mesozercon coeranus Blaszak, 1975, Mesozercon plumatus (Aoki, 1966), Zercon szeptyckii Blaszak, 1976. Predominant species was Zercon szeptyckii which has been collected more then 600 specimens at 25 localities in the Korea Peninsula. Seven species except Mesozercon plumatus(Aoki, 1966) had been recorded from North Korea but newly recorded from the southern part of Korean Penunsula.

A total of 19 of the previously unreported species were collected in soil samples from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), while 13 species were collected from soil samples from the Republic of Korea (ROK). Only two species were found in both the DPRK and the ROK. Illustrations and short descriptions for previously unreported species provided.

  • Mites in the family Ascidae are soil dwelling predators of small insects which would have potential to be used as biological control agent. In Korea, 10 genera of 24 species were recorded in the family. During the soil acarine biodiversity study, Asca bicornis Canestrini & Fanzago, 1877 was discovered from moss habitat on Muljangori craer lake 936 m alt in Hallasan mountain in Jeju which was designated as UNESCO Biosphere reserve and World herigate site. We reports this as a new record to Korean Mesostigmata fauna, and provide the morphological description. This species has morphologically characteristic as all dorsal setae nude and needle shaped, lateral caudal projection of Z4 shaped, which are different from the con-general species of A. aphidioides.
