Background: This study aimed to research the awareness of screening colonoscopy (SC) among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and their relatives. Methodology: A questionnaire form including information and behavior about colonoscopic screening for CRCs of patients and their first-degree relatives (FDRs) was prepared. Results: A total of 406 CRC patients were enrolled into the study, with 1534 FDRs (siblings n: 1381 and parents n: 153). Positive family history for CRC was found in 12% of the study population. Previous SC was performed in 11% of patients with CRC. Mean age of the patients whose FDRs underwent SC was lower than the patients whose FDRs did not (52 vs 57 years; p<0,001). The frequency of SC in FDRs was 64% in patients diagnosed CRC under 35 years of age. Persons having a positive family history of CRC had SC more often (51 vs 22%, p<0,001). FDRs of patients having a higher educational level and income had SC more frequently. Conclusions: When screening for CRC is planned, elderly subjects, those with family history for CRC, and those with low educational and lower income should be given esspecial attention in order that they be convinced to undergo screening for CRC.

Objectives : We investicated correlation between Yangdorak and Meridian at Idiopathic facial nerve paralysis patients. Methods : For Yangdorak examination, We made a comparison between 21 patients who were diagnosticated to Idiopathic facial nerve paralysis and 22 persons who were not. Results : 1. The stress showed the highest frequency in premonitory cause at onset. 2. In comparing results on the Yangdorak general mean, they were not statistically significant between two group(p<0.05). 3. In comparing results on the Stomach(ST)-meridian Yangdorak mean, Idiopathic facial nerve paralysis group is stastically significant in comparison with non-facial paralysis group(p<0.05). 4. In comparing results on the Small Intestine(SI)-meridian Yangdorak mean, Idiopathic facial nerve paralysis group is not stastically significant in comparison with non-facial paralysis group(p<0.05). Conclusion : Yangdorak may be used for a method to objective clinical examination. But further studies are required for a use of practical indicator.
This study evaluated the community-based rehabilitation services provided by the Wonju Public Health Center from Jan. 2000 to Dec. 2002. Ninety-four persons with disabilities dwelling in the community participated and the surveys were completed in an interview during home visits. The respondents' demographic, socio-economic, and medical characteristics, rehabilitation service received, willingness to receive home-visit rehabilitation services, and satisfaction with the rehabilitation services were analyzed by frequency and percentage. A Likert scoring system consisting of five agreement-disagreement categories was applied to each item, consisting of Very Satisfied, Satisfied, So-So, Poorly Satisfied, and Very Poorly Satisfied. The major findings were as follows: 1) The rehabilitation services used included medical rehabilitation (26.9%), followed by social assistance (23.5%), diagnosis by a physician at home (17.3%), medical examination (12.3%), housekeeping services (6.2%), and vocational and educational rehabilitation (3.5%). 2) Of the medical services, the respondents desired physical therapy at home and free rental of rehabilitation equipment, such as wheelchairs, canes, walkers, the most, followed by home visit occupational therapy, nursing services, and oriental medicine service in descending order. 3) Some of the respondents expressed so-so satisfaction (50.0%) or dissatisfaction (16.9%) with the rehabilitation services provided by the Wonju Public Health Center. These findings should prove useful when planning or extending community-based rehabilitation programs for the homebound disabled in the community.
Nowadays, many people are deeply interested in health and well-being. Ministry of Health and Welfare showed the results of evaluation of medical service of seventy eight general hospitals in 2005. The number of its medical service variables was eighteen and the evaluation was carried out in eight regions on a national scale. Our study used the result data of the evaluation and presented the descriptive and inferential research findings. Thus, relations between the eight regions in Korea and 18 variables were studied, using ANOVA, etc., the significant results were found, and through regression analysis we estimated slope parameters of significant variables and could let the persons concerned know which variables were more important or less important and suggested which variables should specially be strengthened for higher ranking of the overall evaluation and for acquisition of the excellent grade, A.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate recognition, attitudes, knowledge, education experience, and education demand regarding physical restraint among laypersons. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 105 randomly recruited laypersons in D city. Excluding 2 incomplete answers, 103 data were analyzed by frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and chi-square test using SPSS 23.0. Results: Laypersons' recognition of physical restraints was rated at 3.37 out of 5 points, and showed a positive perspective. Knowledge on physical restraints was rated at 13.68 out of 18 points and was affected by age and education level (F = 2.845, p = .028)(F = 3.126, p = .029) A majority of the participants had no education on physical restraints. Nevertheless, participants showed intention to receive education in physical restraint to reach further understanding. Conclusion: Education on physical restraints is necessary for lay persons. However, there were education limits for people living in modern times. As an intervention addressing this problem, observing videos on the internet is recommended. Moreover, for advertising/educational purposes, accessing the internet and using smart-phone applications are suggested.

The aim of this study was to know the current management status in Korean medical clinics (KMC) and the awareness of Korean medicine doctor. The simple random extraction method from the membership list of 'The Association of Korean Medicine' in 2010 was used for survey. The questionnaire which had used in 2008 was revised, and those were sent to each KMC by mail. A total of 107 data were acquired and frequency analysis was conducted. The result showed that the annual average employees working in each KMC was 2.9 persons and the number of daily outpatient was 33.8 person in 2010. The proportion of sales covered by medical insurance at KMC has been increasing annually as 42.9%, 43.5%, and 44.8% of total sales, whereas the uninsured sales was 57.1%, 56.5%, and 55.2% of total sales in 2008, 2009, and 2010 respectively. All of the responders recognized that the current situation of Korean medical service market was not good and the reason was mainly resulted from undeveloped medical technique, popularized use of functional foods for health and alternative medical care by Western medicine. To expand Korean medical service, the expansion of sales covered by public health medical insurance, government support and advertizement for public relation were needed.
The objective of this study is to examine the difference about manner of utilization and satisfaction on western and oriental medical care. The data came from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2001 and 2005. The Andersen model of health behavior was employed to make this analysis. The major statistical methods used in this analysis are chi-square test and logistic regression. The major findings are as follows; Medical care is totally increased in 2005 in comparison with 2001, but medical care in the oriental side is decreased. There is no significant variables in predisposing factors such as sex, age, education level and spouse. Of health behavior factors, the average persons in health state are more favorable in oriental care rather than western care. Oriental care is favorably taken in health insurance subscribers and residents in a large city of enabling factors. The patients with musculoskeletal disease are more dependent in oriental care than western medical care. In conclusion, the findings show that it is largely related to patients' health state, medical insurance, living area and disease types to take oriental medical care. These characteristics should be considered in establishing policies of the oriental medical care in the future.
