The Impact of the Media Law Reform on the Media/Contents Firms' Market Value: Event Study Analysis (미디어법 개정이 미디어/콘텐츠기업가치에 미치는 영향분석: 사건연구의 활용)

  • The Media Law including Newspaper Law, Broadcasting Law and Internet Multimedia Law has been reformed in 2009. The main purpose of the reform was to allow media firms to gain a global competitive edge by opening doors to more investments that were nonexistent due to regulatory barriers. Also it aimed to contribute to an increase of employment in the media industry. This paper analyzes the impact that the Media Law reform of 2009 had on many media/contents company's future value by tracking abnormal returns gained during the period of the reform. The analysis with the capital market data of fifteen firms over a one-year period provided evidence that the new law has had an effect on the related firms' future value; however, the impact was shown to not be as significant in the long-term. This study has the significance in that it showed that the impact of the reform was not overall to the industry but given to the limited number of media company and confirmed the relatively strong effect of the unexpected events.

A Study on Effective Competitive Intelligence of Korean Firms (국내기업의 효과적 경쟁정보활동에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of elements related to the competitive intelligence(CI) process, methods, and infrastructure in accordance with the degree of CI effectiveness of domestic firms and to propose a guideline for designing and operating an effective CI program in Korean films. The results of this study reveal that, for the elevation of CI effectiveness of Korean firms, it is important to actively utilize the overall CI process, including undisclosed information through human networks, public information through various media, and quantitative and qualitative analyses, an independent CI unit, various CI support systems, such as information and reward systems, and organizational culture of CI openness within an organization. However, CI outsourcing, CI primary objectives, and CI scale do not seem to have a significant influence on CI effectiveness of Korean firms. Based on these results, this research presents some important implications for effective competitive intelligence for Korean firms.

  • The mobile internet service market is growing very rapidly in Korea. This study outlines the current state of mobile internet services and analyzes the mobile contents types of media companies, especially newspapers, broadcasters and internet portal firms. As a result of this study, media companies provide generally different types of news and information for free and they are eager to develop the new mobile business models to maintain their power in new media. But mobile content distribution is still in the early stages due to the lack of clear business models. To satisfy the consumer's needs and to maintain the competitive advantages, the media companies should develop new business models and cooperate with other market participants to reduce the barriers in the mobile internet service market.

Customer Identification Service Platform for Interaction between Business Firms and Customers using Beacon (비콘을 이용한 사업장과 고객간 상호작용을 위한 고객식별 서비스 플랫폼)

  • In recent days, all the business firms use IT-based services in a variety of ways to facilitate their consumer activities. A typical example is location-based services that send advertisements or discount coupons when a customer approaches near the business place. This is not the direct interaction between the business firms and the customer, and it is one of the way of sending the business related contents to the customer's smart-phone regardless of the customer's intention. The Business firms does not know in real time which customers sent promotional contents. Recently most of the business services are in this way. Therefore, a new type of location-based customer service is required for interaction between the business firm and the customer. This is a system that automatically identifies which customer visit a business place when the customer visits the business place delivers them to the computer of the business place in real time, and provides business customized services using the information. In this paper, we have developed a service based platform to identify the customer as well as interact with the customer based on the location based service using Beacon. This system will also provide an open platform environment that can be easily accessible to the various business firms, rather than limited to a specific business firms.

Comparison Analysis on Operation Characteristics of Design Consultancies between Korea and America (한국과 미국의 디자인컨설팅기업의 운영현황 비교 분석)

  • This study aims to consider the action plans to make the industry of Korean design consultancies accomplish qualitative growth by comparing the operation characteristics of design consulting firms between Korean design firms and American ones. For this, questionnaire survey and comparison analysis was performed for the operation characteristics of 109 Korean design firms and 97 American ones. The analysis results shows that operation characteristics of Korean design firms comparing to those of American ones keep low in all 7 areas of building long-term partnership relationship, building multi- disciplinary organization, utilizing result-based compensation system, developing design at the strategic business level of clients, executing active design business, making convergent networking with other industry and performing specialized design services. In order to accomplish stable industry infrastructure of design consulting industry with qualitative growth, it requires continuous effort to execute 7 operation characteristics of Korean design firms.

  • This study provides a new perspective on the effect of social media marketing activities (SMMA) on purchase intention in Korean cosmetic firms. The increasing use of social media has changed how firms engage their brand with consumers. This phenomenon triggered a need for this research to examine further the influence of SMMA on social brand engagement (SBE), brand equity (BE), and purchase intention (PI). The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of SMMA on purchase intention in Korean cosmetic firms with brand equity and social brand engagement. The factors of SMMA were identified based on previous literature reviews that have an impact on social media marketing activity. To empirically test the effects of SMMA, this study conducted a questionnaire survey on 219 social media users for data analysis out of the initial 332 survey data. The results reveal that all five SMMA elements are positively related to BE, SBE, and PI. The study enables cosmetic brands to forecast the future purchasing behavior of their customers more accurately and brings clarity to manage their assets and marketing activities as well.

A SNS-based New Products Promotion Case Study (SNS 기반 신제품 프로모션 사례 연구)

  • SNS users have increased at rapid rate. Many firms are expected to use SNS, especially in marketing area. This study describes a SNS-based new products promotion case study. We aim to identify how differently SNS users respond to different types of SNS media or SNS contents. In this analysis marketing effects are measured in a number of website hits. The study result shows how the number of user's hits differs upon a combination of SNS media and SNS contents.

A Study on Factors of Electronic Authorizing System Affecting Productivity Increase (전자 결재 시스템의 생산성 향상에 미치는 요인에 대한 연구)

  • Recently groupware has been popularly adopted by corperations to gain competitive position. In Korea, one of major function of those systems is the Electronic Authorizing System because korean firms have authorizing system but western firms do not. Thus researches on EAS has never been produced before. The purpose of this research is to build the research framework for productivity measurement of EAS. The research model of EAS has investigated three dimensions including Business process, ease of system use and media richness to meet this end. Based on this model, author conducted case study with mailing questionaires. The result of research shows that the factors of the business process and ease of system use raise the productivity but the factor of electronic media a little decreases it. Also author finds business process affects the productivity in three ways such as changing layout of papers for authorizing, changing business process and removing waiting time for authorization. Finally, based on the result of research, this paper adds some recommendations for EAS builder.

Effects of Marketing Communication Capabilities on the link between Corporate Social Responsibility on Firm Value: Observations from the Service Industry

  • An increasing number of studies have examined the effects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities on corporate financial performance (CFP) in the service industry. However, the extant literature does not provide comprehensive insights into the conditions on which the CSR-CFP link relies. In this study, firms' marketing communication capability (MCC) is introduced as an important contingency variable, which determines the effects of CSR on the corporate financial performance, in the context of restaurant businesses. Multiple year data on the spending of public restaurant chains on different media are collected, and MCC is subsequently measured using the data envelope analysis. Then, a test is conducted to prove whether MCC moderates the relationship between CSR and firm financial performance. The empirical results support the hypothesis that MCC strengthens the effect of CSR on CFP. Through the findings, this research provides several interesting and important implications to the literature and managers of service firms.

A Study of Social Media User Response about Firms' Crisis Response Strategies (기업의 위기대응전략에 대한 소셜 미디어 이용자의 반응 연구)

  • The importance of online communication is getting increased by the rapid growth of smartphone supply and Social Network Service (SNS) use. Catching up with the trend, firms are actively use SNS to improve brand image, promote products, and communicate with customer. On the one hand, SNS is the channel for firms' marketing activities, but on the other, it is also the channel where the events related to the firms propagate in real time. Firms are led to unexpected state of crisis, when events are quickly spread out on SNS. Then firms are assessed their image by the way they deal with the state of crisis. This paper proposes to figure out user response on SNS according to each crisis response strategies by analyzing event-related twitter data when crisis situations of firms arise. We classify crisis response strategies into response attitude, defensive and accommodative response, and response speed, fast and slow response. This paper suggests optimal crisis response strategy to firms regarding state of crisis propagated on SNS.
