  • Situation awareness means recognizing everything necessary to understand progress in a flight or aircraft maintenance work. Situation awareness is based on more than simply recognizing important about the environment, and it is important to provide the meaning of information in an integrated form. The KHP provides the pilot with integrated situation display for an integrated form of situation awareness and warning that synchronizes the priority based audible signal with the visual signal. Provide integrated display and warning to reduce operator error and enable operators to focus on mission critical tasks and events. This paper introduces the integrated situation display and warning design implemented in the KHP.

  • Statistical literacy is a key ability expected of citizens in information-laden societies, and is often revealed as an expected outcome of schooling and as a necessary component of adults' numeracy and literacy. Knowing how important statistical literacy is, the purpose of this research was to measure statistical literacy of adults and secondary mathematics teachers. This study explored the statistical literacy based on the level of understanding in poll results and analyzed the data obtained through semi-structured interviews with 20 secondary mathematics teachers and 20 adults. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained: First, few secondary mathematics teachers and adults correctly recognized the meaning of statistical terms and expressions included in the poll results. Second, 70% of research participants did not reach levels 3 or 4 of statistical literacy levels. Third, the statistical literacy level of secondary mathematical teachers was higher than that of adults.

  • Automatic word spacing is a process of deciding correct boundaries between words in a sentence including spacing errors. It is very important to increase the readability and to communicate the accurate meaning of text to the reader. The previous statistical approaches for automatic word spacing do not consider the previous spacing state, and thus can not help estimating inaccurate probabilities. In this paper, we propose two statistical word spacing models which can solve the problem of the previous statistical approaches. The proposed models are based on the observation that the automatic word spacing is regarded as a classification problem such as the POS tagging. The models can consider broader context and estimate more accurate probabilities by generalizing hidden Markov models. We have experimented the proposed models under a wide range of experimental conditions in order to compare them with the current state of the art, and also provided detailed error analysis of our models. The experimental results show that the proposed models have a syllable-unit accuracy of 98.33% and Eojeol-unit precision of 93.06% by the evaluation method considering compound nouns.

  • With more and more people paying attention to substantial democracy, participatory democracy is presented as a practical strategy and an index of Korean democracy. In this social and political atmosphere, participation in environmental planning and design is essential. Nonetheless, the true meaning of “participation” is not used properly because many people do not understand it correctly, The concept of social and political participation is “the action or attempt of ordinary members of society for affecting on the result of decision making.” Based on this concept, participation is accomplished through conventional means and as a form of mobilization in environmental planning and desist Most of the theories on public participation in landscape architecture are technical theories. Therefore, this paper proposes that planning and design of landscape architecture be understood as a communicative action that aims to enable stakeholders to reach a consensus through communication. This study offers the framework of theory to understand and practice planning and design of landscape architecture as a communicative action, after reviewing communicative action theory and communicative planning theory. Results suggest that communicative action theory should be accepted in landscape architecture to overcome the shortcomings of instrumental rationality -- the same way planning theory accepted this theory --and to join the culture of experts focusing on the artistic truth and the culture of life of the world. In addition, accepting communicative action theory enables the acquisition of the instrumental effect and social learning effect and the making of social capital. This study also suggested prerequisite for using the method. There should be change in the social institution and in individual action. In addition the method is composed of three steps: creating the atmosphere for communication; communicating, and; reaching a consensus among stakeholders. Finally, raising the possibility of applying the theory presented in this study requires the accumulation of know-how through trial and error.

  • Asia has shown a tendency that a certain country's culture leads the fashion in turn every 10 years. The trend of Hong Kong movies in 1980's was called 'Hong Kong Wave', the trend of Japanese animation and games in 1990's was called 'Japanese Wave', and then the 'Korean Wave' began in the late 1990's. This term '~Wave(流)' is a Japanese-style term meaning '~way', '~style', '~group', and so on. In the same manner, recent popularity of Taiwanese TV dramas and a particular star that is in fashion in Japan are called 'Taiwanese Wave', and Chinese movies, broadcast, tourism, and etc. are called 'Chinese Wave'. Thus, the term 'Korean Wave' is a part of expression '~wave' used in Japan and it started to be used in the mean time, and was officially used in <韓流-Song from Korea>, a promotion record of Korean pop music, produced by Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Korea. In this paper I propose to correct the error of the term 'Korean Wave', and furthermore, to define a term expressing Korean culture and study for its usage.

  • Background Microsurgical techniques are considered standard procedures in reconstructive surgery. Although microsurgery by itself is defined as surgery aided by optical magnification, there are no guidelines for determining in which clinical situations a microscope or loupe should be used. Therefore, we conducted standardized experiments to objectively assess the impact of optical magnification in microsurgery. Methods Sixteen participants of microsurgical training courses had to complete 2 sets of experiments. Each set had to be performed with an unaided eye, surgical loupes, and a regular operating microscope. The first set of experiments included coaptation of a chicken femoral nerve, and the second set consisted of anastomosing porcine coronary arteries. Evaluation of the sutured nerves and vessels were performed by 2 experienced microsurgeons using an operating microscope. Results The 16 participants of the study completed all of the experiments. The nerve coaptation and vascular anastomoses exercises showed a direct relationship of error frequency and lower optical magnification, meaning that the highest number of microsurgical errors occurred with the unaided eye. For nerve coaptation, there was a strong relationship (P<0.05) between the number of mistakes and magnification, and this relationship was very strong (P<0.01) for vascular anastomoses. Conclusions We were able to prove that microsurgical success is directly related to optical magnification. The human eye's ability to discriminate potentially important anatomical structures is limited, which might be detrimental for clinical results. Although not legally mandatory, surgeries such as reparative surgery after hand trauma should be conducted with magnifying devices for achieving optimal patient outcomes.

  • In order to overcome the limitation of deterministic forecast, an ensemble forecasting system for regional ocean wave is developed. This system predicts ocean wind waves based on the meteorological forcing from the Ensemble Prediction System for Global of the Korea Meteorological Administration, which is consisted of 24 ensemble members. The ensemble wave forecasting system is evaluated by using the moored buoy data around Korea. The root mean squared error (RMSE) of ensemble mean showed the better performance than the deterministic forecast system after 2 days, especially RMSE of ensemble mean is improved by 15% compared with the deterministic forecast for 3-day lead time. It means that the ensemble method could reduce the uncertainty of the deterministic prediction system. The Relative Operating Characteristic as an evaluation scheme of probability prediction was bigger than 0.9 showing high predictability, meaning that the ensemble wave forecast could be usefully applied.

  • In this article, we introduce an example about 'computers and mathematics education' and discuss its educational meaning. First, we survey two microworlds of Logo and DGS, which are two different representation systems for geometric phenomena. And we propose needs of connecting two microworlds with common perspective. And we suggest a mediation model that connects two representations in a microworld. Using this mediation model(Circle model), we construct a circle, a ellipse, and a cardioid with two different representations. It is important that the mediation model makes it possible that we translate descriptions from one representation into the other, and guess perimeters of planar curves. We also discuss roles and mathematical implications of this mediation model by error case in calculating perimeters of ellipses.

  • Introduction of logarithm in mathematics textbook in the 7th national curriculum of mathematics is the inverse of exponent. This introduction is happened that students don't know the necessity for learning logarithm and the meaning of logarithm. Students also have solved many problems of logarithm by rote. Therefore, we try to present teaching unit for the logarithm according to the historico-genetic principle. We developed the learning-teaching module of unit for the logarithm according to historico-genetic principle, especially reinvention for real contexts based RME. Loaming-teaching module is carried out as the performance assessment. As a results, We find out that this module helps students understand concepts of logarithm meaningfully Also, mathematical errors of logarithm is revised after the application of learning-teaching module.
