This paper applies Bayesian Markov inferred localization techniques for determining ZigBee mobile device's position. To evaluate its accuracy, we compare it with conventional technique, map-based localization. While the map-based localization technique referring to database of predefined locations and their RSSI data, the Bayesian Markov inferred localization is influenced by changes of time, direction and distance. All determinations are drawn from the estimation of Received Signal Strength (RSS) using ZigBee modules. Our results show the relationship between RSSI and distance in indoor ZigBee environment and higher localization accuracy of Bayesian Markov localization technique. We conclude that map-based localization is not suitable for flexible changes in indoors because of its predefined condition setup and lower accuracy comparing to distance-based Markov Chain inference localization system.

SALM(Simultaneous localization and mapping) and AI(Artificial intelligence) have been active research areas in robotics for two decades. In particular, localization is one of the most important tasks in mobile robot research. Until now expensive sensors such as a laser sensor have been used for mobile robot localization. Currently, the proliferation of RFID technology is advancing rapidly, while RFID reader devices, antennas and tags are becoming increasingly smaller and cheaper. So, in this paper, the smart floor using passive RFID tags is proposed and, passive RFID tags are mainly used for identifying location of the mobile robot in the smart floor. We discuss a number of challenges related to this approach, such as tag distribution (density and structure), typing and clustering. In the smart floor using RFID tags, the localization error results from the sensing area of the RFID reader, because the reader just knows whether the tag is in the sensing range of the sensor and, until now, there is no study to estimate the heading of mobile robot using RFID tags. So, in this paper, two algorithms are suggested to. The Markov localization method is used to reduce the location(X,Y) error and the Kalman Filter method is used to estimate the heading($\theta$) of mobile robot. The algorithms which are based on Markov localization require high computing power, so we suggest fast Markov localization algorithm. Finally we applied these algorithms our personal robot CMR-P3. And we show the possibility of our probability approach using the cheap sensors such as odometers and RFID tags for mobile robot localization in the smart floor
Localization is one of the key problems in the navigation of autonomous mobile robots. The probabilistic Markov localization approaches offer a good mathematical framework to deal with the uncertainty of environment and sensor readings but their use for realtime applications is limited by their computational complexity. This paper aims to reduce the high computational cost associated with the probabilistic Markov localization algorithm. We propose a hybrid landmark-based localization method combining triangulation and probabilistic approaches, which can efficiently update position probability grid, while the probabilistic framework allows to make use of any available sensor data to refine robot´s belief about its current location. The simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of the method.

We consider discrete-time factorial Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) in multiple decision-makers environment for infinite horizon average reward criterion with a general joint reward structure but a factorial joint state transition structure. We introduce the "localization" concept that a global MDP is localized for each agent such that each agent needs to consider a local MDP defined only with its own state and action spaces. Based on that, we present a gradient-ascent like iterative distributed algorithm that converges to a local optimal solution of the global MDP. The solution is an autonomous joint policy in that each agent's decision is based on only its local state.cal state.

The problem of outdoor localization can be practically solved by GPS. However, GPS is not perfect and some areas of outdoor navigation should consider other solutions. This research deals with outdoor localization using an elevation map without GPS. This paper proposes a novel feature, elevation moment of inertia (EMOI), which represents the distribution of elevation as a function of distance from a robot in the elevation map. Each cell of an elevation map has its own EMOI, and outdoor localization can be performed by matching EMOIs obtained from the robot and the pre-given elevation map. The experiments and simulations show that the proposed EMOI can be usefully exploited for outdoor localization with an elevation map and this feature can be easily applied to other probabilistic approaches such as Markov localization method.

Mobile robot localization is the task of estimating the robot pose in a given environment. This research deals with outdoor localization based on an elevation map. Since outdoor environments are large and contain many complex objects, it is difficult to robustly estimate the robot pose. This paper proposes a Hausdorff distance-based map matching method. The Hausdorff distance is exploited to measure the similarity between extracted features obtained from the robot and elevation map. The experiments and simulations show that the proposed Hausdorff distance-based map matching is useful for robust outdoor localization using an elevation map. Also, it can be easily applied to other probabilistic approaches such as a Markov localization method.

This paper is on a system design of recognizing sound sources and tracing locations from detecting a section of sound sources which is strong in surrounding environmental sounds about sound sources occurring in an abnormal situation by using signals within the section. In detection of the section with strong sound sources, weighted average delta energy of a short section is calculated from audio signals received. After inputting it into a low-pass filter, through comparison of values of the output result, a section strong in background sound is defined. In recognition of sound sources, from data of the detected section, using an HMM(: Hidden Markov Model) as a traditional recognition method, learning and recognition are realized from creating information to recognize sound sources. About signals of sound sources that surrounding background sounds are included, by using energy of existing signals, after detecting the section, compared with the recognition through the HMM, a recognition rate of 3.94% increase is shown. Also, based on the recognition result, location grasping by using TDOA(: Time Delay of Arrival) between signals in the section accords with 97.44% of angles of a real occurrence location.

The range-free localization using connectivity information has problems of mobile tracking. This paper proposes two Bayesian filter-based mobile tracking algorithms considering a propagation scenario. Kalman and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) particle filters are applied according to linearity of two measurement models. Measurement models of the Kalman and MCMC particle filter-based algorithms respectively are defined as connectivity between mobiles, information fusion of connectivity information and received signal strength (RSS) from neighbors within one-hop. To perform the accurate simulation, we consider a real indoor map of shopping mall and degree of radio irregularity (DOI) model. According to obstacles between mobiles, we assume two types of DOIs. We show the superiority of the proposed algorithm over existing range-free algorithms through MATLAB simulations.

A general solution in global self-position location of robot is to generate multiple hypothesis in self-position of robot, which is to look for the most positive self-position by evaluating each hypothesis based on features of observed landmark. Markov Localization(ML) or Monte Carlo Localization(MCL) to be the existing typical method is to evaluate all pairs of landmark features and generated hypotheses, it can be said to be an optimal method in sufficiently calculating resources. But calculating quantities was proportional to the number of pairs to evaluate in general, so calculating quantities was piled up in wide environments in the presence of multiple pairs if using these methods. First of all, the positive and promising pairs is located and evaluated to solve this problem in this paper, and the newly locating method to make effective use of calculating time is proposed. As the basic method, it is used both RANSAC(RANdom SAmple Consensus) algorithm and preemption scheme to be efficiency method of RANSAC algorithm. The calculating quantity on each observation of robot can be suppressed below a certain values in the proposed method, and the high location performance can be determined by an experimental on verification.
