  • Duck feet gelatin (DFG) gel was added as a fat replacer to low-fat frankfurters and the effect of DFG on physicochemical, textural, and sensory characteristics of low-fat frankfurters was evaluated. DFG gel was prepared with a 20% duck feet gelatin concentration (w/w). Adding DFG decreased lightness and increased yellowness of the low-fat frankfurters (p<0.05). However, DFG did not affect redness of low-fat frankfurters (p>0.05). The statistical results indicated that adding DFG improved cooking yield of low-fat frankfurters (p<0.05). In addition, replacing pork back fat with DFG resulted in increased moisture content, protein content, and ash content of low-fat frankfurters, and the low-fat frankfurter formulated with 5% pork back fat and 15% DFG gel had the highest moisture content and lowest fat content (p<0.05). Adding of DFG increased all textural parameters including hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, chewiness, and gumminess of low-fat frankfurters (p<0.05). In terms of sensory properties, the low-fat frankfurter formulated with 5% pork back fat and 15% DFG gel showed similar satisfaction scores for the flavor, tenderness, juiciness, and overall acceptance when compared to the regular frankfurters (20% back fat). Therefore, our results suggest that DFG could be an effective novel source, as a fat replacer, for manufacturing of low-fat frankfurters.

  • Objectives: Safety is a primary health promotion issue in worksite because injury induces multi-fold loss of the human and economic resources to profit organization. The purposes of this study were to describe worksite health and safety education and management status in Korean manufacturing companies. Methods: The original population size of Korean manufacturing industry in 2004 was 74,398 and 2,960 factories were selected by the multiple stratified sampling method for this study. The health and safety manager or representatives of the selected 2,960 companies successfully finished in the face-to-face interview survey about company's general characteristics, health and safety management style, health and safety education hours conducted by the Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency. Results: The manufacturing companies in Seoul and Kyunggi areas, small size, and clothes and press industries were related to low health and safety management and education status. The companies which assigned at least one safety manager were 70.5% and which had a health and safety room within the company were only 9.3%. The companies which took the health and safety education for their regular blue-collar employees more than the legal education hours were under 56.1% and the percentage of the companies which took their health and safety education for newcomers less than the legal limits was lower than any other types of health and safety education in workplace. The significant strong workplace health and safety management variables in predicting employee health and safety education were psycho-social variables such as the company own health and safety regulation and the workplace health and safety management committee organization. rather than physical variables such as health manager employment, safety manager employment. Conclusions: Systematic and legal approaches are effective to encourage workplace health and safety education, specifically, through sustaining health and safety managers and building the company-wide health and safety management system. Furthermore, theses approaches should primarily focus on the small companies of which sizes were under 50.

  • Our plywood manufacturing industries which entertained prosperous stage in late 1970's have come to be in face of the problems of conceedingly obtaining good quality logs and yield up-grading, which is considered by future-replaceable forest resources. In view of this point, manufacturing characteristic on softwood plywood using Japanese larch, pitch pine as domestic plantation species, and western hemlock as foreign species was studied. In this study, veneer- and plywood manufacturing yields were discussed in relation to log properties and veneer defects (knots). The summarized conclusions were as follows: 1. The majority of sample logs belonged to second grade on the standard. And, eccentricity of larch was the highest 11%, about 2 times those of pitch pine, hemlock. 2. Knot frequency of occurrence of larch reached 19% within log height 8m, and pitch pine 13% within 4m. Correspondingly, the log height of larch available for plywood manufacture was higher by about 2 times that of pitch pine. 3. In the knot types, most of knots of larch appeared dead, whereas those of pitch pine and hemlock appeared live. In size of knots, larch and hemlock showed relatively small 1-2cm dia. by 70% or more and pitch pine did the larger 24cm by 65%. Generally the more knot emerged in the inner side of veneer than the outer. 4. Plywood manufacturing yields by peeling with spindle revolution lathe were 37% in larch > 32% in hemlock> 26% in pitch pine. S. Jointed core veneer yields by peeling with outer perimeter back-up lathe were 55% in hemlock> 53% in larch> and 48% in pitch pine.

  • This paper proposes an antenna performance prediction model in the autonomous driving radar manufacturing process. Our research work is based upon a challenge dataset, Driving Radar Manufacturing Process Dataset, and a typical AutoML machine learning workflow engine, Pycaret open-source Python library. Note that the dataset contains the total 70 data-items, out of which 54 used as input features and 16 used as output features, and the dataset is properly built into resolving the multi-output regression problem. During the data regression analysis and preprocessing phase, we identified several input features having similar correlations and so detached some of those input features, which may become a serious cause of the multicollinearity problem that affect the overall model performance. In the training phase, we train each of output-feature regression models by using the AutoML approach. Next, we selected the top 5 models showing the higher performances in the AutoML result reports and applied the ensemble method so as for the selected models' performances to be improved. In performing the experimental performance evaluation of the regression prediction model, we particularly used two metrics, MAE and RMSE, and the results of which were 0.6928 and 1.2065, respectively. Additionally, we carried out a series of experiments to verify the proposed model's performance by comparing with other existing models' performances. In conclusion, we enhance accuracy for safer autonomous vehicles, reduces manufacturing costs through AutoML-Pycaret and machine learning ensembled model, and prevents the production of faulty radar systems, conserving resources. Ultimately, the proposed model holds significant promise not only for antenna performance but also for improving manufacturing quality and advancing radar systems in autonomous vehicles.

  • Korea has been one of the top ranked countries in the per capita and total consumption of Cu, Zn, Pb, and Ni since economic development based on manufacturing industries. The current instability of mineral demand and supply in Korea is likely to continue or exacerbate in accordance with economic growth in developing countries such as BRICs. Korea needs to increase the self-development portion of strategic mineral resources including Cu, Zn, Pb, and Ni. Our analysis of mineral demand and supply data predicts a long-run instability of supply and demand for main minerals used in the Korean manufacturing industries, and suggests a long range government policy for stable supply of core mineral resources.

  • In a fiercely competitive environment, quality is a key factor that enables dashboard camera makers to maintain their competitive advantage. Quality affects consumer satisfaction, brand loyalty, and firm performance. Therefore, to remain competitive, it is important that manufacturers maintain product quality that meets consumer expectations. To this end, it is necessary to investigate customer preferences and product performance in terms of product quality and to properly allocate resources to improve the quality level such that the firm can maintain a competitive advantage. In this paper, we proposed the various ways in which manufacturing firms can determine which quality dimensions need improvement in order to secure competitiveness. To this end, we analyzed a case study of Urive to develop a quality improvement strategy through importance performance competitor analysis (IPCA). Urive's IPCA results showed that 14 quality dimensions, namely performance, size, price, ease of use, country of origin, manufacturer, brand, product certificate, warranty, distribution channel, market share, reliability, durability, and conformance, were not absolutely competitive compared with those of Mando, Inavi, and Finevu. In terms of color, Urive had an absolute competitive advantage over Mando, but not Inavi and Finevu. Urive's appearance was more competitive than Mando's, but not Inavi's and Finevu's. In terms of advertisement and serviceability, Urive was absolutely less competitive than Mando and Inavi, but had a competitive advantage over Finevu. Therefore, it is necessary to put resources and time as the first priority for performance, reliability, and durability, which have a large performance difference in common among the three brands. The quality dimensions in which resources and time need to be put in second place are price and ease of use, which have a large performance difference in common among the two brands.
