  • This study aims to examine the impact of accessing industrial factors in enhancing business performance with special reference to Muslim women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka. Industrial factors are industrial resources available to Muslim women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka and it was measured using the dimensions of resource accessibility and government and non-governmental support. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 260 women entrepreneurs from the Muslim community who are registered with the chamber of commerce in the three districts of the Eastern province of Sri Lanka, using a simple random sampling technique. Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS was used as the data analysis technique. The structural model showed that resource accessibility had a significant and positive relationship with business performance, whereas government and non-governmental support did not significantly influence business performance. Especially, Muslim women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka do not show interest in getting support such as finance, training, and other necessities from government and non-government organizations as well as business development support agencies. Trade chambers and decision-making authorities may use this finding to gain insights and develop strategies to enhance the business performance of women entrepreneurs.

  • We tried to look for parenting stress and social support of parents who look after children with mental retardation, intellectual disability, physical disability, and deafness. We also tried to know type and severity of parenting stress and inform a necessity of a resource and social support through the study. We subjected parents who have children with disability and visit 7 medical centers to treat in the 4 cities. The parents filled out the questionnaire. We analysed the scale of parenting stress and social support using Likert 5 point scale. As a result of parenting stress and social support according to general characteristics by type of disability, parenting stress was very high regardless of type of disability. However, the parents who have children with disability had lower social support. In detail, the parents who have children with mental retardation had the highest parenting stress, and the parents who have children with deafness had the lowest parenting stress. In the social support, the parents who have children with mental retardation received high social support, and the parents who have children with intellectual disability received low social support.

  • There hardly have been support policies for small wholesale vendors or any materials such as proper statistical standards and figures compared to diversity of support policies and size of budget for small and medium manufacturing business. The biggest concern coming from it is that there have never been any policies for small and medium wholesale vendors. This study proposes some ways to improve support policies through investigating the current status of those vendors as their true values haven't been properly recognized, while diverse support systems have been devised for manufacturing business thanks to the traditional industrial development process. According to the study on support policies for domestic and international small and medium wholesale vendors, I realized that those vendors need a policy to ensure them to be promptly adjusted to the rapidly changing distribution environment and to be competitive to access to the global distribution market to finally become hidden champions through systematical operations of small and medium wholesale vendors and implementing educational business through sales management. Therefore, I propose five ways to improve support policies for small and medium wholesale vendors by considering social and economic value, systematizing small wholesalers and scaling small and medium wholesale vendors, reinforcing support for wholesalers, support policies for new online market opening and offline market opening.

  • This study empirically investigated inter-relationships among the influence factors on the adoption of e-commerce, which are classified as cause factor (i.e., perceived environmental uncertainty and competition), facilitators (i.e., perceived economic benefits, inter-organizational trust, suppliers' pressure and capability and asset specificity) and support factor (i.e., top management's support and organizational resource capability). The results of regression analyses showed that competition, inter-organizational trust, suppliers' pressure and capability, top management's support, and organizational resource capability have a positive impact on the adoption of e-commerce. In the analyses of inter-relationships among the influence factors, it was found that perceived environmental uncertainty positively influences suppliers' pressure and capability and perceived economic benefits, and competition has a positive impact on asset specificity. It was also observed that perceived economic benefits, inter-organizational trust and suppliers' pressure and capability positively affect top management's support, and inter-organizational trust and suppliers' pressure and capability have a positive impact on organizational resource capability. With mediating regression analyses, it was found that competition has an indirect impact on the adoption of e-commerce through the effect on perceived economic benefits, suppliers' pressure and capability, organizational resource capability and top management's support. The results of mediating regression analyses also showed that suppliers' pressure and capability and perceived economic benefits have indirect effects on the adoption of e-commerce through the effects on top management's support and organizational resource capability. From these results, it is concluded that intense competition causes the activation of facilitators, and the facilitators contribute to both the enhancement of top management support and the creation of organizational resource capability, which are directly linked to the adoption of e-commerce.

  • Computer-based systems operating between two or more co-operating organizations as part of their business relationship are generally referred to as inter-organizational systems(IOS). IOS automates aspects of transactional work between organizations and coordinate other activities. These systems facilitate organizational interaction as well as flows of materials, services and information. This planning provides as business direction for IOS applications, coordinates the efforts of participants, and deals with technical and non-technical IOS issues. This paper seeks to research the effect of strategic determinants of IOS to the efficiency of IOS. The determinants that selected from prior researches are top management support, is support and vendor/consultant support. The results show that the effect of top management support to efficiency of IOS was significant and this effect mediates the effect of other factors.

  • Recently a multi-attribute structure analysis method is one of the evident areas of important points in the decision support system analysis. This research developed an internet/intranet-based solution builder for a three-step decision support system using fuzzy-AHP in the view of 1) brainstorming far the idea generation, 2) fuzzy-AHP (fuzzy analytic hierarchy process) as a multi-attribute structured analysis method and 3) aggregation logic model to integrate the results of individual analysis. We applied this decision support system to the make-or-buy decision problem for school foodservice system considering the multi-attributes in the decision making. A computer program is developed and demonstrated it internet/intranet-based decision problem. It was known that this solution builder provides decision makers a good tool for mate-of-buy group decision making.

  • Semi-supervised learning incorporates unlabeled examples, whose labels are unknown, as well as labeled examples into learning process. Although transductive support vector machine (TSVM), one of semi-supervised learning models, was proposed about a decade ago, its application to large-scaled data has still been limited due to its high computational complexity. Our previous research addressed this limitation by introducing a branch-and-bound algorithm for finding an optimal solution to TSVM. In this paper, we propose three new techniques to enhance the performance of the branch-and-bound algorithm. The first one tightens min-cut bound, one of two bounding strategies. Another technique exploits a graph-based approximation to a support vector machine problem to avoid the most time-consuming step. The last one tries to fix the labels of unlabeled examples whose labels can be obviously predicted based on labeled examples. Experimental results are presented which demonstrate that the proposed techniques can reduce drastically the number of subproblems and eventually computational time.
