  • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics and conscious behavior of 287 workers. The results of the study are as follows: The participants of the study were composed of 139 males $(48.4\%)$ and 148 females $(51.6\%)$. 75 workers are 25 years old or younger $(26.1\%)$. Regarding the frequency of eating out, 211 workers $(73.6\%)$ answered that they had eating out ever once a week. Males ate out more frequently than females (p<0.001). The motives for eating out was mostly for meals. This response was more frequent for female than male. To the contrary, more males answered that they ate out for the purpose of social intercourse. As the level of average monthly income increases, the purpose of eating out changed from the purpose of meals to the purpose of social intercourse (p<0.001). For cost of eating out, the older workers and those who had higher monthly income spent significantly more expenditure. However gender difference didn't make any significant difference in the eating out expenses per person. The average monthly eating out expenses were significantly higher for female than male, for the order workers than the younger, for the married than the single, and for those who have higher monthly income than lower. However, the expenses were not significantly different in occupation. Regarding the types of restaurants that the workers preferred for eating out, the most workers preferred Korean restaurant. The types of restaurants that workers preferred significantly related to all the demographic characteristics (p<0.01). In general, participants had eating out with their family. However, younger, single, and low income workers seemed to more eat out with their friends. The most preferred menu was pork dishes. Male rather than female, the married rather than the single, and those who have a professional occupation appeared to like it more. It is necessary to research the major customers' demographic characteristics and their preferences, and then to develop new goods which fit to the customers before entering the restaurant business. It may be concluded that it should be important to develop nutritious, safe, and delicious foods.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the need for nutritional education in male workers living in Busan, Korea. This study surveyed 310 industrial workers at five companies in Busan using a questionnaire. According to the results, need for nutritional education scored 3.60/5.00 points. The usage rate of mass media as a means of acquiring nutritional information was significantly higher (P<0.001) in subjects in their 50s compared to other age groups. Regarding scores on need for nutritional education according to theme, 'balanced eating habits' showed the highest score, followed by 'food safety', 'diet therapy related to a disease', and 'food hygiene and food poisoning prevention'. In terms of frequency of nutritional education, 29.0% of subjects considered 'biannually' to be desirable, whereas 25.8% and 21.0% considered 'annually' and 'quarterly' to be desirable, respectively. The results of this study suggest that nutritional education for industrial workers should be implemented in various ways in accordance with their characteristics. Furthermore, considering workers' low awareness levels of the need for nutritional education, employees are required to take the education in order to encouraged to improve their nutritional status and commit to a desirable diet.

  • This study aims to find out the determinants of male police officers' investigative behavior(active investigation vs. secondary victimization) of sexual violence. For this purpose, a hypothetical model which explains the relationships among the 5 variables (knowledge of law about the investigative role, perception of the protective & connective role, prejudice against the sexual violence, active investigation, and secondary victimization) was developed. Using the data collected from 354 male police officers of 3 cities in Gyeongnam area, the hypothetical model was tested. For data analysis, a structural equation modeling was used, and the final model was found(CFI=0.947, IFI=0.948, RMSEA=0.048). As a result of analyzing the model, the followings were found: (1) Active investigation was increased by knowledge of law about the investigative role, and perception of the protective & connective role, while decreased by prejudice against the sexual violence. (2) Secondary vicimization was decreased by knowledge of law about the investigative role. (3) Prejudice against the sexual violence mediate the effects of knowledge of law about the investigative role, and perception of the protective & connective role on active investigation. (4) Prejudice against the sexual violence was found to have no significant effect on secondary victimization. Based on the findings, multi-educational programs, protocols on investigation of sexual violence, professionalization of the police, and changes in investigation environment as well as a system of collaboration and cooperation between police officer and social worker were suggested as a way to increase active investigation and to decrease secondary victimization.

  • This report addresses the question whether resilience affects attitudes of middle-aged employees toward retirement. Are resilient employees more prepared and/or ready for retirement? To address this question, a survey of over 214 employees aged 50 or more was taken. Participants worked in the Seoul metropolitan area. This study utilized the SPSS 19.0 program. A sophisticated regression analysis software system was conducted to measure and identify relationships and correlations among groups of participants. Our findings included four points. First, male employees were better prepared for retirement than women. Second, the more educated (or the higher the household income), the better prepared was the participant for retirement. Third, the more resilient a worker was, the less was the resistance expected from him/her on retirement. Finally, a positive attitude was an indication the worker would be well-prepared for retirement. In summary, workers who displayed resilience and a positive attitude in their work were best prepared for retirement.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze gender gaps in wage and job satisfaction according to skill characteristics and gender composition in occupation type. Most of the previous studies dealing with gender gaps in wage and job satisfaction have limitations in using a model at a single level. To overcome these limitations, this study integrated the analysis of worker level and job level variables through the application of hierarchical linear model. For the empirical analysis, the 20th year of the Korea Labor Institute Panel Survey and Korea Network for Occupations and Workers data used, factor analysis was utilized to derive cognitive, technical and physical skills. According to the empirical results, female workers in the metropolitan area showed lower average wage and job satisfaction than male worker. these gender gaps were alleviated in occupations which requiring a high level of cognitive skill, while deepening in occupation with a high occupational segregation. The purpose of this study is to derive implications for the policy aimed at reducing the gender gap in the labor market by analyzing the relationship between gender gaps in wage and job satisfaction according to skill characteristics and gender composition rates of wage workers in the metropolitan area.

  • We detect lots of problems on the manufacturing spot because of working results done without considering the aptitude and inherited temper(constitution, blood type, male and female) of the worker, and they lead to results not only the occupational disease and the cause of industrial accidents but also quality deterioration and productivity reduction in point of view of manufacturing management. For the purpose of solving these problems, this study is perfomed by grasping the correlation sasang constitutions and job characteristic of small & medium enterprises. We classify sasang constitutions to four types : so-yang-in type, tae-yang-in type, tae-em-in type, so-em-in type by the utilization of QSCC II and the doctor aid of oriental medicine, and also survey differences of classified sasang constitutions with previous studies. This study tries to identify significant features between major jobs resulting from sasang constitution types in a specific small & medium enterprise producing agricultural machinery(a tractor, a combine, etc). The results of this case study indicate that sasang constitution types influences job types. Under the working conditions that virtual reality scene photographed by video camera are running, also the effects of brain function of each worker using Electroencephalograms(EEGs) are investigated. Electroencephalograms(EEGs) provide much information about the brain function, such as relaxation, concentration, various thoughts and so on. Previous studies reported the appearance of ${\theta}$ waves and an increase in the ${\alpha}$ waves during psychologically satisfaction conditions. An statistical analysis of experiments conducted shows the various changes of brain waves(${\alpha},{\beta},{\theta},{\delta}$ waves). By means of these study results, we can identify that sasang constitutions should be applied to contribute much to quality advancement and productivity improvement through a comparative study on the job characteristic.

  • 1. Introduction Community medicine with the concept of comprehensive medical care and an ideal medical care delivery system not only for an individual or family but for the whole community has emerged. In April 1970, the Presbyterian Medical Center started a hospital based community health service project in order to improve the health of the people in rural areas. Prior to commencing a comprehensive medical care system, a family survey was needed. The major objective of this survey was to obtain information concerning the people and their environment so as to be able to plan and implement a comprehensive medical care program in Soyang-Myun. 2. Survey Method An interview using a family record form was carried out for each household. This family record form was designed to get information about demography, family planning, environmental sanitation and vital statistics. Prior to beginning, the members of the survey team were trained in interviewing techniques for three days. The team consisted of a public health nurse, four nurse-aides, a sanitarian and four health extension workers who are working in our project, The survey was carried out during the period November 1971 to March 1972. 3. • In order to protect Rescue 119 workers exposed on the spot from potential infection, this study identified their awareness and practices of infection control so that it could help preventing them from infection and also provide basic materials necessary for pre-hospital infection control. This study applied questionnaire survey to total 215 Rescue 119 workers at fire stations in Jeonbuk province, Jeonnam province and Gwangju city from July 14 to Sept. 14, 2006 for the benefit of data collection. The questionnaire about possible associations between awareness and practices of infection control consisted of total 46 times across 6 categories such as washing hands during emergency activities ; fluid therapy and injection ; respirator maintenance; individual hygienics ; disinfectant supplies and equipments maintenance ; and control of infectious wastes. And collected data were processed using SPSS statistic program to analyze frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test and one-way ANOVA. As a result, this study came to the following conclusions : In terms of awareness about infection control, our respondents showed highest awareness about infectious waste control, and also showed highest level of practices in washing hands during emergency activities. Throughout all domains, awareness means were higher than practice means. In particular, infectious waste control was the domain of significant differences between awareness and practices. In terms of associations between awareness and individual characteristics, it was found that female rescue worker group and hospital/general hospital career group (before joining the Rescue 119) showed significantly higher awareness on statistic level. In regard to associations between individual characteristics and practices, it was found that female rescue worker group showed higher level of practices than male group on statistic level. This study also analyzed correlations between rescue workers' awareness and practice of infection control. As a result, it was found that the higher awareness was in correlations with the higher practices across all 6 domains including washing hands. In addition, the higher awareness of a questionnaire item was in significantly positive correlations with the higher practice of other items. However, our respondents showed high awareness about anti-infection, but low practices in reality. This indicates necessity of devising possible solutions to improve the practices as much as awareness. Especially, it was noted that major reasons for insufficient practices of infection control guideline come from unhabituated practices and lack of supports for infection-preventing supplies and protective device (mask, etc). Hence, it is necessary to provide more infection-preventing supplies for local rescue workers sufficiently, in parallel with steady habituation of infection control. Furthermore, it is required to manage and study infection control policies even at pre-hospital step in efforts for effective infection control, education and activities.
