Effects of Schizonepeta Spica water extrect on the OVA-induced BALB/c mice model of allergic rhinitis (난알부민으로 알레르기 비염이 유발된 마우스에서 형개의 개선효과)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Schizonepeta Spica water extract (SS) on the OVA-induced BLAB/c mice allergic rhinitis model.Methods : Thirty two BALB/c mice were equally assigned to 4 groups; the sham group, the control group, the cetirizine hydrochloride (Cet) treatment group, and the SS treatment group. Sham group was sensitized and challenged with saline, and the other groups were sensitized and challenged with OVA. The dosage of SS was 7.6 mg /kg·day, and Cet was 10 mg/kg·day. Nasal rubbing and sneezing were measured by the behavior observation. The concentrations of IL-1β, IL-10, TNF-α and MIP-2 in the sera of allergic rhinitis model were measured by mouse cytokine/chemokine magnetic bead panel kits. Total IgE and OVA-specific IgE were measured by ELISA method. Epithelial thickness and eosinophil infiltration of nasal septum was investigated by histological examination.Results : The clinical symptoms that increased in control group were significantly reduced in SS-treated group. Serum total IgE and OVA-specific IgE in the SS-treated group were significantly reduced compared to the control group. The concentration of IL-1β, IL-10, TNF-α and MIP-2 in SS-treated group showed a significant reduction compared to the control group. The infiltration of eosinophil into nasal tissues of SS-treated group decreased markedly compared to control group, and thickness of nasal septum in nasal mucosa showed a significant reduction compared to control group.Conclusions : According to the above result, it is suggested that SS may inhibit the early and late phase of allergic rhinitis reaction.

Mossbauer Studies of the $H_2$ Reduction Effects On Magnetic Properties of Sr-Ba Substituted Hexgonal Ferrite (치환형 Sr-Ba 육방 페라이트들의 자기적 성질에 수소환원이 미치는 효과에 관한 Mossbauer 분광학적 연구)

  • Sr substituted materials for some barium in M-type barium ferrite powder and Co-Ti substituted Sr-Ba hexagonal ferrite powder were prepared by citrate sol-gel method and 2 MOE sol-gel method these hexaferrite particles were reduced for 1hr in the hydrogen gas. The reduction temperatures were varied in the range of 250 $^{\circ}C$ to 500 $^{\circ}C$. X-ray diffraction patterns were measured using diffractometer with Cu $K_{\Alhpa}$ radiation. Mossbauer absorption spectra were measured with a constant acceleration spectrometer. We have focused on studying the origin of increasing $M_s$ by M$\"{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy. Ferrite particles which were sintered at 105$0^{\circ}C$ were found to be typical magnetoplumbite structure and single phase. XRD patterns with varying the reduction temperatures in $Sr_{0.5}Ba_{0.5}Fe_{10}O_{19}$ indicates ferrites particles become composite hexaferrites containing $\alpha$-Fe at T_{red}=350 \;$^{\circ}C$$. On the otherhand, it was found that $Co^{2+}$ ions and $Ti^{4+}$ ions in $Sr_{0.7}Ba_{0.3}Fe_{10}CoTiO_{19}$ prevent from changing $Fe^{3+}$ ions to $\alpha$-Fe during the $H_2$ reduction. Comparing Mossbauer results with XRD results, we have determined most of $\alpha$-Fe are reduced from $4f_{vi}$ sites and 12k sites of $Fe^{3+}$ ions. These $\alpha$-Fe phase bring the induced anisotropy and increase saturation magnetization $M_s$.TEX>.

Degraded Products Induced by Gamma-Irradiation of Mangiferin with Anti-Diabetic Complication Effects (감마선 조사에 의한 Mangiferin 변화물의 항당뇨합병증 활성)

  • Inhibition of advanced glycation end product (AGE) formation is a valuable therapeutic strategy for the regulation of diabetic complications. This study was conducted to identify potential therapeutic targets of anti-diabetic complications from irradiated mangiferin using AGE formation assay. Radiolytic degradation of the xanthone glucoside mangiferin by gamma-irradiation resulted in three degraded mangiferin analogues: mangiferdiol (1), mangiferinol (2), and isomangiferinol (3). Structures of the three newly generated compounds were characterized by interpretation of nuclear magnetic resonance ($^1H$, $^{13}C$ NMR, $^1H-^1H$ COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY) and mass spectroscopic data. The anti-diabetic complication of the generated mangiferin derivatives were tested using in vitro AGE formation method. Among the tested degraded products, mangiferinol (2) and isomangiferinol (3) exhibited significantly improved potency against AGE formation inhibitory activities with $IC_{50}$ values of $5.6{\pm}0.8$ and $7.6{\pm}0.9{\mu}M$, respectively. This result implies that xanthone derivatives generated from gamma-irradiated mangiferin might be beneficial for prevention of diabetic complication and related diseases.

A Study on the Wireless Ship Motion Measurement System Using AHRS (AHRS를 이용한 무선 선체 운동 측정 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • The IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) which is the expensive equipment has been used as a special limited area, usually in measurement of posture of applying to the areas of ship, submarine, aircraft and military equipment application. However, in the current situation, MEMS AHRS technology can replace the high-priced IMU in MEMS AHRS selected application field. In this paper, wireless hull motion measurement system was suggested for measuring key elements of ship's movement such as rolling, pitching and yawing using gyro, acceleration and magnetic sensors of AHRS. In order to reduce the error such as instantaneous acceleration, effects and vibration of geomagnetic, we have adopted the sensors equipped with Kalman filtering. The Wireless hull motion measurement system using AHRS sensors was tested in actual ship and it could easily be applied in limited installation circumstances of the ship. In the future, this system can be useful in the navigation safety and marine accident analysis by using with ship equipment such as INS or VDR in the maritime.

A topological metal at the surface of an ultrathin BiSb alloy film

  • Recently there has been growing interest in topological insulators or the quantum spin Hall (QSH) phase, which are insulating materials with bulk band gaps but have metallic edge states that are formed topologically and robust against any non-magnetic impurity [1]. In a three-dimensional material, the two-dimensional surface states correspond to the edge states (topological metal) and their intriguing nature in terms of electronic and spin structures have been experimentally observed in bulk Bi1-xSbx single crystals [2,3,4]. However, if we want to know the transport properties of these topological metals, high purity samples as well as very low temperature will be needed because of the contribution from bulk states or impurity effects. In a recent report, it was also shown that an intriguing coupling between the surface and bulk states will occur [5]. A simple solution to this bothersome problem is to prepare a topological metal on an ultrathin film, in which the surface-to-bulk ratio is drastically increased. Therefore in the present study, we have investigated if there is a method to make an ultrathin Bi1-xSbx film on a semiconductor substrate. From reflection high-energy electron diffraction observation, it was found that single crystal Bi1-xSbx films (0${\sim}30\;{\AA}A$ can be prepared on Si(111)-$7{\times}7$. The transport properties of such films were characterized by in situ monolithic micro four-point probes [6]. The temperature dependence of the resistivity for the x=0.1 samples was insulating when the film thickness was $240\;{\AA}A$. However, it became metallic as the thickness was reduced down to $30\;{\AA}A$, indicating surface-state dominant electrical conduction. Figure 1 shows the Fermi surface of $40\;{\AA}A$ thick Bi0.92Sb0.08 (a) and Bi0.84Sb0.16 (b) films mapped by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The basic features of the electronic structure of these surface states were shown to be the same as those found on bulk surfaces, meaning that topological metals can be prepared at the surface of an ultrathin film. A Study of pH, Duty Cycle, Agitation on the Property of Co-deposited TiO2 and Thermal Stability in the Electrodeposited Ni-TiO2 Composite (pH, duty cycle, 교반, 첨가제가 Ni-TiO2 전기도금 복합체의 TiO2 공석특성과 열적안정성에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The effects of pH, types of applied current, agitation method and time, additive on the amount of co-deposited $TiO_2$ particles in the matrix were investigated. The deposition rates increased with increasing pH values, while the volume fraction of $TiO_2$ particles and the size of agglomerated $TiO_2$ particles in the composite decreased. The volume fraction of $TiO_2$ particles in the composite decreased when pulsed current of 50% duty cycle was used. And the size of agglomerated $TiO_2$ particles in the nickel matrix of pulsed current was smaller than that of DC current specimen. The volume fraction of $TiO_2$ particles in the matrix decreased with longer time by air agitation, but in case of using magnetic bar, volume fraction in the same range of time was relatively constant. The volume fraction of the electrodeposited Ni-$TiO_2$ composite in the solution containing 0.01 M Dimethylamine borane (DMAB) increased slightly with increasing agitation time regardless of agitation methods. Thermal stability of the electrodeposited Ni-$TiO_2$ composite increased with lower pH at the temperature range of $200{\sim}800^{\circ}C$, and the results showed that the amount of co-deposited $TiO_2$ relies more on the deposition rate than zetapotential of $TiO_2$ particles.

Obtaining Informed Consent Using Patient Specific 3D Printing Cerebral Aneurysm Model

  • Objective : Recently, three-dimensional (3D) printed models of the intracranial vascular have served as useful tools in simulation and training for cerebral aneurysm clipping surgery. Precise and realistic 3D printed aneurysm models may improve patients' understanding of the 3D cerebral aneurysm structure. Therefore, we created patient-specific 3D printed aneurysm models as an educational and clinical tool for patients undergoing aneurysm clipping surgery. Herein, we describe how these 3D models can be created and the effects of applying them for patient education purpose. Methods : Twenty patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm were randomly divided into two groups. We explained and received informed consent from patients in whom 3D printed models-(group I) or computed tomography angiography-(group II) was used to explain aneurysm clipping surgery. The 3D printed intracranial aneurysm models were created based on time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography using a 3D printer with acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resin as the model material. After describing the model to the patients, they completed a questionnaire about their understanding and satisfaction with aneurysm clipping surgery. Results : The 3D printed models were successfully made, and they precisely replicated the actual intracranial aneurysm structure of the corresponding patients. The use of the 3D model was associated with a higher understanding and satisfaction of preoperative patient education and consultation. On a 5-point Likert scale, the average level of understanding was scored as 4.7 (range, 3.0-5.0) in group I. In group II, the average response was 2.5 (range, 2.0-3.0). Conclusion : The 3D printed models were accurate and useful for understanding the intracranial aneurysm structure. In this study, 3D printed intracranial aneurysm models were proven to be helpful in preoperative patient consultation.

A Novel Therapeutic Effect of a New Variant of CTLA4-Ig with Four Antennas That Are Terminally Capped with Sialic Acid in the CTLA4 Region

  • Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a multifactorial immune-mediated disease, the pathogenesis of which involves different cell types. T-cell activation plays an important role in RA. Therefore, inhibiting T-cell activation is one of the current therapeutic strategies. Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4-immunoglobulin (CTLA4-Ig), also known as abatacept, reduces cytokine secretion by inhibiting T-cell activation. To achieve a homeostatic therapeutic effect, CTLA4-Ig has to be administered repeatedly over several weeks, which limits its applicability in RA treatment. To overcome this limitation, we increased the number of sialic acid-capped antennas by genetically engineering the CTLA4 region to increase the therapeutic effect of CTLA4-Ig. N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase (GnT) and α2,6-sialyltransferase (α2,6-ST) were co-overexpressed in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells to generate a highly sialylated CTLA4-Ig fusion protein, named ST6. The therapeutic and immunogenic effects of ST6 and CTLA4-Ig were compared. ST6 dose-dependently decreased paw edema in a mouse model of collagen-induced arthritis and reduced cytokine levels in a co-culture cell assay in a similar manner to CTLA4-Ig. ST6- and CTLA4-Ig-induced T cell-derived cytokines were examined in CD4 T cells isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells after cell killing through irradiation followed by flow- and magnetic-bead-assisted separation. Interestingly, compared to CTLA4-Ig, ST6 was substantially less immunogenic and more stable and durable. Our data suggest that ST6 can serve as a novel, less immunogenic therapeutic strategy for patients with RA.

Development of Data Analysis and Interpretation Methods for a Hybrid-type Unmanned Aircraft Electromagnetic System (하이브리드형 무인 항공 전자탐사시스템 자료의 분석 및 해석기술 개발)

  • Recently, multiple methods using small aircraft for geophysical exploration have been suggested as a result of the development of information and communication technology. In this study, we introduce the hybrid unmanned aircraft electromagnetic system of the Korea Institute of Geosciences and Mineral resources, which is under development. Additionally, data processing and interpretation methods are suggested via the analysis of datasets obtained using the system under development to verify the system. Because the system uses a three-component receiver hanging from a drone, the effects of rotation on the obtained data are significant and were therefore corrected using a rotation matrix. During the survey, the heights of the source and the receiver and their offsets vary in real time and the measured data are contaminated with noise. The noise makes it difficult to interpret the data using the conventional method. Therefore, we developed a recurrent neural network (RNN) model to enable rapid predictions of the apparent resistivity using magnetic field data. Field data noise is included in the training datasets of the RNN model to improve its performance on noise-contaminated field data. Compared with the results of the electrical resistivity survey, the trained RNN model predicted similar apparent resistivities for the test field dataset.

The Water Leaching Behavior of Vanadium from a Salt-roasted VTM Concentrate and the Preparation of High-concentration Vanadium Solution (VTM 정광 염배소 산물에 대한 바나듐 수침출 거동 분석 및 고농도 바나듐 용액 제조)

  • This study investigated the water leaching behavior of vanadium in Na2CO3-roasted vanadium-bearing titaniferous magnetite (VTM) concentrate. The magnetic concentrate and Na2CO3, mixed in a mass ratio of 4:1, were roasted at 1050 ℃, kept for 3 h, and ground to a size of D50 = 48.79 ㎛ using a rod mill. The effects of leaching temperature and pulp density on water leaching were then investigated. The results show that the vanadium leaching efficiency decreased to 90.4%, 88.2%, and 83.8% as the temperature increased to 25, 55, and 85 ℃, respectively, whereas it remained almost constant 90.4%, 87.0%, and 87.0% as the pulp density increased to 10, 50, and 100 w/v%, respectively. Based on the preliminary leaching results, multi-stage leaching was conducted with the experimental conditions of 25 ℃, 100 w/v%, 300 rpm, and 1 h. The vanadium concentration in the final leaching solution was determined as 16.20 g/L after four stages of leaching. Thus, a high-concentration sodium vanadate solution was prepared by multi-stage leaching.
