Flowers of Magnolia denudata has been reported to possess a variety of pharmacological activities. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects and mechanism of the water extract of Flowers of Magnolia denudata(MD) in lipopolysacchride (LPS)-mediated inflammatory mediators in murine peritoneal macrophages. MD itself does not have any toxic effects in murine peritoneal macrophages. MD inhibits LPS-induced nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$, IL-6 and IL-12 production in murine peritoneal macrophages. Furthermore, we have found that MD inhibited LPS-induced $NF-{\kappa}B$ but not c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), p38 and extracellular signal-ragulated kinase (ERK) activation. These results suggested that MD inhibit LPS-induced production of $TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-6 and IL-12 via suppression of the $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation.

The present experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feed processing and feeding methods on growth performance and carcass characteristics of growing-finishing pigs. A total of 72 pigs (LYD, 22.24 kg BW) were employed for a 90-d feeding trial. Treatments were 1) mash dry feeding (MD), 2) mash wet feeding (MW), 3) pellet dry feeding (PD), and 4) extruded pellet dry feeding (EPD). Corn, soybean meal and wheat bran in the basal diets were extruded before mixing and pelleting for EPD diet production. Ileal or fecal digestibility and carcass traits including lean meat percentage and weights of stomach ulcer were also examined. During the growing period, pigs fed PD showed improved (p < 0.05) average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion (F/G) over those fed MD, whereas no significant differences in average daily feed intake (ADFI) were found among dietary treatments. Finisher pigs fed MD showed lover, but not significant, ADG and F/G than those fed MW, PD or EPD. For the overall period, pigs fed PD grew faster (p < 0.05) than those fed MD or EPD. Feed intake was different between the two feeding methods (MD vs MW), and between the two processed feeds (PD vs EPD). The digestibility of crude fat was higher (p < 0.05) in pigs fed EPD than in pigs fed mash feeds. NFE digestibility of EPD treatment was also higher (p < 0.05) than that of PD. Back fat (10th rib area) was thicker (p < 0.05) tn pigs fed MD than in pigs fed EPD. other carcass traits including incidence of esophagogastric ulcers were not different among treatments. In conclusion, pelleting appeared to bo the desirable processing methods and wet feeding could also be recommended for growing-finishing pigs.
Proton exchange membrane (PEM) is one of the key components of membrane-electrode assembly (MEA), which plays important role in fuel cell performance together with catalysts. It is widely accepted that water channel morphology inside PEMs as a proton pathway significantly affects the PEM performance. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are a very useful tool to understand molecular and atomic structures of materials, so that many related researches are currently being studied. In this paper, we summarize the current research trend in MD simulations, present which properties can be characterized, and finally introduce the usefulness of MD simulations to the researchers for proton exchange membranes.

Madelung's disease (MD) is a rare disease characterized by diffuse, nonencapsulated, multiple fat masses in different areas of the body. In this case report, we present a case of MD in Asia and its management. A 66-year-old man with a history of hypertension presented with massive growth of soft tissue around the neck, breasts, upper back, and lower abdomen. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging revealed remarkably hypertrophic fat tissue around the neck and anterior chest was wall, which consistent with the diagnosis of MD. Multiple linear incisions were made on the neck and 763, 186, 635 g of posterior, right, and left fat tissues were excised, respectively. A single wide, transverse incision was done to excise 1,072 g of fat from the upper back. Masses of both breasts were excised, preserving the inferior pedicle, weighing 1,086 (right) and 1,164 g (left). The recovery was optimal and the patient was discharged without complications. In this case, we excised the adipose masses as much as possible and improved contour and symmetry. However, the fat infiltrations in the patient were diffusely distributed, making total fat excision difficult. This rare case report may help in managing patients with MD.

This paper proposes the multidimensioa! nested attribute indexing techniques (MD- NAI) in object-oriented databases using a multidimensional index structure. Since most conventional indexing techniques for object oriented databases use a one-dimensional index stnlcture such as the B-tree, they do not often handle complex qUlTies involving both nested attributes and class hierarchies. We extend a tunable two dimensional class hierachy indexing technique(2D-CHI) for nested attributes. The 2D-CHI is an indexing scheme that deals with the problem of clustering ohjects in a two dimensional domain space that consists of a kev attribute dOI11'lin and a class idmtifier domain for a simple attribute in a class hierachy. In our extended scheme, we construct indexes using multidimensional file organizations that include one class identifier domain per class hierarchy on a path expression that defines the indexed nested attribute. This scheme efficiently suppoI1s queries that involve search conditions on the nested attribute represcnted by an extcnded path expression. An extended path expression is a one in which a class hierarchy can be substituted by an indivisual class or a subclass hierarchy in the class hierarchy.

The weighting method and goal programming require weighting factors or target values to obtain a Pareto optimal solution. However, it is difficult to define these parameters, and a Pareto solution is not guaranteed when the choice of the parameters is incorrect. Recently, the Mahalanobis Taguchi System (MTS) has been introduced to minimize the Mahalanobis distance (MD). However, the MTS method cannot obtain a Pareto optimal solution. We propose a function called the skewed Mahalanobis distance (SMD) to obtain a Pareto optimal solution while retaining the advantages of the MD. The SMD is a new distance scale that multiplies the skewed value of a design point by the MD. The weighting factors are automatically reflected when the SMD is calculated. The SMD always gives a unique Pareto optimal solution. To verify the efficiency of the SMD, we present two numerical examples and show that the SMD can obtain a unique Pareto optimal solution without any additional information.
The purpose of this study is to optimally allocate the human resources to tasks while minimizing the total daily human resource costs and smoothing the human resource usage. The human resource allocation problem (hRAP) under consideration contains two kinds of special constraints, i.e. operational precedence and skill constraints in addition to the ordinary constraints. To deal with the multiple objectives and the special constraints, first we designed this hRAP as a network problem and then proposed a Pareto multistage decisionbased genetic algorithm (P-mdGA). During the evolutionary process of P-mdGA, a Pareto evaluation procedure called generalized Pareto-based scale-independent fitness function approach is used to evaluate the solutions. Additionally, in order to improve the performance of P-mdGA, we use fuzzy logic controller for fine-tuning of genetic parameters. Finally, in order to demonstrate the applicability and to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, P-mdGA is applied to solve a case study in a hotel, where the managers usually need helpful automatic support for effectively allocating hotel staff to hotel tasks.
Mating disruption (MD) using synthetic sex pheromone lures has been used to control the Oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta (Busck), in apple orchards. In Korea, where several small apple orchards are clustered but independently managed, its efficacy has been suspected mainly due to immigration of any mated females from nearby untreated cultivating areas. This study developed an edge treatment technique to decrease any local MD-free zones in a specific MD-treated farm and to trap any immigrating mated females by installing MD lures and food traps around the apple farm with 10 meter intervals. The addition of the edge treatment to the MD significantly prevented leaf and fruit damages induced by G. molesta compared to MD only. Moreover, this study tried to optimize the MD control technique by determining frequency of MD application. It suggests two MD applications with the edge treatment at the end of March and at the early of July to be effective throughout the entire apple growing seasons.

Digital watermarks have recently been proposed for the purposes of copyright ptotechtion and autheutication for multimedia contents. A watermarking technique consists of an algorithm that incorporates a watermarking structure into an image in the spatial or frequency domains. In this paper we proposed a new watermarking method for authentication and integrity of digital images and the proposed algorithm uses the MD5 hash funiction and a symmetric key encryption algorithm. To decide the position of embedding watermark and the bit pasitionin the original image, the secret key is used as an input of the MD5 hash function. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has the advantage of difficulty to find positions of inserted watermarks, and keep the similar watermarked image quabty with Wong's method.
The human microbiome is known to play an essential role in influencing host health. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have also been reported to act on a variety of signaling pathways, distally transport cellular components such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acid, and have immunomodulatory effects. Here we shall review the current understanding of the intersectionality of the human microbiome and EVs in the emerging field of microbiota-derived EVs and their pharmacological potential. Microbes secrete several classes of EVs: outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), membrane vesicles (MVs), and apoptotic bodies. EV biogenesis is unique to each cell and regulated by sophisticated signaling pathways. EVs are primarily composed of lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, and recent evidence suggests they may also carry metabolites. These components interact with host cells and control various cellular processes by transferring their constituents. The pharmacological potential of microbiome-derived EVs as vaccine candidates, biomarkers, and a smart drug delivery system is a promising area of future research. Therefore, it is necessary to elucidate in detail the mechanisms of microbiome-derived EV action in host health in a multi-disciplinary manner.
