  • In this paper, we propose a fuse controller which is used for storing the optimal value or the correction value for the surrounding product of the IoT applications and it is implemented serial communication circuit using a single pin. Because of the proposed single pin protocol is simpler in the hardware than the conventional $I^2C$ and SPI using two or more pins, it is suitable for the area of small amount of data transmission. The function of the one pin protocol is verified by logic simulation and the FPGA test board and it is fabricated using CMOS 0.35um technology. It is expected to use the IoT product that require the low power consumption and simple hardware.

  • In the present study, a gamma-ray detector and associated signal processing circuit was developed for a side-absorber of a dual-mode Compton camera. The gamma-ray detector was made by optically coupling a CsI(Tl) scintillation crystal to a silicon photodiode. The developed signal processing circuit consists of two parts, i.e., the slow part for energy measurement and the fast part for timing measurement. In the fast part, there are three components: (1) fast shaper, (2) leading-edge discriminator, and (3) TTL-to-NIM logic converter. AC coupling configuration between the detector and front-end electronics (FEE) was used. Because the noise properties of FEE can significantly affect the overall performance of the detection system, some design criteria were presented. The performance of the developed system was evaluated in terms of energy and timing resolutions. The evaluated energy resolution was 12.0% and 15.6% FWHM for 662 and 511 keV peaks, respectively. The evaluated timing resolution was 59.0 ns. In the conclusion, the methods to improve the performance were discussed because the developed gamma-ray detection system showed the performance that could be applicable but not satisfactory in Compton camera application.

  • In this paper, an intelligent resynthesis technique for timing optimization at the architecture-level has been studied. The proposed technique can remedy the problem which may occur in combinational timing optimization techniques applied to circuits which have the hierarchical subblock structure at the architectural-level. The approach first tries to maintain the original hierarchical subblock while minimizing the longest delay of whole circuit. This paper tries to find a new approach to timing optimization for circuits which have hierarchical structure at architectural-level, and has verified its effectiveness experimentally. We claim its usefulness from the fact that most designers design the circuits hierarchically due to the increase of design complexity.

  • We designed asynchronous event logic library with 0.25um CMOS technology and interface chip for heterogeneous system with high-speed asynchronous FIFO operating at 1.6GHz. Optimized asynchronous standard cell layouts and Verilog models are designed for top-down design methodology. A Method for mitigating a design bottleneck when it comes to tolerate clock skew is described. This communication scheme using clock control circuits, which is used for the free of synchronization failures, is analyzed and implemented. With clock control circuit and FIFO, high-speed communication between synchronous modules operating at different clock frequencies or with asynchronous modules is performed. The core size of implemented high-speed 32bit-interface chip for heterogeneous system is about $1.1mm{\times}1.1mm$.

  • In this paper, the IC (Integrated Circuit) for multi-channel asynchronous communication was designed by using FPGA and VHDL language. The existing chips for asynchronous communication that has been used commercially are composed of one to two channels. Therefore, when communication system with two channels or more is made, the cost becomes high and it becomes complicated for communication system to be realized and also has very little buffer, load that is placed into Microprocessor increases heavily in case of high speed communication or transmission of high-capacity data. The designed IC was improved the function and performance of communication system and reduced costs by designing 8 asynchronous communication channels with only one IC, and it has the size of transmitter/receiver buffer with 256 bytes respectively and consequently high speed communication became possible. To detect errors between communications, it was designed with digital filter and check-sum logic and channel MUX logic so that the malfunction can be prevented and errors can be detected more easily and input/output port regarding each communication channel can be used flexibly and consequently the reliability of system was improved. It was composed and simulated logic of VHDL described by using Cyclone II Series EP2C35F672C8 and QuartusII V8.1 of ALTERA company. In order to show the performance of designed IC, the test was conducted successfully in QuartusII simulation and experiment and the excellency was compared with TL16C550A of TI (Texas Instrument) company and ATmegal28 general-purpose micro controller of ATMEL company that are used widely as chips for asynchronous communication.

  • Wide-band sharp-transition filters are widely used in applications such as wireless CODEC design or medical systems. Since these filters suffer from large sensitivity and roundoff noise, large word-length is required for the VLSI implementation, which increases the hardware size and the power consumption of the chip. In this paper, a low-power implementation technique for digital filters with wide-band sharp-transition characteristics is proposed using CPL (Complementary Pass-Transistor Logic), LWDF (Lattice Wave Digital Filter) and a modified DIFIR (Decomposed & Interpolated FIR) algorithm. To reduce the short-circuit current component in CPL circuits due to threshold voltage reduction through the pass transistor, three different approaches can be used: cross-coupled PMOS latch, PMOS body biasing and weak PMOS latch. Of the three, the cross-coupled PMOS latch approach is the most realistic solution when the noise margin as well as the energy-delay product is considered. To optimize CPL transistor size with insight, the empirical formulas for the delay and energy consumption in the basic structure of CPL circuits were derived from the simulation results. In addition, the filter coefficients are encoded using CSD (Canonic Signed Digit) format and optimized by a coefficient quantization program. The hardware cost is minimized further by a modified DIFIR algorithm. Simulation result shows that the proposed method can achieve about 38% reductions in power consumption compared with the conventional method.

  • This paper presents the design of an implantable stimulation IC intended for neural prosthetic devices using $0.18-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology. The proposed single-channel biphasic current stimulator prototype is designed to deliver up to 1 mA of current to the tissue-equivalent $10-k{\Omega}$ load using 12.8-V supply voltage. To utilize only low-voltage standard CMOS transistors in the design, transistor stacking with dynamic gate biasing technique is used for reliable operation at high-voltage. In addition, active charge balancing circuit is used to maintain zero net charge at the stimulation site over the complete stimulation cycle. The area of the total stimulator IC consisting of DAC, current stimulation output driver, level-shifters, digital logic, and active charge balancer is $0.13mm^2$ and is suitable to be applied for multi-channel neural prosthetic devices.

  • In this paper, the design and implementation of K-Band frequency dividers using 130 nm CMOS process are presented. A Miller frequency divider is presented, which realizes a division range from 20 to 25 GHz with 7.2 mW power consumption from 1.2 V supply. The layout size of the core circuit is about $315{\times}246\;um^2$. In addition, a CML frequency divider which divides the output signal of the Miller frequency divider is also presented, which realizes a division range from 8.5 to 13 GHz with 5.7 mW power consumption. The layout size of the CML core is about $91{\times}98\;um^2$. Cascading the Miller and CML frequency dividers, we confirmed the divide-by-4 operation for the input signal from 20 to 25 GHz.
