  • In this paper, test on characteristics of 3-phase line-interactive UPS system, known as delta conversion UPS system, is studied. Delta conversion UPS system is new line-interactive UPS system using two series-parallel PWM converters instead of using series inductor in conventional single conversion line-interactive UPS system. It is known that the characteristics of input and output in delta conversion UPS system is much improved by controlling source current of AC lines directly. Here the results on load test, normal/backup mode test, and normal/bypass mode test, which are very important in the test on characteristics of UPS system, is presented. And finally overall evaluation on delta conversion UPS system is given.

  • We design and analyze the cloaking circuit using 2D transmission line structure to make up for the weakness of the established cloaking circuit using only lumped inductor and capacitor elements. The 2D transmission line structure enables one to conveniently design the cloaking circuit with available element values. All the necessary analysis and synthesis(design) formulas have been derived. A cloaking circuit for a cylindrical scatterer in free space has been designed based on the provided design formulas and its effects have been investigated using the circuit simulator ADS. The effect of the cloaking medium for this specific case has been observed to be about 10.5 dB.

  • Conventional SAW duplexer filters employ a 1/4 wavelength transmission line, which causes difficulty in fabrication of the strip line on the package. Its manufacturing process is also complicated, because it needs integrating process of the separate transmitting filter, receiving filter and isolation circuits. This paper concerns development of a new structure of the duplexer filter that has all the transmitting filter, the receiving filter and the isolation circuit as a one chip device. For composition of the duplexer, we design the component SAW ladder filters and the isolation network consisting of lumped inductor and capacitor elements. Performance of the whole duplexer is optimized by the nonlinear multivariable minimization of a proper target function, and the result is compared with that of commercial filters.

  • The characteristics of on-chip spiral rectangular inductors in CMOS process are investigated through the simulation and experiment. The ADS-momentum is used for EM simulation, and the spiral inductors are fabricated with Hynix 0.35㎛ CMOS process. This research mainly concerned the effects of the geometric change in terms of the number of turns and the width of micro strip line. The measured and simulated results show that the Hynix 0.35㎛ process could support a top metal spiral inductor of 1nH to 6nH with Q-factor less than 5.

  • In this study, we propose characteristics improvement methods according to via hole plating method for FBAR Duplexer with bandwidth($T_x4: 1850 MHz ~ 1910 MHz, $R_x$:1930 MHz ~ 1990 MHz) which is used for wireless systems. Also, we designed and fabricated $3.8{\times}3.8{\times}1.8mm$ size microminiature FBAR Duplexer based on this proposal. First of all, in this study, we fabricated pentagon shape resonators by different size to make filter combination, and their quality factor(Q) are 687 with 6.6% of ${k_{eff}}^2$. Using this resonators, we designed $3{\times}2$ Type $T_x$ filter and $3{\times}4$ Type $R_x$ filter. The transmission line, which works as phase shifter, is designed with 210 ${\mu}m$ in width and 18 mm in length Stripline type. Inductor, which is used for matching component, is designed with width of 75 ${\mu}m$, a technically achievable minimum width. And adopted plating method of filling via hole with conductive epoxy for improved grounding and thermal conductivity. Using these configuration with all of the matching component values, we found Duplexer characteristics of -1.57 dB ~ -1.73 dB in insertion loss, -56 dB in attenuation at 1850 MHz ~ 1910 MHz of $T_x$ band. Also, found -2.71 dB ~ -3.23 dB in insertion loss, -58 dB in attenuation at 1930 MHz ~ 1990 MHz of $R_x$ band.

  • In this paper, we design a ring inductor using the ferrite core to denoise the EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) for facsimile. The EMI for facsimile is radiated from the signal line of PSTN(Public Switching Telephone Network) between facsimile and PSTN. We denoise the radiated noise by inserting a ferrite core(Ni-Zn) between facsimile and PSTN. Even though we may denoise the radiated noise using two or more than two ferrite cores, we only concentrate on denoising EMI by adjusting number of turns of one ferrite core since it gives economical gain. As a result of measuring EMI using the designed inductor with 4 turns inserted in the line connected between facsimile and PSTN, the value of radiated emission is reduced below 30 dB$\mu$V/m.

  • Co-fired resistors for high frequency MCM-C (Multi Chip Module-Cofired) were fabricated and measured their RF properties from DC to 6 GHz. LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) substrates with 8 layers were used as the substrates. Resisters and electrodes were printed on the 7th layer and connected to the top layer by via holes. Deviation from DC resistance of the resistors was resulted from the resister pastes, resistor size, and via length. From the experimental results, the suitable equivalent circuit model was adopted with resistor, transmission line, capacitor, and inductor. The characteristic impedance $Z_{o}$ of the transmission line from the equivalent circuit can explain the RF behavior of the buried resistor according to the structural variation.

  • In this study, highly miniaturized short-wavelength meander line employing eriodically patterned ground structure (PPGS) was developed for application to miniaturized on-chip passive component on GaAs MMIC (monolithic microwave integrated circuit). The meander line employing PPGS showed shorter wavelength and slow-wave characteristic compared with conventional meander line. The wavelength of the meander line employing PPGS structure was 17 % of the conventional meander line on GaAs MMIC. Due to its slow-wave structure, the meander line employing PPGS exhibited large propagation constant than conventional meander line, which resulted in larger phase shift and shunt inductance value. Above results indicate that the meander line employing PPGS is a promising candidate for application to a development of miniaturized on-chip RF components as well as inductor with a high inductance value on GaAs MMIC.
