  • Based on the proven feasibility of bottom ash and tire shred-soil mixtures as lightweight fill materials, tire shred-bottom ash mixtures were suggested as a new lightweight fill material to replace the conventional construction material with bottom ash. Therefore, we carried out the laboratory test, field compaction test and performance test of large scale embankment in order to evaluate their suitability for the use of lightweight fill materials in the before studies. We could verified that the ash, tire-shred and the mixture are able to be the useful materials as light fill materials. In this study, we estimated the long-term compressible settlements for 6 materials such as TA(Tire-Bottom Ash mixture), TBA(Tire-Bottom Ash<5mm) mixture, TWS(Tire-Weathered Soil mixture), Bottom Ash, Bottom Ash(<5mm), Weathered soils.

  • Recently, a global trend has been established to facilitate the use of waste materials in geotechnical engineering applications. In Korea, where there is the need to save natural resources as these may become scare in the near future and to prevent excessive ground excavation for natural aggregates. The annual production of scrap tire and bottom ash has sharply increased in recent years. Therefore, it will be good waste resource recycling, if we can utilize the above wastes as fill materials in soft ground. In this study, based on the proven feasibility of bottom ash and tire shred-soil mixtures as lightweight fill materials, tire shred-bottom ash mixtures were suggested as a new lightweight fill material to replace the conventional construction material(soil) with bottom ash. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to investigate the feasibility of tire shred-bottom ash mixtures in order to estimate their suitability for the use of lightweight fill materials. So we carried out the performance tests of 2 large scale embankment which were made with tire shred-bottom ash mixture and the conventional fill material(weathered soil) respectively.

Furthermore, we are examining the ground water quality in the surrounding area of the test embankment.

Therefore, we carried out the field compaction test and performance test of large scale embankment in order to evaluate their suitability for the use of lightweight fill materials. The earthpressure and vibration transmission was decreased and the settlement behaviour of the 2 materials (tire shred mixture and weathered soil) was measured similarly under static/cyclic loading condition.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the ways of recycling of by-product limes as lightweight fill, backfill materials, and lightweight blocks by performing experimental study. New lightweight fill materials and blocks were devised by mixing by-product lime, weathered granite soil, small pieces of waste EPS, and Portland cement. Physical, geotechnical, and environmental properties of the lightweight mixed soils and blocks were analysed by laboratory experiments for mixed samples manufactured with various mixing ratios. KMS tests were also performed to evaluate the concentration variation of the chemical components of the light weight blocks leachates. It is expected that this study will contribute to resolving the problem of by-product lime disposal as well as to recycling the by-product limes as fill materials and blocks.

  • This is a fundamental research on use as fill material of lightweight waste such as bottom ash and tire shred. We carried out the test for particle size distribution, specific gravity, density, shear strength, permeability and vertical compression settlement, considering water content change and temperature effect of several waste materials. Bottom ash, which is lighter than soils, has similar permeability and particle size distribution to those of weathered soils. But permeability may differ depending on the particle size distribution. The shear strength aspect of bottom ash and tire shred mixed materials are similar to that of natural fill materials. In the 1-D vertical compression settlement test, we could be assured that bottom ash and tire shred mixed materials showed similar compression settlement to that of sand under actual vertical stress. Furthermore, materials including bottom ash showed smaller compression settlement than that of weathered soils in the long-term settlement test under wetting and freezing-thawing condition.

  • Mechanical characteristics of bottom ash produced in coal-fired power plant are investigated to utilize as light-weight fill materials. Triaxial compression test, water retention test, and unsaturated direct shear test were conducted for weathered soil (WS), reclaimed bottom ash (RBA), and screened bottom ash (BA). RBA had larger frictional angle and lower effective cohesion than those of WS. Water retention charactersitics of RBA and BA existed within distributions of soil-water characteristic curves for domestic weathered soils. Unsaturated shear strength of RBA was similar to that of WS at matric suctions of 50 kPa and 100 kPa. As a conclusion, bottom ash can be used as fill materials to replace the conventional construction materials by.

  • This paper presents the engineering property of light weight soil made of soil mixed with recycled stylofoam and stabilizer. Recycled stylofoam beads is able to use by lightweight fill materials because it is light, adiabatic, and effective for vibration interception. Especially, recycled stylofoam beads is easy to supply because stylofoam have been recycle item in 1996. In this study, physical and geotechnical properties of the light weight mixed soil(weathered granite soil mixed with Stylofoam Beads) were analyzed by laboratory experiments to examine its suitability for backfill materials. Laboratory tests were performed to evaluated strength, bearing capacity, weight, permeability, microphotograph analysis with variation of mixing ratio. Based on the results, it is concluded that the use of recycled stylofoam beads is acceptable lightweight fill.

  • This study is on the injection molding analysis for the LED outdoor lighting top cover of one heat sink body type structure. Thermoplastic and thermosetting resins were applied to compare the thermal properties during the injection molding process. The thermoplastic resin is used in this study due to special characteristics that it is light, good strength and dose long not transmute quality even if pass long time. The thermosetting resin is applied to this study due to good in strength, lightweight and excellent etc, thermal conductivity. This study presented a preliminary analysis of fill time, weld line, air trap etc. for the injection molding process of LED lamp cover and body through simulation using Moldflow. As a result of the study, it was selected HTM-102 material because the thermosetting resin has excellent strength and heat conductivity.

  • In the year 2020, a new lightweight block cipher µ2 is proposed. It has both good software and hardware performance, and it is especially suitable for constrained resource environment. However, the security evaluation on µ2 against impossible differential cryptanalysis seems missing from the specification. To fill this gap, an impossible differential cryptanalysis on µ2 is proposed. In this paper, firstly, some cryptographic properties on µ2 are proposed. Then several longest 7-round impossible differential distinguishers are constructed. Finally, an impossible differential cryptanalysis on µ2 reduced to 10 rounds is proposed based on the constructed distinguishers. The time complexity for the attack is about 269.63 10-round µ2 encryptions, the data complexity is O(248), and the memory complexity is 263.57 Bytes. The reported result indicates that µ2 reduced to 10 rounds can't resist against impossible differential cryptanalysis.
