The Purpose of this study are to develop the simulation(Tank model, Rainfall-runoff model) for the estimation of wily river discharge and for evaluation of wily pollutant loads from the watersheds of the objected basin area. As apply this constructed Tank model to Nakdong river region, we evaluated the wily river discharge of Nakdong river from use-land conditions, precipitation and evaporation data of 3 years(from 1998 to 2000) and investigate the seasonal fluctuation of SS, COD, TN, TP inflowing into Nakdong river. The result shows that summer has high pollutant level than winter in seasonal characteristic and the down stream has high pollutant level than the upper stream. The annual average of SS, COD, TN, TP flawing in Nakdong river(Samranjin) was estimated each 691ton-COD/year, 1854.2ton-SS/year, 382.8ton-TN/year and 13.0ton- TP/year.

Noise mapping is performed in the city of Cheongju which has 626,614 inhabitants on a $153.41km^2$ area. This city has 71,387 buildings and 969,274m roads. Many database sets like information of roads, topography and buildings are required for making the noise map of large area. These database sets are provided by the various departments of the regional administration in Cheongju city. Using the given database sets, 3-dimensional model of topography and buildings are made to consider the multi-reflections and diffractions. A predicted noise level is compared with measured noise level of the road traffic noise. As the tool of management and decision of urban noise policy, noise map is combined into the map of land use to make the conflict noise map. This conflict noise map is useful to assess the present urban noise and to make the better life in complicated urban life.

In this paper the advanced method of geodesic active contours was developed for the task of building detection from aerial and satellite images. Automatic extraction of man-made structures including buildings, building blocks or roads from remote sensing data is useful for land use mapping, scene understanding, robotic navigation, image retrieval, surveillance, emergency management procedures, cadastral etc. A level set method based on a region-driven segmentation model was implemented with which building boundaries were detected, through this curve propagation technique. The essence of this approach is to optimize the position and the geometric form of the curve by measuring information along that curve, and within the regions that compose the image partition. To this end, one can consider uniform intensities inside objects and the background. Thus, given an initial position of the curve, one can determine global, region-driven functions and provide a statistical description of the inside and outside object area. The calculus of variations and a gradient descent method was used to optimize the variational functional by an iterative steady state process. Experimental results demonstrate the potential of the proposed processing scheme.

A traditional image analysis or classification method using satellite imagery is mostly based on the spectral information. However, the spatial information is more important according as the resolution is higher and spatial patterns are more complex. In this study, we attempted to compare and analyze the variogram properties of actual high resolution imageries mainly in the urban area. Through the several experiments, we have understood that the variogram is various according to a sensor type, spatial resolution, a location, a feature type, time, season and so on and shows the information related to a feature size. With simple modeling, we confirmed that the unique variogram types were shown unlike the classical variogram in case of small subsets. Based on the grasped variogram characteristics, we made a level index map for determining urban complexity or land-use classification. These results will become more and more important and be widely applied to the various fields of high-resolution imagery such as KOMPSAT-2 and KOMPSAT-3 which is scheduled to be launched.

Resulties of research on the capacity of ground water of 994 concrete-pipe-wells and 97 infiltration-gallerys in ground-water-developement-works region executed from March to Julyin 1969, in Choong Chung Nam Do, and research on the quality of ground water for 88 wells for home-use around of River Geum Area, are as fellows: (1) Thickness of aquifer is no more than 2.85m averagely even at river-overflowed plain, alluvial plain and valley plain area that are estimated to contain ground water mostly. And so, it is guessed that ground water capacity is not much especially. (2) Soil of aquifer of the above area is sand or gravel and it is estimated to be good for ground water developement and its mean permeability coefficient is bout $2.5{\times}10^{-3}$(m/sec), and its porosity is about 33.9%. (3) The quality of ground water is good for irrigation water exception of delta plain area. Warm water plan is to need for irrigation water when water temperature is less than 19 degrees below zero. (4) Prospect of ground water developement, judging from quality and quantity, expects to lay infiltration gallery under the ground at river bed in order to utilize under-flow-water of river bed, river-overflowed plain, alluvial plain and valley plain that ground level is less than 50m. (5) Collectable water volume of under-flow-water of river bed is about 450 to $750m^3/day$ to be able to irrigate 3ha to 5ha of the cultivated land in case that infiltration gallery length is 50m and its depth is about 5m. (6) Collectable water volume at river-overflowed plain, alluvial plain and valley plain area, is estimated $150m^3/day$ to be able to irrigated 1ha of the cultivated land.

This research has a significance on providing basic material of landscape ecological planning and open space planning of the future site by selecting Sinseo innovative city area, large residential land development district in rural area, by classifying biotope types and implementing recreational value assessment in the level of area. First of all, as a result of classification of biotope types in research site, total 11 biotope type groups including stream biotope and its subordinate 51 biotope types. Also, as a result of the first value assessment of classified biotopes, there are total 5 types such as vegetation-full natural river, fallow ground in I grade. In addition, it is analyzed that grade II have 18 types, III are 10, IV are 12, the least valuable V are 6. Especially, grassland biotope(GD) was classified into grade II, which is one grade raised, because it is analyzed that it has high value in terms of normal access and availability although it was assessed as grade ill in terms of natural experience quality. Lastly, as a result of the second assessment, special areas for natural experience and recreation(1a, 1b) are 15, areas for natural experience and recreation(2a, 2b, 2c) are 47. Especially, the 52th drawing mark space was grade II in the first assessment but its value grade was upgraded because of its high value in terms of use evidence, size of the area, accessibility with housing area, history and cultural character and so on.

This study quantified carbon uptake and emissions in urban landscape, and the role of urban greenspace in atmospheric carbon reduction for several cities of Chuncheon and Kangleung in Kangwon province. Mean carbon storage by trees and shrubs was 26.0 t (mertric tons)/ha in Chuncheon and 46.7 t/ha in Kangleung for natural lands, and ranged from 4.7 to 6.3 t/ha for urban lands (all land use types except natural and agricultural lands) in both cities. Mean annual carbon uptake by trees and shrubs ranged from 1.60 to 1.71 t/ha/yr for natural lands, and from 0.56 to 0.71 t/ha/yr for urban lands. There was no significant difference (95% confidence level) between the two cities in the carbon storage and annual carbon uptake per ha, except the carbon storage for natural lands. Organic carbon storage in soils (to a depth of 60 cm) of Chuncheon average 24.8 t/ha for urban lands and 31.6 t/ha for natural lands, 1.3 times greater than for urban lands. Annual carbon accumulation in soils was 1.3 t/hr/yr for natural lands of the study cities. Annual per capita carbon emissions from fossil fuel consumption were 1.3 t/yr in Chunceon and 1.8 t/yr in Kangleung. The principal carbon release in urban landscapes was from transport and industry. Total carbon storage by urban greenspace (trees, shrubs, and soils) equaled 66% of total carbon emissions in Chuncheon and 101% in Kangleung. Carbon uptake by urban greenspace annually offset total carbon emissions by approximately 4% in the study cities. Thus, urban greenspace played a partial important role in reducing atmospheric $CO_2$ concentrations. To increase $CO_2$ uptake and storage by urban greenspace, suggested are conservation of natural lands, minimization of hard surfaces and more plantings, selection of tree species with high growth rate, and proper management for longer healthy tree growth.

The use of meteorological information is essential in the industrial society. More specialized weather services are required to perform better industrial activities including forestry. A topoclimatological technique, in this study, which makes use of empirical relationships between the topography and the weather in Cheju Island was applied to produce reasonable estimates of monthly air temperatures over remote land area where routine observations are rare. Altitude values of the 250m grid points were first read from a 1 : 25000 topographic map. The mean altitude and other valuable topographical variables were then determined for each $1km^2$ land area. Daily minimum, maximum and mean air temperature data were collected from 19 points in Cheju Island from June 1987 to September 1988. The data were analyzed and grouped into 36 sets by type of air temperature and by month. Each of data set was regressed to the topographical variables to delineate empirical relationships between the local air temperature and the site topography. The total of 36 regression equations were finally selected and the equations were used to calculate the monthly air temperature for each $1km^2$ land area. The outputs were presented in a fine-mesh grid map with a 6-level contour capability.

Purpose: Housing is the most essential element for well-being in a society. The government would continuously supply decent housings to make a better living condition for people. As various housing policies have been implemented into practice, the effectiveness of policies need to be assessed and improved to rearrange the financial resources. The indicators, such as quality of life, housing supply amount and etc, could be used to estimate housing policy to provide a guidance for a new policy direction. Though various indicators are utilized to assess the policy effect, most of the items are depend upon a relativeness in aspect to assessment goal, items, time and its weighting. Therefore, it needs an absolute indicator to compare the policy effectiveness regardless of time elapse or items. In this paper, it developed the housing welfare indicator to assess the level of living condition, utilizing the Gini coefficient which is used for explanation on income distribution. Method: To suggest an inequity indicator, this paper used Gini coefficient to explain the level of living condition which is used on economics to provide the level of income distribution. Data are collected through the Korea Housing Survey by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport between 2006 and 2014. Indicators of living condition focused on the development of the estimation model using the frequency of room use. Result: Gini coefficient between 2004 and 2014 is about 1.5 score except in year 2013, and the trend of score has been decreased slowly which means the inequality gradually improved. In this result, it implies the living condition and distribution level would be improved than before.

BACKGROUND: The reclaimed lands for agricultural use managed by the Korean government is consisted of 17,145 hectares of lands under construction and 13,384 hectares of completed lands. In order to utilize these reclaimed lands as competitive agricultural complexes, the government is preparing to develop comprehensive development plans for multiple purposes. For rational land-use planning and soil management, information of the soil chemical properties is necessary. METHODS AND RESULTS: From 2013 to 2016, soil samples were collected from 85 representative sampling sites of the reclaimed lands and analyzed for soil chemical properties including electric conductivity (EC), pH, soil organic matter (SOM), and nutrients. The annual mean soil EC ranged from 5.1 to 8.3 dS m^-1 and have continued to decrease over the years (estimation equation with EC as dependent and year as independent variable was y =0.0736x² - 1.4985x + 9.8305, R² = 0.9753). The pH ranged from 7.3 to 7.6, which was higher than the optimum range (5.5~7.0) for agricultural soils. Soil organic matter (8 to 11 g kg^-1) was lower level than the optimum range (20~30 kg^-1). Available silicate (Av.SiO₂) ranged from 169 to 229 mg kg^-1, which was close to the minimum content (≥157 mg kg^-1) for rice paddy field. Available phosphate (Av.P₂O₅) content (24~39 mg kg^-1) was lower than the optimum range (80~120 mg kg^-1) for rice paddy field. CONCLUSION: For efficient agricultural use of reclaimed lands under government management, our results suggest that the application of organic matter and supplying deficient nutrients as well as desalinization is required.
