  • Shipyard design and equipments layout problem, which are directly linked with the productivity of ship production, is an important issue serving as reference data of production plan for later massive production of ships. So far in many cases, design of a shipyard has been relying on the experienced engineers in shipbuilding, resulting in sporadic and poorly organized processes. And thus, economic losses as well as trials and errors in that accord have been pointed out as inevitable problems. This paper extracts a checklist of major elements to fine tune the shipbuilding yard designing process and the input/output data based on the simulation based shipbuilding yard layout designing framework and methodology proposed in existing researches, and executed initial architecture to develop software that integrates all the relevant processes and designing tools. In this course, both user request and design data by the steps are arranged and organized in the proposed layout design template form. In addition, simulation is done based on the parent shipbuilding process planning and scheduling data of the ship product, shipbuilding process and work stage facilities that constitute shipbuilding yard, and design items are verified and optimized with the layout and equipment list showing optimal process planning and scheduling effects. All the contents of this paper are based on simulation based shipbuilding yard layout designing methodology, and initial architecture processes are based on object oriented development methodology and system engineering methods.

  • The most commonly used method for space management in the industry is development of site plans. These plans outline how to manage material deliveries, staging areas, and crane locations for construction sites in suburban area but not in congested urban areas. This study focuses on how to efficiently manage space for construction facilities on high-rise buildings in congested urban areas where normally space for facilities around a building footprint is not available. The limitations of available horizontal space create a need to explore vertical expansion of facilities. This raises new aspects of vertical facility handling and flow that need to be considered in the facility design problem. The construction facilities layout plan method provides layout planners with a valuable technique to develop efficient sequences of work that optimally defines how to efficiently utilize the construction facilities and minimize the travel of specific facilities effort on multiple-floor buildings. A genetic algorithm-based heuristic will be presented for generating block layouts for multiple-floor la)rout problems.

  • This study was started with its consideration as materials showing original shapes of temple buildings in the late period of Chosun the photographs and drawings which contained in $\ulcorner$A Survey Report of Korean Architecture$\lrcorner$ made by Sekino Tadashi through his survey for 62 days(July 5${sim}$Sep. 4, 1902). Results of the study can be summarized as follows. During the period of Japanese occupation, Beomesa temple experienced frequent changes in building layout including the transfer and removal of buildings. Such frequent change began in spring, 1936 when a Buddhist monk of Beomeosa temple, Cha Woon Ho moved Gwaneumjeon, originally located to the light of the main building, to the left of the building and, on its original site, built up a 7-storied sarira tower. Though it is difficult to say that the study provides everything about Beomeosa temple, the researcher expects that the study would be the very basis on which changes in the building layout of the temple since the late period of Chosun can be researched. In conclusion, the researcher hopes that the above mentioned restoration plan would help originally restore or enlarge temples, further transmitting such restored or enlarged establishments as valuable cultural remains from generation to generation. In this respect, the researcher expects such restoration plan to be made in continuous and more detailed ways.

  • The purpose of this paper is to reconstruct the original floor plan and wall design of Seokbulsa Grotto in Kyungju; commonly known as 'Seokguram'. The paper presents an array of dimensional studies of the existing Seokguram to examine its architectural form, and infers the original floor plan and wall design of Seokbulsa Grotto. Seokbulsa Grotto is designed as a system of 'coherent modules' and was constructed using the dry stone method, which interlocks large stone modules into a whole that becomes the load-bearing structure itself. The design principles governing Seokbulsa Grotto are the spatial axis of symmetry, modular coordination, and the layout grid of a quarter Tang-Ruler(TR: 唐尺). Dimensional studies were conducted with these governing principles in mind and concludes the following about the original floor plan design. In the main chamber, Ansang-stone's radius is 12 TR, and Flagstone's radius is 12¼ TR. In the front chamber, the width between the two Ansang-stones facing each other is 22 TR and the longitudinal space depth is 12 TR, while the width between the two Flagstones facing each other is 22½ TR and Flagstone's depth is 12 TR. In the passageway, the width between the two Ansang-stones facing each other is 11½ TR and longitudinal space depth is 9 TR, while the width between the two Flagstones facing each other is 12 TR and Flagstone's depth is 7¾ TR. The distance from the center to the entrance line of the main chamber is 10½ TR. Therefore, the total longitudinal length of the Grotto is 43½ TR at the level of the Ansang-stones, and 44 TR at the level of the Flagstones.

  • Along with the development of creative design ideas, how to effectively present design concepts is also an important consideration on housing plan process. This could consequently make it possible to automate presentations. In spite of such needs of presentations any significant efforts for the systematic design presentation have not been made yet. The research goals established in order to solve these problems are to develop structures of presentation and analyze the cases of it. This paper explains structures of housing plan presentations in two ways: the compositional elements of panel presentations and the relationships among the elements. The elements include a project title, a synopsis, design concepts, building layouts, floor plan1 and 2, longitudinal and latitudinal elevations, sections, projection and perspective views, and model photographs. Among various relationships among panel compositional elements this study uses relationships based on the Gestalt theory, the balance theory by Rudolf Arnheim and the optical array theory by Gibson. The relationships investigated on the basis of the visual perception theories include the relationships between compositional elements and background space, visual weight balance, horizontal and vertical balances, grouping, and visual layout patterns.

  • A thesis presented on the study of visitors circulation character, and components in an exhibition space in museums. A behavior ethogram is an investigational tool of tracing examination of visitors. An exhibition layout and behavior characters of exhibition viewing in the configuration of exhibition space are planned by using the method of the behavior ethogram. As time goes by an expansion of a museums concept and changing roles are more extroversive and constructive than the past. It will reflect the phases of the times and show several different aspects. The reflection of the changing circumstance will have to examine an each relationship between exhibition data, exhibition spaces and visitors In the beginning of a plan of the museum. However, the study of a unique behavior pattern and character which are made by moving visitors themselves are quietly not enough studied. The exhibition layout which is considerably examined by the viewing behavior of visitors in act response and a following circulation of viewing have a lack of precise directions and examples. In short, this study ultimately represents to grasp the meaning of the behavior characters of viewing. Furthermore, the basic directions in the museums plan are carefully considered by the reflection of exhibition circulation.

  • Due to an inability to accommodate for the rapidly increasing number of printed materials, Korean academic libraries are facing serious space shortage problems. Very few academic institutions have the funds to expand existing libraries or construct new facilities in order to accommodate the influx of printed materials. Despite not having the luxury to create new space, many establishments continue to implement the open access system. Seeing that such a system is only user friendly when used in a spacious facility, the maintenance of the open access system is unreasonable. Only few libraries consider the space efficient closed access system which helps to resolve storage space shortage. In the current state of the problem, improving the efficiency to which books are stored in existing storage areas within a library facility is the only appropriate solution. Enacting methods to improve physical space utilization within a fixed volume library facility will undoubtedly diminish the space shortage issue at hand. In this article, several space efficiency improvement approaches are discussed. Methods of book storage plan re-layout (floor, plan, ceiling, height, bookshelf design), book arrangement possibilities, and the reduction of the physical volume of reserved materials are each examined.
