  • Fuel management simulation have been performed for CANFLEX-0.9% RU fuel in the CANDU 6 reactor. In this study, the bi-directional 4-bundle shift fuelling scheme was assumed The lattice cell and time-average calculation were carried out. The refuelling simulation calculations were performed for 600 full power days. Time-averaged results show good axial power profile with the CANFLEX-RU fuel. During the simulation period, the maximum channel and bundle power were maintained below the licensing limit of CANDU 6 reactor.

  • The analyses on self-heating effect in 7 nm node non-rectangular Bulk FinFET device were performed using 3D device simulation with consideration to contact via and pad. From self-heating effect simulation, the position where the maximum lattice temperature occurs in Bulk FinFET device was investigated. Through the comparison of thermal resistance at each node, main heat transfer path in Bulk FinFET device can be determined. Self-heating effect with device parameter and operation temperature was also analyzed and compared. In addition, the impact of interconnects which are connected between the device on self-heating effect was investigated.

  • Characteristics of the photonic bandgaps (PBGs) in two-dimensional photonic crystals (2D PCs) with a hexagonal lattice have theoretically studied using a finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation. In this research, we propose a concept of optical coverage ratio (OCR) as a new structural parameter to determine the PBGs for E-polarized light. The OCR is an optically compensated filling factor. It is possible to normalize the PBGs of 2D PCs by introducing the OCR.

  • This study considers a linear connected-(r,s)-out-of-(m,n):F lattice system whose components are ordered like the elements of a linear (m,n )-matrix. We assume that all components are in the state 1 (operating) or 0 (failed) and identical and s-independent. The system fails whenever at least one connected (r,s)-submatrix of failed components occurs. The purpose of this paper is to present an optimization scheme that aims at minimizing the expected cost per unit time. To find the optimal threshold of maintenance intervention, we use a genetic algorithm for the cost optimization procedure. The expected cost per unit time is obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The sensitivity analysis to the different cost parameters has also been made.

  • In order to send the information certainly via the network against the packet lost caused by hardware troubles or limitation of packet transferring, we must construct reliable network infrastructure. However, it is difficult to construct comfortable network early if we construct rely on the prediction or the experience through a lot of troubles. In this paper, we propose the method to construct reliable network infrastructure based on the computer network simulation. This simulation is based on the percolation model. Percolation model is known as the model that represents connections. We gave some simulations for the various network topologies: the square lattice network, the cubic lattice network, and the full connection type network.

  • In this study, simulation of weak shock waves are peformed by a two-dimensional thermal fluid or compressible fluid model of the lattice Boltzmann method. The shock wave represents an abrupt change in fluids properties, in which finite variations in pressure, internal energies, and density occur over the shock thickness. The characteristics of the proposed model with a simple distribution function is verified by calculation of the sound speeds, and the shock tube problem. The reflection of a weak shock wave by wedge propagating in a channel is performed. The results agree well with those by finite difference method or by experiment. In the simulation of unsteady shock wave diffraction around a sharp corner, we show a flow field of vortical structure near the comer.

  • A computer program has been developed to analyze easily the Kikuchi pattern which is useful in obtaining the crystallographic data of materials. This program can simulate the Kikuchi patterns for 14 Bravais lattice by using the matrix algebra. Convenient menu system was also added to enhance the applications of the program. That is, by varying the tilting angle, camera length (RADIUS) and $S_{max}$ in the menu, various Kikuchi patterns can be obtained. The simulated patterns, then, can be compared with the experimentally-obtained Kikuchi pattern to examine validity of simulation.

  • In this paper, an adaptive IIR (infinite impulse response) notch filter of lattice type is constructed and its adaptation algorithm is proposed for the detection and retrieval of a sine wave signal embedded in noise. A modified method which adapts only one coefficient of the filter is also suggested. All these methods adapt the coefficients while keepting the poles of the filter inside the unit circle on z-plane, and thus they satisfy the condition on the stability of the IIR filter after it has converged. To investigate the convergence characteristics of these methods such as convergence speed and output S/N ratio, intensive computer simulation has been performed by varying the frequency of the sine wave and the input S/N ratio. And the results of the simulation have been compared to those of Rao and Kung's which shows relatively fast convergence speed. The methods proposed here, especially the second one. shows faster convergence speed and higher output S/N ratio than the Rao and Kung's.

  • In the present study, deposition of discrete and small particles, which diameter is less than $1{\mu}m$, on a filter element was simulated by stochastic method. Trajectory of each particle was numerically solved by Langevin equation and Brownian random motion was treated by Brownian dynamics. Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was used to solve flow field around the filter collector and deposit layer. Interaction between flow field and deposit layer was obtained from a converged solution from an inner-loop calculation. Simulation method is properly validated and collection efficiency due to different filtration parameters are examined and discussed. Morphology of deposit layer and its evolution was visualized in terms of the particle size. The particle loaded effect on collection efficiency was also discussed.

  • The effect of misfit on the indentation behaviour of silver coated copper multilayer was studied by molecular dynamics simulation. It was found that the misfit bands on interface formed by the mismatch of lattice structure between copper and silver in slip direction [110] and the dislocation band width depended on the mismatched lattice constants of materials. More dislocations were created and glided by indentation, which created a "four-wing flower" structure consisting of pile. up of dislocation at the interface. The size of "flower" depended on the thickness of silver layer. The critical thickness for "flower" was approximately 4nm above which the "flower" disappeared. As the result, deformation mechanisms such as dislocation pile-up, dislocation cross-slip and movement of misfit dislocation were revealed. Only silver atoms in the dislocation pile-up were involved in the creation of the "flower" while the dislocations in copper were glided in slip direction on interface.
