  • In case a set of railway vehicles moves on a rail track, the end of each car in which a coupler is installed produces a complex movement depending on the displacement of a rail track, bogie and a coupler. Especially, the movement of an end of cars is hugely affected by a radius of gyration and gradient of a rail track, vertical and lateral movement of bogie, and compression of coupler. In this thesis, I present a simulation technic for easy input and change of displacement of a rail track, bogie and a coupler as well as visualization of movement of the end of cars on a rail track using CATIA V5, CAD software.

  • This paper describes the possibility of analyzing gait pattern from the variation of the lower leg electrical impedance. This impedance is measured by the four-electrode method. Two current electrodes are applied to the thigh, knee, and foot, and two potential electrodes are applied to the lateral, medial, and posterior position of lower leg. The correlation coefficients of the joint angle and the impedance change from human leg movement was obtained using electrogoniometer and 4ch impedance measurement system developed in this study. We found the optimal electrode position for ankle, knee and hipjoint movements based on high correlation coefficient, least interference, and maximum magnitude of impedance change. The correlation coefficients of the ankle, knee, and the hip movements -0.87, 0.957 and 0.80. respectively. From such features of the lower leg impedance, it has been made clear that different movement patterns exhibit different impedance patterns and impedance level. This system showed possibility that lower leg movement could be easily measured by impedance measurement system with a few skin-electrodes.

  • Maximal active movements of the mandible in the vertical and the horizontal plane were measured in 106 mem and 78 women. ranging from 20 to 29 years old, with a method devised by agerberg. The studied persons who were dental students of the School of Dentistry Seoul National University (SNU), nurses and dental auxiliaries of the SNU Hospital, had no pain or severe symptoms of dysfunction of the masticatory system. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The mean values for maximal opening and protrusion differed significantly between men and women, 55.9 mm and 49.7 mm, 9.3 mm and 7.4 mm respectively. 2. The means found for maximal lateral movement to the right and to the left were practically the same, 8.5 - 9 mm and did not differ with sex. 3. The lower limit of the normal range of horizontal movements may be regarded as 4 mm for men and 3 mm for women and maximal opening as 44 mm for men and 39 mm for women. 4. The maximal mandibular movement ranges of 20-year old person with 95 % probability were calculated and presented grphically.

  • The author conducted an experiment of recording side shift of the lateral mandibular movement and analyzing the timing of the side shift on the twenty-two non-functioning side condyles. As a result, clinically useful informations were obtained. The findings were as follows: 1. On all the non-functioning side condyle path, during the first four millimeters of forward movement, the change in the rate of the mandibular side shift was observed. 2. Band E types of the mandibular side shift ,which have shown a distinct rate of immediate side shift were fifteen condyles, and C type of the mandibular side shift which has shown the greatest rate of the side shift occurs early in the first four millimeters of forward movement was seven condyles. 3. A and D types which have shown generally progressive and distributed nature were not observed.

  • The experiment is designed to create some useful data on the dressed shapes that contribute to simulating the adaptability of clothes. We studied the dressed shapes of blouse with above-elbow sleeves and sleeveless according to five types of arm movement (basic posture, reach forward 45, 90, and reach lateral 45, 90) in the stand-posture. Experiments were conducted to understand the dressed shape through 3-D measurement Vivid 910 and to investigate the width, depth, area distribution and gap of the shape of blouses on the section map with a software program for 3-D shape analysis, Rapid Form 2004. The Data were analyzed by factor analysis. The results of this study are as follows: The ratio of depth per width in the stand-posture was lower than other arm movements and the reach lateral was higher than the reach forward. The gap of the upper body was a briefed 4 factor; front, front-side, back, and back-side. It was higher than the sleeveless with a change of the gap in the dressed blouse with above-elbow sleeves by arm movements per stand-posture. The divisional gap shows the adaptability of clothes according to the types of blouse and arm movements in the change of the ratio.

  • This paper investigates the development of failure surfaces induced by an embankment on soft marine clay deposits and the characteristics of such surfaces through numerical simulations and its comparative study with monitoring results. It is well known that the factor of safety of embankment slopes is closely related to the vertical loading, including the height of the embankment. That is, an increase in the embankment height reduces the factor of safety. However, few studies have examined the relationship between the lateral movement of soft soil beneath the embankment and the factor of safety. In addition, no study has investigated the distribution of the pore pressure coefficient B value along the failure surface. This paper conducts a continuum analysis using finite difference methods to characterize the development of failure surfaces during embankment construction on soft marine clay deposits. The results of the continuum analysis for failure surfaces, stress, displacement, and the factor of safety can be used for the management of embankment construction. In failure mechanism, it has been validated that a large shear displacement causes change of stress and pore pressure along the failure surface. In addition, the pore pressure coefficient B value decreases along the failure surface as the embankment height increases. This means that the rate of change in stress is higher than that in pore pressure.

  • Ten subjects who were going to wear conventional complete dentures were selected for this study. Theree subjects were women and seven were men. The average age was 63.1 years(range : 44 to 76 years). With the Height tracer (extraoral tracing device) in place the subject was instructed to go through the entire range of mandibular movements. The extreme lateral pathway of the incisor point, the so-called Gothic arch, was thereby inscribed by the stylus on the tracing plate. The mandibular movements in this study were peformed voluntarily by the subject(self guided technique) and guided by the dentist(chin-point technique and bimanual technique). The Gothic arch tracings were analysed and the Gothic arch angles and eccentric movement distances were measured. The results were as follows : 1. The apex position of the Gothic arch tracings of mandibular movements in edentulous patients varied both anterioposteriorly and mediolaterally. 2. The Gothic arch tracing had some lateral deviation during protrusion. 3. The average Gothic arch tracing angle was $136.7{\pm}12.0^{\circ}$ by subjects self guided technique, $135.7{\pm}5.9^{\circ}$ by chin-point technique, $136.6{\pm}6.5^{\circ}$ by bimanual technique. But there were no statistical differences in the reliability among the three techniques. 4. The average mandibular eccentric movements were irregular and the mandibular eccentric movement distances varied with a wide range.

  • The movement of in-situ walls has become very important as construction in large cities moves upward, instead of outward. Tall structures typically have deep excavations not on1y to provide extra space for parking, but also to reduce the potential settlement of the building. These large excavations require a robust bracing system to resist the lateral earth pressures as the depth increases. Methods to predict deflections of the retaining systems are of utmost importance because wall movements allow potentia1 settlement of adjacent structures. Case studies will be analyzed and measured waI1 def1ections will be compared with predictions from empirica1ly derived charts.
