Factors Affecting Job Satisfaction, Emotional Labor and Health Promotion Behavior of Emergency Room Nurses (응급실 간호사의 감정노동, 건강증진행위 및 직무만족도 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was attempted to identify the emotional labor, health promotion behavior, and job satisfaction of emergency room nurses in general hospitals. Basic data were provided on the development of interventions to reduce negative consequences of emotional labor, improve nurse health and improve job satisfaction, and provide effective management of nursing staff. Methods: The study conducted a survey on the use of the survey program of D, N and J, and the research objective was understood by more than 6 months of experience at 8 general hospitals. Results: Nurses' emotional labor and health promotion have been shown to have significant effects on job satisfaction. Factors affecting job satisfaction included health promotion behaviors, emotional labor, and gender, among which emotional labor was affected significantly by a wealth, and health promotion was a significant cause of justice. Conclusion: Job satisfaction will increase if nurses lower their emotional labor and raise the level of practice for health promotion. Therefore, a mediation program is needed to reduce the level of emotional labor of nurses, which can provide an opportunity for them to practice health promotion activities and improve the job satisfaction of nurses.

  • Objectives: This study aims to understand the effects of job stress and emotional labor on perceptive health status of dental hygienist's. And provide basic data by for establishing the plan for the effective management of job stress and emotional labor and the promotion of health. Methods: Self-evaluation questionnaires were surveyed for 441 dental hygienist's who agreed to participate in the survey, using questionnaires used in the preceding study were modified and complemented. We analyzed the data with frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, chi-square test와 ANOVA, Spearman correlation coefficient by using IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). The significance level for significance was set at 0.05. Results: health status were job stress, emotional labor significant negative correlation. The factors having significant effects on health problem were physical health status, the job culture of job stress, lack of job autonomy, organizational instability, and workplace culture. In addition, social health status was affected by emotional expressionism, relationship conflict, organizational instability, organizational system, and workplace culture. Conclusion: Recognizing the importance of the management of job stress and emotional labor in the working environment to dental clinic and hospital managers and managerial dental hygienists, a dental hygienist health promotion intervention program is needed to mitigate and cope with job stress and emotional labor.

The Influence of Emotional Labor and Mental Health on Care Performance of Certified Caregivers for Elders with Dementia (치매노인을 돌보는 요양보호사의 감정노동, 정신건강이 돌봄이행에 미치는 영향)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to identify the degree of emotional labor, mental health care, care performance of certified caregivers for elder with dementia, and the factors that affect care performance. Methods: In order to collect data, structured questionnaire was used for 197 caregivers who worked at 3 dementia specialized facilities located in D city. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 20.0. Results: Care performance had negative relationship with emotional labor(r=-.320, p<.000) and mental health(r=-.240, p<=001). Emotional labor had positive relationship with mental health(r=.208, p=.003) And the prediction factors influencing care performance were health status(${\beta}=.363$, p<.001), emotional labor(${\beta}=-.242$, p<.001), mental health(${\beta}=-.223$, p=.001). The total variance was 38.9% by predictors(F=25.978, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, in order to improve the care performance mental health program should be provided and good health management is needed to improve health status. And also it is necessary to develop and apply new strategies to reduce emotional labor of the dementia facility caregivers.

The effects of emotional labor and stress on job satisfaction in oral health professional (치과 의료기관 종사자의 감정노동과 직무스트레스가 직무만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study was to investigate the level of emotional labor and stress on job satisfaction and the significant factors influencing job satisfaction in oral health professional. Methods : Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 297 oral health professional(mean age=$29.95{\pm}8.10$). Participants in the study were recruited when they attended the dental health form in Gwangju. Emotional labor was classified into two factors: external, inner. Stress consisted of four factors: sleep disorder&anxiety, self-confidence, health&vital, social role work. job satisfaction included growth development, stability chase. The data was analysed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression. Results : The mean score of emotional labor and score was 3.13 out of a maximum 7 points. job satisfaction was negatively correlated with emotional labor and stress. job satisfaction explained 32.0%. Conclusions : Based on the findings, The emotional labor and stress was correlated with job satisfaction. These results suggest that further development should be continued to develop the effective emotional labor and stress to improve the job satisfaction of oral healthcare professional.

Perceived Emotional Labor of Clinical Nurse from the Persons Concerned (임상간호사가 지각하는 업무 관련자와의 감정노동)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to understand the degree of clinical nurses' emotional labor that they perceive in the relationships with people related to their work. Methods: This study was a descriptive research, and its subjects were 167 nurses in five university hospitals located in B and Y city. The degree of emotional labor was measured with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Data were collected from April to May in 2015, and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ and Games-Howell examination. Results: The score of the emotional labor of health care providers and visitors were higher than non-health care providers. Among health care providers, doctors had the highest emotional scores, and fellow nurse and nurses other departments were followed after that. Among visitors in hospital, patients and their family had the higher emotional labor scores than care givers. There was statistically significant difference in the emotional labor, according to the subjects' educational level, age, wages, job position, and working departments. Conclusion: Clinical nurses perceived emotional labor not only from the interaction with patients, but also from the interaction with the various other persons concerned such as health care providers, non-health care providers and visitors.

Effects of Emotional Labor and Perceived Organizational Support on the Job Attitude of Public Health Workers (보건소 공무원들의 감정노동과 조직지원인식이 직무태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: This study was designed to determine the relationship among emotional labor, perceived organizational support, and job attitude in public health centers. Results: First, emotional dissonance had no effect on perceived organizational support. However, emotional endeavor had a positive effect on perceived organizational support. Second, perceived organizational support had a significant effect on job attitude. Third, emotional labor had no effect on job satisfaction, but emotional labor had a positive effect on job commitment. Fourth, perceived organizational support had a full mediating effect on the relationship between emotional labor and job attitude. The implications of this study are as follows. Conclusions: Higher emotional labor leads to lower job satisfaction and job commitment in public officials, thereby affecting job attitude. Accordingly, various systematic methods, such as flexible working hours and personnel policy, need to be implemented to alleviate the negative effects of emotional labor.

Relationships among Emotional Labor, Self Efficacy, and Burnout of Employees in Public Health Centers (보건소 보건의료직 종사자들의 감정노동, 자기효능감 및 소진의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive, cross-sectional study was to examine relationships among emotional labor, self-efficacy, and burnout of employees in public health centers. Factors that influence burnout of workers were also assessed. Methods: One hundred sixty six workers in public health centers completed a pack of self-report questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA along with $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Employees in public health centers seemed to experience emotional labor to some extent. There were statistically significant differences in burnout depending on the age of workers. Employees' burnout had a positive relationship with emotional labor and a negative relationship with self-efficacy. Factors influencing burnout of employees in public health centers were emotional dissonance, surveillance & monitoring of organization, age, and self-efficacy. Conclusion: Considering the findings from this study, health care providers need to develop effective interventions which increase the level of self-efficacy and decrease certain types of emotional labor for employees in public health centers and to help them effectively manage burnout.

Factors Affecting Nurse's Health Promoting Behavior: Focusing on Self-efficacy and Emotional Labor (간호사의 건강증진행위에 영향을 주는 요인: 자기효능, 감정노동을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This study examined self-efficacy, emotional labor, and health promoting behaviors. It also investigated factors affecting health promoting behaviors of nurses working for tertiary and general hospital. Methods: Between June and July 2013, a convenience sample of 233 subjects was collected from 2 tertiary hospitals and 4 general hospitals. The data analysis was done with ANOVA, t-test and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Emotional labor of the subjects was slightly lower than that of other nurses and the average level of health promoting behaviors was lower than the median. Health promoting behaviors were differentiated by education, hospital type, and monthly income. Self-efficacy showed positive correlation with HPLP-II, but emotional labor showed negative correlation with self-efficacy and HPLP-II. The most significant factor affecting health promoting behaviors was self regulation(16.3%). The combination of self regulation, attentiveness to required display rules, BSN, preference to task difficulty, and monthly income(${\geq}300$) accounted for 25.4% of health promoting behavior. Attentiveness to required display rules was a negative factor of HPLP-II. Conclusion: When developing health promotion programs for nurses, self-efficacy should be considered and further research is needed to identify mediating variables between emotional labor and health promoting behaviors.

  • The safety & health can not be accomplished by only one side's effort of labor and management. To establish high level of occupational safety & health system, we have to recognize the extent of participance and need to study about how to keep the labor-management cooperation in good condition. The purpose of this paper is to make better suggestions such as how to improve the labor-management cooperation and how to establish the efficient occupational safety & health law through studying the labor-management cooperation system in the occupational safety & health.

Development of a Model for Emotional Labor Worker's Health (감정노동 종사자의 건강 모형)

  • Purpose: The Purpose of this study is to build up model of the emotional labor worker's health. Methods: Data was collected from 230 emotional labor workers from 2 department stores, 2 insurance companies, and 3 hotels located in Seoul and Kyung-gi areas, by the health managers and team leaders. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, pearson correlation, factor analysis and covariance structure analysis were used by SPSS window 10 version and AMOS 4.01. Results: The hypothetical model showed a goodness-of-fit to the empirical data(GFI=0.90, RMR=0.04, NFI= 0.79, PNFI=0.64). Eight out of fifteen paths of the model were accepted, while the other seven paths rejected. : From 'surface acting' to 'health', from 'social support' to 'surface acting', from 'social support' to 'health', from 'factors of organizational culture' to 'surface acting', from 'factors of organizational culture' to 'deep acting', from 'personal factor' to 'social support', from 'factors of organizational culture' to 'social support', from 'routine stress' to 'social support'. In conclusion, it has been confirmed that surface acting and social support were dominating factors to the health of emotional labor workers. Conclusion: In order to manage the health of emotional labor workers, it is imperative to develop a strategy to reduce their surface acting.
